Guest Jason Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Well, this is a question that plagues T.V and media producers. Has Reality T.V gone to far? Personally, I beileve it has. I heard that in London, there are making a T.V show called "Dust to Dust". It's about looking at dead bodies decomposing and they want people to give dead bodies of loved ones to expliot on T.V. And they classify this garbage as Reality T.V. If this sort of garbage continues, people are just going to flick to another channel and watch something else. Another show which sounds wrong is this show where a man trys to find his true love. But his true love is a man. Yep, its a homosexual love show. This show really pushs me further to the point where I hope that gay marragies are banned. Reality T.V is getting worse by the year. What are your thoughts on this? starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Normal ratio for hit-to-crap for TV shows is around 1:10 or so. Reality shows seem to hit at around 1:15, so I think you could make a case for it. As for gay marriages, if it's a civil union, I really don't have much problem with it. Frankly, committing to one person for the rest of your life is a huge committment, so if you're willing to do it, all power to you.
Special K 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Oooooooh. Homosecshuals! How ghastly and unseemly. I think reality TV has gone too far in the category of completely sucking. The only reality show I've ever enjoyed was Season 1 Joe Shmoe.

Gay dating shows (I don't go that way) is still > decomposing bodies, Who's Your Daddy, that one nanny show, The Swan, Trading Spouses, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, some parts of Fear Factor
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Saw an add for an Apprentice type Reality show with interior decorators. Talk about bad...
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Get rid of the heart-wrenching shit, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition becomes pretty good. Because, you know, tearing down a house has gotta be fun. Saw an add for an Apprentice type Reality show with interior decorators. Talk about bad... Food Network is doing something like that as well, where the winner gets their own show. That could probably go either way, actually...
Guest Scud Report post Posted December 15, 2004 Eh. This thread's kinda ghey. This is the correct answer. People who are offended by the television are lame. I don't even read the shit in the WWE folder because it's always OMG MICHAEL COLE POINTED OUT THAT BOOKER T IS BLACK. RACISM~! LET'S BOYCOTT WWE. I hope this folder doesn't end up like it with people complaining about reality shows going too far. Who cares what they do with dead bodies. The dead bodies don't care that's for sure. Don't be so damn uptight about this stupid shit.

After reading this all I can think of is Mad Tv's Michael McDonald in drag running around yelling "This is bullshit!" Reality TV has NEVER been good on the networks. E! has not done any better with the Anna Nicole Show or the new one about the spoiled princess.

Special K 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 I'm not offended by most 'controversial' content, I'm offended by just rank fucking stupidity being submitted as entertainment. Hey I know shitloads of stupid people! I don't want to read a book about them or watch them on TV! I want something stimulating. I don't even understand why some of the shows are popular. (I know why it's popular by the networks, it's cheap as fuck.) Is it just so we can look at complete idiots debasing themselves and feel better about ourselves? It's so bad the only things I watch on TV now are the FX original shows, Arrested Development, and football.

LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 I've never watched any reality TV. No interest. I really think Chappelle should've tried to get some money from FOX when they made Trading Spouses real. Another one that I think is pretty cold and pointless that is looking to get picked up is "Are You That Girl With T-Boz and Chili?", a reality show where the two remaining TLC members (the other one died last year) try to find their new member. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 It isn't just reality shows. The sitcoms are just as bad, if not worse, and most of the successful dramas are spinoffs of the same two or three. There are a few exceptions, but in general network TV has gone down the tubes. Writing is just terrible these days. If you want intellectually stimulating entertainment you have to go to the cinema. You're not going to get it on TV. We talk about the decline of WWE around here all the time, but the exact same thing is happening all over television. There are very few things worth watching any more that are not sports.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Reality shows are poison for the minds of people who know better, and heroin for the minds of people who don't know how to/want to deal with real reality.

Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Homosexuals? That's so gay! Anyway, I remember one of the creators of South Park saying that reality tv will end when they star airing baby fucking shows. And that when it airs, it will be the viewers fault, not the baby fuckers.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Couldn't you say that about ALL television programs? To an extent, yes. But these programs are designed specifically with that intention in mind. It doesn't even have the subtlety that Seinfeld or Friends had about it (Although it really isn't much anyway). This is probably the top reason why I intentionally watch the most ridiculous shit on TV, like cartoons, Star Trek, wrestling etc. I don't fall into the idealized characters, and I don't go into a television show looking for enlightening. Basically I enjoy the absurdity of a lot of shows while playing guitar or writing, and leave it at that.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 I see your point. Although personally, I watch quite a bit of reality tv (actually, just Amazing Race and Apprentice at this point) and I've never really had much of a problem treating the cast members as just characters. So I guess I'm still of the opinion that if you're living vicariously through people on reality tv, you're probably watching too much tv...

Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted December 16, 2004 The best new reality show I have seen recently is one on UK tv [we seem to create all these shows ] called The Heist. It takes 5 real life ex-cons and challenges them to steal something every week from a compnay wanting to test their security ie expensive painting, million pound car etc. The five guys ranging from a bank robber to a computer hacker are all straight out of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells and you just end up cheering them on whilst they pull these jobs off. Now some would call that shocking, morally curruptable and moan about the sad state of tv affairs. Me I think its great entertainment. For every one or two great reality shows there is a ton of knock offs and shit but for those few great ones its worth all the crap.

Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted December 16, 2004 And this Dust to Dust after googling it is a serious documentry not a reality show. There is no prize or reward or anything its a study by top forensics about human decomposition. By all accounts its a serious experimnet with the finding shown as a serious science docemmentry not a gaudy fear factor thing.
