I love EA.

Recommended Posts

I need to take all my old, worthless EA Sports games and maybe buy some more for $5 a pop and take them over to the EA-LA offices for a mass burning. I'm sure I can get others to join in.

Well, probably not, but it sounds good in theory.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

Madden and Berman in the same game. I can't possibly not buy this enough. Of course this year's Madden lasted about 3 days before getting traded for MVP and Soulcaliber so it's probably not a crippling loss on my part.

EA can go fuck themselves for the sole reason that I have to sift through about 5000 copies of their shitty old games that nobody wants as I'm trying to find some quality used games.

Plus, there's plenty of gall of them to release one of the controllers with the "classic" 95 games built in. Gamestops/EBs will give the damn things away to get them the hell out of their store, if they haven't thrown them in the dumpster yet.

At my store, we can't even give away those pieces of trash. The Namco/Activision/Atari controller games packs are flying off the shelves, though.

I hope EA dies a drowning mega-bankrupt death. Ever since Trip Hawkins left, EA is just shit.

Sega didn't have the ESPN license for a while, and it didn't seem to hurt. The only problem I think this presents Sega is that loyal customers might pick up EA's ESPN game, thinking its Sega's.

Anyone that dumb deserves what they get.

Madden 2006, best football game EVER.

"EA", "football", and "best" do not belong in the same sentence.

They don't belong in the same zipcode.

So ESPN essentially left their developers hanging out to dry here? Great job.

And you know who would replace Madden if he leaves don't you? The Sunday Night Football guys!! Joe Theismann is recording 20 hours of complaining about the rules and the refs as we speak. And God help you if you pick the Falcons.

Yeah, I saw that as well. This is just getting ugly.

EA's the one that "brought a knife to a fist fight." Now VC is pulling out their "knives," too.

This isn't good for gaming, that's all I can say.

Boo on VC for going down this route, but double boo for EA for starting it.

And Boo for like, all their videogames except SSX.

Visual Concepts has decided that what's good for the goose is good for the gander: http://sports.ign.com/articles/580/580468p1.html?fromint=1

I find it interesting that the exclusivity is only for 3rd Party Licensers. It's almost like VC wanted it set up that way specifically to fuck EA. I say, "more power to you."

Excellent.

I'd laugh if they nail this down, just to spit in EA's face for starting this.

So who takes the risk and tries to grab the rights to the NHL?

I'm not buying an EA game, I gave up on them after renting this year's game. It was the same old EA game and now they really have no reason to improve their gameplay.

This is getting pretty fucking ridiculous. Remember when people could just make a game that was good or bad and you couldd buy it or not buy it?

Yeah, that was back when Nintendo and Sega held all the cards. Now, some of the 3rd Party Licensers are holding quite a few themselves.

Here's hoping VC manages to secure the deal with the MLB and NBA, which then essentially will fuck over EA badly.

EA is probably going "okay, what the fuck did we just start?"

Congrats to the 3rd publishing parties for finally fucking over the big guy, since the big guy has been fucking the 3rd parties over forever.

I wouldn't have any problem with VC getting exclusive with the NBA and NHL because they definitely make the far better games for those two sports. The same can not be said for their Football, and MVP was by far the best baseball game out last year so that would suck if VC gets MLB.

Unintentionally hilarious, considering that for MLB, EA has a far better game.

Um, didn't Sega start this by lowering prices?

Anyways, for hoops EA is probably good as long as they can keep Street, but from a business perspective ESPN is already in bed with the NBA, so EA has a leg up there.

As for the NHL, they need as much revenue as they can get, and that's probably by not going exclusive.

Lowering prices and buying exclusive rights of whatever sport is like not very comparable.

What he means is that it was originally reported that the NFL sought out this deal (not EA) because they were upset over the pricing of the Sega games, in which case the NFL is to blame for this and not EA.

I don't know the full story, so I won't go beyond saying that this whole fiasco is bad for video games.

The NFL still gets paid, so what are they whining about?

My guess is that they got a portion of the profits, which was lessened by the price drop. I'm not sure if the whole thing is even true. I just remembered it being mentioned in the original article.

That's the thing. It won't be "Madden" being that this year was probably Madden's last year with the series.

So, nor more Madden?

It won't be the same game.

Crap.

When you look at them individually, no. But consider - Sega does the price lowering. It eats into EA's profits, and possibly pisses off the NFL. If you're EA, you don't just stand there and twiddle your thumbs. But in this case, you have a partner in the NFL who is willing to go the extra mile with you, and boom, Sega's shut out of the NFL license (although not the NFLPA?).

Personally I'd have thought the song and dance would've gone on a couple more years. You know, EA does something to get their sales back, Sega does something else, etc. But as Kahran noted, the NFL was willing to make this happen, so things accelerated just a wee bit.
