Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I still haven't heard any Joanna Newsom. On a slightly related note, I was hoping to go my whole life without hearing the Bravery, but, the other day, the stupid scenester douche running the counter at a local indie store decided to blast them over the p.a. Fucker.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I'm hoping this new Decemberists grows on me. It's kinda feh so far, minus a couple of standout songs.
Nighthawk Posted April 1, 2005 Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 Went to my favorite record store around here and they were selling... records! They've converted to LP only. I had to drive another few miles to get to the cd section, they've split it up. I got XTC's Go 2. I haven't heard great things, but it was really cheap, so we'll see. Also picked up Franks Wild Years but I've heard that before. Also, I browsed around in there for a long time, but everybody that was in there when I went in still wasn't done looking when I left. People round these parts thorough with their music shopping apparently.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 There's like two, maybe three good songs on Go 2, in spite of what PLAGIARISM! will tell you. Cool artwork, though.
Nighthawk Posted April 1, 2005 Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 I listened to it. It's ok to have on in the background, but that was a pretty weird album. It sounds like the kind of album I'd make if I got drunk and had to entertain a six year old's birthday party.
5_moves_of_doom Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I listened to it. It's ok to have on in the background, but that was a pretty weird album. It sounds like the kind of album I'd make if I got drunk and had to entertain a six year old's birthday party. Oddly that sounds like it would be quite brilliant to me.
Si82 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Is it just me or do LCD Soundsytem sound like Talking Heads?
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 They manage to sound like numerous bands on their album, but Talking Heads isn't one of them. So, you.
Dace59 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 After listening to the October Tide side project, I can say Katatonian (or at least the members) NEVER should have stopped doing Doom.
Anorak Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 The Walkabouts do a brilliant cover of 'On The Beach'. I prefer it to the original. The Handsome Family do a tremendous version of Kris Kristofferson's 'Sunday Morning Coming Down' as well.
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 There's like two, maybe three good songs on Go 2, in spite of what PLAGIARISM! will tell you. Cool artwork, though. It's the Party Album~!
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Drums and Wires does it better. Correct.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 See, the Futureheads sound like XTC circa Drums and Wires, but without Andy Partridge's feyness. Not that being fey is bad. Heavens no.
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 They're not that bad, in a kasabian and keane infested landscape. But they're bad enough to warrant me telling 'Hounds of Love' to fuck off.
The Czech Republic Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 What if on The Queen Is Dead, the weak link "Vicar In A Tutu" was replaced by "Bigmouth Strikes Again"'s B-sides, "Rubber Ring" and "Asleep"? It would have made the album even better.
Matt Young Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I'm pretty high right now, and the song "The World At Large" by Modest Mouse is quite entrancing.
Matt Young Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 (edited) Sorry, double post. Edited April 6, 2005 by Matt Young
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 What if the Smiths totally shitcanned the second half of Strangeways, Here We Come (save "Paint a Vulgar Picture")? That would've been an awesome EP.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 In other news, my female housemate has "Girlfriend In a Coma" as her cell's ringtone. My male housemate is using "London Calling," where I, after spending the last six months switching between "Radio Free Europe" and "Ignition (Remix)," am using "Lola."
godthedog Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 'murray street' is starting to surpass 'daydream nation' the more i listen to it.
Nighthawk Posted April 6, 2005 Author Report Posted April 6, 2005 I dislike musical ringtones. Mine is just "Beep beep beep"
5_moves_of_doom Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 So I heard the band Man Man for the first time today, and was told about them. I'm intrigued. Anyone have their album?
The Czech Republic Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 What if the Smiths totally shitcanned the second half of Strangeways, Here We Come (save "Paint a Vulgar Picture")? That would've been an awesome EP. You can't lose "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" though/
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 No, you can't, especially after you've heard Morrissey do it live. 'Paint a Vulgar Picture is the one track I would jettison. I HAVE A RINGTONE OF 'THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US' And thus will never need another. It. Is. Awesome.
The Czech Republic Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I'd trash "I Won't Share You" in a split second. Why did Morrissey think "Hand In Glove" was such a great song? It's kinda bland. Was this some joke I'm not in on?
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I like both songs, but neither are among my favourites.
Murmuring Beast Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I quite like 'Death At One's Elbow'....
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Yeah. I'm undecided as to whether Nick Cave's new Double album could've just been one. There's a couple of duff tracks, but most of the good ones are pretty long. Neither is near his best, but a return to form after a few years of mainly bland offerings.
The Czech Republic Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 "Idioteque" is 4500 times cooler played live than on Kid A.
