DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Busted Confirm Split Boyband Busted have split up after Charlie Simpson quit to form a new band. The trio confirmed the news at an emotion-charged press conference in central London - with Matt Jay leaving in tears and having to console distraught fans outside afterwards. Charlie admitted it was his decision and was quick to quash rumours he did not get on with Matt and third bandmate James Bourne. ""I'd like to say that I've been slightly concerned about the things I've read in the press recently saying that the band hasn't got on and I'm embarrassed about being in the band," said ex-public schoolboy Charlie. "I'd like to quash those rumours. I've had the most amazing three years." And he isn't hanging around - Charlie sped off in his BMW 4x4 and kicks off his first tour with new band Fightstar just hours later in Warwickshire. James added: "It's sad that Charlie feels the way he does, but we respect his decision. "We're sorry the fans had to find out through the papers. We wanted to tell the fans ourselves." Matt was so upset by the announcement that he left in tears. He later embraced several teenage girl fans as he wiped tears from his eyes and told them: "Thank you for everything." The band shot to fame in September 2002 with debut hit What I Go To School For. They enjoyed seven more hits before calling it a day. www.sky.com This upsets me greatly for several reasons. Firstly, this means that there will be no more tremendous Busted hits of the standard of "Who's David?", which was excellent. Secondly, the only member of Busted confirmed to be still involved in music is Charlie, who had minimal writing credits for any of the songs (Matt being the main writer) and has by far and away the worst voice in the band. Most irritatingly is the fact that, had I travelled to Coventry from Nottingham one night earlier, I could have seen Fightstar in concert last night at Warwick Uni. The only positive side is that the Coventry Evening Telegraph had an interview with small children giving their opinion on the Busted split, one of whom stated that Busted couldn't sing and they'd be much better with a member of G Unit on vocals, an idea that amused me greatly. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 If I were you, I wouldn't admit to knowing anything about or liking Busted. *looks over at avatar* ....Oh. Heh. But seriously... These guys were terrible. Those "seven hits" must have been only in the UK, because all I ever ehard by them was "What I Go To School For" and even that only started getting airplay maybe a year ago, and then only in video form on Fuse, which not a lot of people get. The guys were better than American boy bands since they actually played instruments and such, but there's a reason that they never made it big over here. I also find the image of the one band member crying with the teenage girl fans. I just can't imagine any of those guys taking the cheap, crappy, bubble gum gayness that they tried to pass off as music seriously. I guess they were crying over all the money and underage pussy that they would henceforth be without. That I could understand. Man, this is the best breakup news I've heard since B2K called it quits. Thankfully, the reality TV curse has struck again...
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 They were right to split up. They are getting too old for the market and, besides, McFly are the new boy-band now, dontchaknow??
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Their second album is actually really good. Much better than most of the crappy guitar bands that get hyped over here. I hear Fightstar are actually ok too.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 "A Present For Everyone" is indeed a tremendous album and showed a decent progression from the cheesier pop hits of the first album to actual songwriting ability, although "Thunderbirds Are Go" (a "bonus" track on the re-released version) is still pretty wank. The main problem Fightstar will have is who they'll appeal to. Just because Charlie has started wearing Funeral For A Friend t-shirts and covering Nine Inch Nails songs doesn't mean that people will suddenly start taking him seriously as a musician, but at the same time could well put off his teen fanbase. If their first release isn't fantastic, they'll be in trouble.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 How can it be fantastic? Most of the shit that's put out these days has some sort of fanbase, no matter how hated (or loved) they are by critics.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Gary Barlow had a fanbase after Take That split, he released really bad singles like "Forever Love", his career failed. Had he kept writing songs to the standard of "Back For Good", he'd likely have remained a success. What Charlie needs is a song good enough that cynics will forget his pop past and take him seriously for his music.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 I actually just discovered these guys within the past two months or so. I've only really heard "What I Go To School For" and "3am" that I really liked as of now.

rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Sleeping With The Light On, or whatever it's called, is a great song. The Thunerbirds song is cool too. Busted were a great pop band. They will be missed.

DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Main recommendations would be the singles, especially "You Said No" (also known as "Crash And Burn"), "Who's David", "Crashed The Wedding" and especially "Year 3000". The better album tracks would be "Loser Kid" (which includes a nice reference to "What I Go To School For") and "She Wants To Be Me"
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 When it comes to music, the Brits seem to be two steps ahead and three steps behind.

Guest INXS Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Busted were great in the sense that their music brought guitar based songs to the kids, instead of the usual wave of boy bands (although Busted were a boy band, I suppose). McFly are way better, but I can't really criticize Busted nethertheless.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 "Crashed The Wedding" is great, I downloaded it the other day.
Zorin Industries 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 To have a luvvie moment I sat beside Busted in a resturant in Barcelona. Their complete cunts, with the possible exception of the blonde one, who at least had the decency to not make to much of a racket, unlike the other two bastards. I was very tempted to stab them with my fork.
Modern Man's Hustle 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Are these those fools that had some tv show called America or Busted?
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Yeah, that show was possibly the most staged reality show, that was actually trying to be realistic, I've ever seen. Their PR guy was such a TOOL that their was no way he could be a real guy.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2005 I recommend "Nerdy", possibly the best song about being "Nerdy" since Johan Sebastian Bach's "Opus for Nerds 3rd Movement".
