King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I'll be sure to pick it up this weekend. Anything else that's good?
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Album-wise? No. A reasonably stocked single disc comp should fill the necessities outside of that one record. Given what you're generally into, I'm surprised you didn't know much about the Zombies already.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 So how many of you guys have last.fm? http://www.last.fm/user/PujolJunkie/
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I had one for awhile, but was OCD-irritated how it didn't accurately reflect my computer-based listening habits. I deleted it.
Guest Gym Class Fallout Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Sometimes I listen to songs several times in a row to learn them, so I don't want that reflected in my listening profile. I just find the whole thing sort of weird. I don't need to broadcast my preferences. You can, though.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I mostly use it to see how my tastes compare with other peoples. Also to show everyone how hip and cool I am.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I used to hold out hope that it would get me into bands I didn't know about by comparing me against similar users, but it just kept recommending The Bravery.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I almost dread getting into new bands by now. I mean, I want to, because I enjoy music, but I can't keep up with it as it is. Like recently I needed some quick cash, and I was debating whether I could sell off any of my cds, and I was like "Well, I haven't listened to these in like a year and a half, I won't miss these." But then I decided to at least listen to them before I got rid of them, and they were great and I decided to keep them. Among them was the Wedding Present's Seamonsters. I just now realized how great that album is. Well, not now, but the last time I listened to it.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 Album-wise? No. A reasonably stocked single disc comp should fill the necessities outside of that one record. Given what you're generally into, I'm surprised you didn't know much about the Zombies already. I've known them about them and hears bits and pieces for years due to my dad being big into a lot of The British Invasion groups. I even saw them live this summer as a part of a big oldies concert and they were easily the best act of the night but I just really started listening to them in the past two or three weeks. The original lineup is reuniting next year and going on tour in The U.K., playing Odessey and Oracle in its entirety. I hope that tour finds its way to the U.S. They were great last time I saw them, even though it was just Argent, Colin Blunstone, and a bunch of ringers. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 I saw Dethklok tonight at the UC Berkeley campus. Badass fucking show. It was Brendon Small on rhythm guitar and vocals, Gene Hoglan on drums, and session musicians for lead and bass. They played in front of a backdrop showing videos of the songs. It was a free show, and the line was staggering. Thankfully I knew someone willing to go out there at like noon and wait, so I could just show up right before they opened the doors and go to the front of the line. The show was opened by And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, and hilariously, everyone absolutely shit on them (which they deserved) and also for all the promotional tie in stuff, and basically anything that wasn't Dethklok was shit on. I had wondered if Brendon could keep up the Nathan Explosion voice for a whole show, and the answer is no, there were periodic breaks, where they would show little vignettes of the band on the screen while the musicians drank water and took a leak or whatever. They closed with an extended version of "Thunderhorse", first encore was "Go Into the Water", second encore "Fan Song". I messed up my hip in the mosh pit. This is a very limited college tour, so if they are playing anywhere near you, I highly recommend going out of your way to see them. I'll definitely be paying to see them when they do the full tour (which I hope will feature a full stage show, and real supporting bands. I'm almost positive Cannibal Corpse will tour with them)
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 The other night I saw Between The Buried & Me with HORSE The Band, Animosity and some band called Giant. Giant was pretty good as an opener, Animosity put on a crazy show, HORSE got everybody into their music (since the concert was on Halloween, the members all dressed like Disney Divas: Drummer was Tinkerbell, Bassist was the witch from Snow White, Guitarist was Jasmine, Keyboardist was Belle and the singer was Ariel.) BTBAM put on an amazing show and would definatley see them again. They played "Colors" straight though (all 65 minutes of it with maybe 2 breaks) and for an encore they played "Selkies: The Endless Obssession" people were pissed that they didn't play Mordecai but fuck that, great show. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 Sadly no, there were no songs that weren't Dethklok proper. I was hoping for some Dr. Rockso, myself, and there was a strong demand for Snakes and Barrels. Maybe on the full tour.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2007 First comment that doesn't warrant a thread: I popped back in NCAA 06 football today. I forgot how awesome the sound track was. Best video game soundtrack ever. Second one: I got Some Loud Thunder from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Not nearly as good as the self-titled album.

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 I've shopped at Urban Outfitters... the most interesting thing I bought there was probably Tucker Max's book, though.

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Anyway, I think Urban Outfitters is great. I laugh my ass off everytime step foot in one. Which, now, I can do more often, as one finally opened down here the other week. Excellent! I've now been in four different Urban Outfitters in three different states. And I saw Kevin Bacon in one of them!
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 I'm not actually familiar with Urban Outfitters. And after a quick google search, wouldn't you know one just opened up in my area a week ago.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 From allmusic's review of John Cale's Slow Dazzle, regarding "Heartbreak Hotel": One of the most amazing cover versions ever, and arguably the best Elvis Presley revamp in existence, the slower pace, freaked-out Eno synth arrangement, and above all else Cale's chilling delivery make it a masterpiece. "One of the most amazing cover versions ever" and a "masterpiece"? Really? No. Cale's performance is nothing without the admittedly creepy chorus. The verses are a total snoozer. At least Ned Raggett adds the "arguably" to "the best Elvis Presley revamp in existence." My vote would go to Bryan Ferry's aggressive take of "The 'In' Crowd," found on his Another Time, Another Place album.
Guest Pizza Hut's Game Face Report post Posted November 5, 2007 The one on Slow Dazzle is a little irritating. The solo piano one on Fragments of a Rainy Season captures the chill better.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 I have a random question that's completely off the subject. Has anyone here listened to Nightwish's "End of an Era" live album? If so, does anyone know what Marco is screaming at the beginning of "Planet Hell"?

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 So, my girlfriend won tickets on the radio the other day to go see The Polyphonic Spree at the Verizon Wireless Center last nite. However, the show was cancelled due to low ticket sales. The radio station offered her tickets, instead, to see Zappa Plays Zappa on Monday nite. Obviously, we accepted. Has anybody seen the show? I'm quite excited, even as just a casual Zappa fan.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 I was in the deli earlier, and the clerk thought my Paris Hilton shirt was Bowie. And I never noticed it before, but y'know... I guess they do have a passing resemblance in some pictures.
