Best Of The Intercontinental Championship DVD

Recommended Posts

Guest Stupuss

Few matches deliver power, prestige, and pure adrenalin like the battles for the Intercontinental Championship.

The title is as highly sought after now as it was when Pat Patterson, the first title-holder, earned the title in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1979.

In this collection, five classic IC matches from 1992-1993 burst to life, featuring incredible action from Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart,

Mr. Perfect, and more...

Shawn Michaels Vs Crush ( Sheffield, England – 11/04/1993

Bret Hart Vs Skinner ( Prime Time Wrestling – 24/08/1992)

Shawm Michaels vs Marty Jannetty ( Raw 19/07/1993)

Shawn Michaels vs Mr Perfect ( Summerslam 30/08/1993)

Shawn Michaels vs “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan ( Raw 03/05/1993)

Which match is the Michaels v Jannetty one from their 1993 series?

Yeah, that Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty match was voted by PWI as Match of the Year 1993. Bret Hart vs Skinner is likely good if it's anything like their Tuesday in Texas match. Michaels vs Duggan is garbage, I've seen it a thousand times. Michaels vs Hennig is highly dissapointing. I don't imagine Michaels vs Kona Crush would be anything worth seeing either.

this can't be serious right? where is Bret vs. Bulldog and Savage vs. Steamboat? aren't those the two all time greatest IC matches?

EDIT: HBK vs. Hacksaw...are you KIDDING me???

It's worth getting for the Michaels/Jannetty match alone. Some of you may remember this as the "instant replay" match. Meltzer gave it ****3/4 at the time and PWI called it MOTY for '93. It gets confused a lot, but it's NOT the title switch where Jannetty won the belt. It was a match a couple of months later.

Is the match complete, though? That's the only way I'll pick this up, as most of the other four look like stinkers (with a very average Michaels-Hennig match in there).

Presume this is a re-release, since all the matches are in the same time period.

Wouldn't spend too much on it, already got that Michaels vs Jannetty match.

Cheers.

I can see this being in the Wal Mart $5 bargain bins almost immediately, much like the History of Mania and the HBK re-release from 96 was.

Otherwise, why the fuck are they even putting this out? Calling it the "Best of the IC Championship" is a joke.

They re-release them because they're incredibly cheap to re-make as a DVD. And since DVD sales are good for them, they might as well take the chance and release it, since you never know what completist will buy it.

Where is Mr. Perfect vs Bret Hart at SS. Since that was like one of the best matches ever. Plus if Wimbley Stadium isn't even on it might as well burn it. Shit you could even add Shawn Michaels first IC win in Terre Haute. I saw that from the front row.

This is just a re-release of an old Coliseum Home Video. If you feel that strongly about it, please, go back in time to 1993 and bitch out Vince McMahon. You could probably fill him in on all sorts of interesting things in the future while you're there.

Is everyone THAT stupid to not realize this is one of those crappy Coliseum Videos WWE Released in 1993? (slaps everyone in the face with the cricket bat)

It's a shame they're doing it as a re-release. I mean if they made a new, original version with:

Savage/Steamboat - Wrestlemania 3

Rude/Warrior - Summerslam '89

Bret/Perfect - Summerslam '91

Bret/Bulldog - Summerslam '92

HHH/Rock - Summerslam '98

(Shit, never realised how many great IC matches Summerslam had!)

...it'd sell thousands of copies. Just release it as a double or triple disc set like Flairs and it'd fly off the shelf. Just seems like such an opportunity missed seen as they can hardly now turn round and release a proper one a few months down the line.

Maybe if this does good enough sales for a re-release they will. Who knew WWE would release a 2-Disc RVD set? Anything can happen in the WW...uh, WWE with no the.

The intro the video got is hilarious when you consider the matches included. The MOTY is obviously good and Skinner/Bret isn't bad, but Shawn was seriously dogging it all of 1993 when he wasn't in the ring with Jannetty.

He seriously was, watch the cage match with Jannetty on the Bloodbath DVD, Shawn is dogging it (or is wasted) and he is sporting a major gut. I think he was on cruise control because he was having a contract dispute, once he got the new contract, he got in better shape and started to produce. 93 was not a good year for Shawn

Let's try and think of good HBK matches from 1993 that weren't vs. Jannetty...

Uh... WM IX vs. Tatanka was decent, but not very memorable. He had a good match vs. the 1-2-3 Kid on RAW, but that was after the whole contract problem, so I disqualify that.

Bob Backlund had a decent five minute match with him on Raw. ;)

Was that the Summerslam Spectacular Special (Triple S for short) match, or another that I don't remember? If the SSS one, that was pretty decent, but it felt like Backlund was wrestling himself.

Eh, dunno. I have the date as 8/22/93.

Well it was a "Backlund" match. :)

Yup, thats the match I was thinking of (yay Backlund!). Better than another match they had (I think it's on Grudge Matches 93) where it was about 50x worse with a lame ending. I haven't watched the tape in months, so maybe I'm thinking of another lame ending, which is what the tape was filled with (and lame matches).
