King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Modest Mouse sold out the 2000 seat former porno theater/concert venue in my town. I was impressed, cause not even John Fogerty could do that that far in advance. Why is Bob Geldof giving himself a slot at Live 8? I like the Boomtown Rats, but he hasn't done anything anyone's listened to in 20+years. It just seems a bit egotistical.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Bob's putting the show together. I think he should play. Well, as long as he doesn't try to make himself look like, as Henry Rollins put it, "a martyr" like he did for Live Aid.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Yeah I thought of that and realized I was probably wrong. Hopefully, we can at least get a Boomtown Rats reunion out of this. Me and three other people would mark out.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 They reformed for the NME awards this year, and nobody cared. I have affection for 'I Don't Like Mondays' and some for 'Rat Trap' but he's supremely irritating and I wish he'd piss off.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 Oh shows how little I care about British award shows. I hate shows with multiple opening acts or any show with multiple opening acts unless its like a huge fesitval or something.Smaller shows I'm able to understand though for some reason but big shows, everybody's paying to see you anyways why have a bunch of opening acts. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 I saw metal band 3 Inches of Blood last night...pretty good old school heaviness. Id like to see them again, I think theyre going to be on the upcoming Chimaira tour.

CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2005 I think Violent J is an excellent rapper. Maybe his strength lays more in his creativity rather than his skillz (which he has ample amounts of). But he can keep up with anybody, that is... if ANYBODY dared to put him on their record. Then again I'll take creativity over talent anyday.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2005 Weezer replaced Spoon with another band I've never heard of called the Fray. I checked a video of theirs on their website, they described themselves as a mix between Coldplay and Lifehouse. I was hoping that description was wrong....it wasn't. Ah well, Weezer is going to kick ass. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It'd be a first.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2005 I can't stop listening to Hall and Oates' "Making My Dreams Come True". The damndest thing is that I have a hell of a time listening to the same song in a short period of time more than once. The buffer zone is usually about 3 hours. Two for Gimme Shelter. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2005 I was actually gonna go on a road trip out there. So many bands I want to see and only $30! Alas it is not to be.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2005 Thats too bad Kamala... I went last year for the first time(dont know what took so long, since Im from WI) and it was one of the funnest music weekends of my life so far...all for like 25$.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2005 So tonight I heard Social D's cover of the Clash's "Death or glory", and I must say that it's FUCKING AWESOME. Is there nothing Mike Ness can't do?
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2005 I was looking on Pollstar and I found a bill in Mexico that's UFO and 10,000 Maniacs. That's fuckin' weird. I wonder what kind of audience that's going to draw.
Guest bort Report post Posted June 24, 2005 I have been listing to Social Code alot recently, there kinda got a mellow vibe going, good up and comming band from Canada
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2005 Anyone here familiar with the Salvador Santana band? Hes the son of Carlos and I see he'll be playing at a cafe in Madison next Tuesday. I might check it out...
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Im watching the U2 dvd 'Rattle & Hum' again...if anybody here hasnt seen it, check it out. The live stuff is really good and the footage from Harlem is just incredible.
DARRYLXWF 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Does anyone know any sites where I can get sheet music from? I'm specifically after Springsteen's 'Thunder Road' for the piano.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 First time I heard Arcade Fire today, and all I can think of was Canada's version of Mars Volta, but shittier.
Guest Derek Bailey Report post Posted June 29, 2005 Wha'? I'm pretty sure that my liking of Arcade Fire and disliking of The Mars Volta plays no part in me thinking that similarities between them end shortly after "they both use guitars, bass and drums".
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 Im missing the similarity as well. Ive seen them both and they were about as similar as Faith No More and 3 Doors Down.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2005 Hm. I'm still not sure what to make of Arcade Fire. They're decent enough, but I don't really like that kind of music enough to accept "decent enough", it has to be great. On the other hand, Napoleon Dynamite is in the band. I don't really like Mars Volta.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2005 The only song I think is 'great' is 'In the Backseat' and those token fast drumbeats don't work for me at all. Maybe they'll get the balance right eventually. Definitely good, but I'm not that interested.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 So I picked up a copy of Teagan and Sara's So Jealous on Tuesday. I really enjoy the hell out of it. It's a fun, good poppy album.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Anyone else here notice the Iron & Wine song on an M&M's commercial? Its kinda depressing that he's gone the ad-revenue route, but hopefully it can expand his audience...Sam Beam is hugely talented and passionate.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 I heard Ozzy's "Over the Mountain" in a grocery store once, I swear to god. It was odd.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 I've heard Paranoid a few years ago at a grocery store on a Saturday morning. I might be the only one here to prefer GZA's Beneath the Surface than Liquid Swords
