Best Cheesesteak

Recommended Posts

For me, it's a local place called Leo's. It's not very well known nationally, like a Geno's or Pat's, but it has been on the Food Network.

Anyways, if you're ever in the area, it's just off I-95, just outside Philly.

2nd best is probably a place called Philip's, a 24 hour place in the city.

Local places are almost always the best. We have some Pat's chains around here, and while their cheesesteaks are good, they're nothing to write home about, either.

The best place in the area unfortunately closed. It was called Kounelli's, and was this dinky little sub shop in a dinky little strip mall. Their small cheesesteak was equivalent to a large at most places, since they PACKED it full of meat. They had to give out forks with them, since there was that much meat. The best place in the immediate area now is a restaurant called The Musical Inn. However, about 45 minutes away is the legendary Captain Harvey's, and their subs are ridiculous.

What exit off of 95? I haven't heard of that place.

For me, I don't think you can go wrong with Pat's. Never liked Geno's at all.

Actually though, there is a Pat's in A.C. (which isn't connected to the original) which is awesome. They don't skimp on the whiz.

The 420 exit. Make a right onto Chester Pike and you'll run into after a few lights. It's in Folcroft.

I gotta hit up Tony Luke's before 3PW next weekend, all these years of going to the ECW Arena and I have still never hit up TL's.

Great, now I have a fucking craving for a cheesesteak. Of course, they are a North American thing. So there will be no sating of this particular appetite.

Favori's in New Orleans.

I have heard that the REAL cheesesteaks (i.s. in Philly) instead of having some melted sliced/shredded cheese on them, instead have a nacho-cheese like sauce slathered on. Is that true?

Yep. That's the BEST way. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

No way man, fuck cheese whiz.

American cheese all the way, especially if it is melted just right.

There's a place by my work called Uncle Sams that has an unreal cheesesteak. If your ever in Pittsburgh......go to Pitt's campus in Oakland, the cheesesteak is the shit.

I went to Philly this summer and I went to a place called Jim's, which according to several locals was "the best." And while it was ok, I honestly prefer the ones where I live, in Massachusetts. I don't know if I just went to a subpar place or what, but there was an hour wait at this place so who the hell knows.

I haven't been up to or around Philadelphia at all, and I have no reason to go there, so I don't think I'll be trying an authentic cheesesteak anytime soon, but the ones at Miami Subs (obviously a Florida chain only, from what I know) are the fucking best.

I gotta go with Pat's. Cheese wiz, without onions.

I like Pat's much, much better than Ginos. The cheesesteak place they have at Citizen's Bank Park is pretty good too, although the name escapes me at the moment. (Tony Romo's?)

I have been to Geno's or Tony Luke's and can't tell the difference. Both delciious cheesesteaks. They're so good that I always have to order two any time I'm in Philly, one for me and one for someone else. I remember the prices at Luke's weren't as good as Geno's, but the srevfice at Geno's seemed poor and I noticed one of the steak cooks picking his nose and then boggling my mind and proceding to itch down the back of his pants one time I went there. I would have went off on him but he wasn't making my steak so I didn't care. I might have gotten those two places mixed up though, I guess I will have to confirm next time I went there.

I know ALOT of people who have had both Philly and Boston cheesesteaks and say Boston is far better.

Theres this little joint near my house called Olly's that has phenominal steak N cheese.

The first time I ever tried a cheesesteak was at Tony Lukes and man they are delicious. I still haven't tried it with Cheese Whiz but everyone says it's that damn good. I just had another one this weekend before Cage of Death, brought back memories. Now that they opened one in NY, I plan on checking that one out just to see if it tastes the same.

Never been to Philly, but the best Philly cheese steak I've had was from a stand outside my Lowe's called Dominic's of New York. It's expensive ($4.79 for a mere 7-inch), but it's still worth it, IMO.

2nd fave was, believe it or not, a cafeteria one at my old college campus.

In general, the best ones are when they actually cook that damn thing right there, grill that bitch up nice and hot, and then pile it on the bread, dripping with juicy goodness. That pre-packed micro'd crap is fine with most lunch meat sandwiches, but it doesn't cut it with a cheese steak.
