I saw Jackyl and Sister Hazel this weekend at my local town's 'Riverfest'. Jackyl is a terrible imitation of AC/DC....Sister Hazel was a fun flashback to the 90s.

I might see G. Love and Special Sauce next Friday at the local casino ball room. I just read he plays two ninety minute sets with an intermission in between. Should be a bargain for just $19.50 for tickets.

I really like that new Mariah Carey tune. I haven't heard any of other songs off her latest, but if she sings that well throughout I'll probably pick it up.

I highly recommend that you buy that ticket.

Kamala - if you dont go and see two sets of G Love for 20 dollars I will harass on you on the internet forever. :)

If anyone lives within an hour or so of La Crosse, Wisconsin (I seem to remember there being a couple of you) there are ALOT of good and very cheap shows coming up at the Warehouse Club. http://www.warehouserocks.com

Also, Sunday Aug14 in Madison WI (outside the Alliant Coliseum) - Band Camp 2005 featuring Chevelle (which could suck), Nonpoint (really good live), Taproot (never seen em), Dope (also very good live), 30 Seconds to Mars (w/ Jared Leto), RA, Life of Agony and more. A mere 25$ for a pretty fun day. Mushroomhead and Crossbreed (at least its not crossfade) are possible additions as well, and a strong rumor of Velvet Revolver headlining. In any case, another 10 or so bands will be added.

Yeah, that plus I've missed seeing him live like literally about 4 or 5 times due to some circumstance or another. Damn friend's birthday.

I didn't realize Sister Hazel was still around. Their album with "All For You" actually wasn't too bad overall.

You know, despite living in southern California now, I haven't been to any good concerts. I've been to WrestleMania and E3, but no music events. I missed Warped Tour, even. I need money and a car... can't miss Green Day and the System of a Down/Mars Volta show.

If I can get a free ticket to System of a Down and Mars Volta, I might just go to kick the shit out of fifteen year olds with impunity.

I can't imagine System Of A Down being that great live...their albums are fine, but you can tell there's a lot of fine tuning to make their nonsense sound good...

Rilo Kiley are absolutely tremendous and I love them.

I was there.

More importantly, so was Dominik Diamond.

It was alright.

I'm going to see Weezer in four days, I've read a recent setlist and there's a good, bad and weird thing about them.

Good: El Scorcho is in the setlist, which they haven't played very often

Bad: 6 or 7 songs off the new album.

Weird: The other members of Weezer sing lead on a couple of songs.

The Allman Brothers are playing somewhat nearby my house and the opening act is...........Gavin DeGraw.

Greg Allman says he's sober but letting Gavin DeGraw open up really has me questioning Greggers sobereity.

The Allmans are still unbelievable live. You should go...

But I have no idea why they have Degraw opening.

So, I dug up my Wallflowers CD today, Bringing Down the Horse. It held up surprisingly well, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. It's a shame they were a 1.5-hit wonder (in addition to "One Headlight", I'm pretty sure "6th Avenue Heartache" got a bit of play time, but wasn't too popular).

It's really good, though.

I've seen them once and they were incredibly sloppy. Drummer was keyed up and playing too fast most of the time, the singer was sucking wind, and all the riffs and things were as unremarkable as the studio versions.

Besides the Talking heads when I was like 8-9 years old, I've never had a favourite band (Talking Heads love was largely based on the Stop Making Sense live album, fuck that's a good album.)

Until lately, where Sonic Youth is Firmly ensconced as my fave band of all time. A long discography with only a few misses, albums that get better the more you listen to them, a constantly evolving sound, and they're coming out with kickass stuff recently. Murray Street is a fucking incredible album. Their second best, IMHO.

That being said, 50 foot wave's (or L'~) Golden Ocean is my most listened to album right now.

And I determined that my favourite song would be a song I never, ever got tired of. For that, The Breeders' 'Cannonball' takes the cake. I've been listening to that song for the better part of my life now, and I still absolutely get a kick out of it.

Also, everything Dan the Automator touches turns to gold. Well, except Pretty Boys Modelling Club, which is prettyu good, but not anyhing special to me.

I wish the Clash and the Velvet Underground put out more stuff. Bikini Kill too.

Sleater Kinney's last two albums have been wonderful, I hope they keep it up, and I have YET to see them live, despite living in Seattle, dammit.

Queens of the Stone Age, Blonde Redhead, Social D and Violent Femmes are the best live acts I've seen live, in that order. Franz Ferdinand is probably 5th.

I saw Buddy Guy, aka one of the great surviving guitar gods live. It was awesome. Mike McCreedy (of Pearl Jam) came out and jammed with them on the last song. He was laying out an awesome blues rock solo and got a little bit stuck and Buddy Guy turned to him, smiled and said "Come on man, PLAY that motherfucker!" I was impressed by McCreedy, of course Buddy proceeded to completely blow him out of the water.

I love good compolation albums, especially those which neatly collect together all the EP material you never got around to owning. A big cheer then for Belle and Sebastian's Push Barman To Open Old Wounds release, alongside Richmond Fontaine's recent album the best thing i've bought this year and the best comp of it's type since Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's 20.

I've recently come to the conclusion that Gene Clark's White Light album, despite it's greater critical reputation, is certainly no better than his more unheralded but mightily fine Roadmaster album.

The best compilation I made was a compilation of songs from 80s movies. I've been meaning to make Vol.2 and songs from 90s movies, but I've never gotten around to it. One day....

Slipknot shows are always fun -

Plenty of weirdos and morons to be amused by, always some decent/good opening bands, a 'moshpit' with a few thousand people, and Slipknot puts on a very energetic near-two hour show.
