Nighthawk Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 That conflicts with a story you told earlier, filthy liar.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Because they believe in the "magic of childhood" which is the biggest load of crap I've ever seen. There are elements of childhood which are given the romantic treatment in hindsight, but the whole Santa Claus thing comes from people too stupid to understand where this "magic" was coming from. I think its so they can try and get the kids to act nice all year...I know that's the reason why I would do it if I was a parent. If the kids act like shit then they can get Kingsford and I can spend money meant for gifts on myself.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Its also a good tool to strike fear in kids who have a phobia of fat men since he's always watching.

I don't know why I quoted your post to say that. I think I was originally going to say something else and forgot. But yes, spanking. I bet I can make a lot of people look stupid.

Is this the spanking your parents gave you with the belt that you hated or the kind a girl gives you with a paddle that you like? Because you need to specify dude.
Nighthawk Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 The kind your parents give you. Yes, that's what it had to do with his post. They're both methods of inducing good behavior.
Damaramu Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 The kind your parents give you. Yes, that's what it had to do with his post. They're both methods of inducing good behavior. Is spanking a physical or psychological thing? B/c if it's physical then wouldn't somebody who enjoyed hiring whores to spank them and walk on them in high heels enjoy getting in trouble as a kid so they could get a spanking?
Nighthawk Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 There was a movie about that. But it's not exactly a black and white issue. I mean, is sex physical or psychological?
Damaramu Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 There was a movie about that. But it's not exactly a black and white issue. I mean, is sex physical or psychological? Good point. It just always struck me as weird that someone would get turned on by a spanking from a whore but say that it hurt when there parents did it to them as a child. Then on top of that I never understood the getting walked on in high heels.....which has nothing to do with this but guys that like to get spanked sometimes like that.
Precious Roy Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Probably around 6 or 7 I gave up all disbelief, though my parents continued the charade until I was 13 or so *shakes head at how stupid parents can be*
Vern Gagne Posted December 23, 2004 Author Report Posted December 23, 2004 so I just went "okay...so where do you hide the presents?" I always regreted finding out what I got, before Christmas Day?
Damaramu Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I like surprises. I've always liked unwrapping my gift and finding out what I got. What's the fun in a present if you can't unwrap it?
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 I found when I was 7, and my cousins broke the news to me. I tried to argue with them but my parents broke it to me. Maybe there's a relation between this fact and the fact that I'm the only religious child in the extended family? If there is a relation, it doesn't bode well for the belief in God if Santa Claus is the measuring stick for validity.
CBright7831 Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Well now that he said 17, I'm glad I can put up 11 and not feel terrible. I think he was joking.
Art Sandusky Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Man, I criiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied.
Lightning Flik Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 Well now that he said 17, I'm glad I can put up 11 and not feel terrible. I think he was joking. Meh, oh well. I didn't actually know till 11. I mean, suspecious, yes. Didn't confirm it till 11.
Murmuring Beast Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 I was 11 and I don't remember being too bothered. From then on, I just thanked my parents for all my presents, instead of some fictional character.
Guest sek69 Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 I pretty much figured it out on my own around age 6 or 7. I too noticed that Santa's handwriting was identical to my mother's. I put 2 and 2 together soon enough. When I was in 5th grade my teacher told a story about how she figured out her dad was Santa, and when we all got up for a bathroom break there was one girl in my class just sitting there looking absolutely crushed with tears running down her face. My teacher had the biggest "OH SHIT" look on her face I ever saw.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 When I was 10, fourth grade I think, kids were talking in school about it, but I didn't want to believe it, so I drowned them out. Until Christmas eve, when I couldn't sleep, and went to sneek a peak at the tree and saw....my parents laying presents underneath. I cried. Just this year was when we all were accepting that my parents leave the presents under the tree, but nobody still said anything about it and we just kept saying "Santa" but holding back smiles and stuff. I don't know how long my younger brother has known, but this is the first year he was open about it, so since he's the youngest, it's all done now, but we still kept up the tradition like nothing was different.
The Czech Republic Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I think we had to keep up the Santa thing past its natural lifespan because of my sister being four years younger than me. As I recall by the time I was about 8 or 9, a lot of my presents were marked "from Mom and Dad" and most of my sister's were from Santa Claus. Providing I don't off myself before age 21 and remarkably go on to have a family of my own, what do you think is the best way to handle it? I don't want to insult my kids' intelligence with a made-up character, but I still want the whole spirit of the Christmas season to be there, and I don't want my kid being the loudmouthed bastard on the playground saying "my daddy said Santa is fake!" Would the "Santa Claus is a symbol for the spirit of giving" be a safe route? I don't want to lie and say that's really Santa at the mall. I mean, shit, there's a picture of me with a Santa at Randhurst Mall, and he's a lanky Korean. Remind me to post it some time.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I'm more concerned about you reproducing then how you should handle telling your hypothetical future children about the reality of a Made up character.
The Czech Republic Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 You barely even know me. Shut the fuck up, you ass.
MDH257 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I don't remeber how old I was. I think maybe 10 . I was getting suspicious and then one year my mom didn't bother to put the presents out before she went to bed the night before. I woke up, went downstairs, and there was nothing there.
