Guest Phenom Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Starting tonight, we're going to get another faceful of the decade that was. What year do you think will be most interesting? I say: 1998. Everything happened in that year, I believe.

The Ill One 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 How much nostalagia can we have for the 90s? Even as a younger child where my years of "youth" where in the 90s it seems so pointless. I guess it's a decent time killer overall though.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The 90's can't hold a candle in terms of camp, and pop culture to the 70's and 80's.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The shit was also five years ago. How can you be nostalgic about something that just happened?
Guest Smues Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I know the 90's aren't that long ago, but to me that's part of the reason I like these shows. 70s was before I was born, and most of the 80s I don't remember, so those shows were nice to learn what went on before my time. 90s I remember vividly and is cool to see the stuff I was actually around for. For some odd reason VH1 showed I love 90 part deux and I love 91 part deux yesterday and today, so i've already seen both of tonights episodes. Good stuff. Except for one problem, the same problem I've had with each I love the show...MICHAEL IAN BLACK FUCKING SUCKS. This guy is terrible. I was hoping they'd cut back on the Black for Part deux, but nope. He was all over 90 and 91, and he's still as unfunny and annoying as ever. DIE YOU PIECE OF SHIT DIE.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 They should've replaced Michael Ian Black with Donal Logue. Logue + Sparks = COMEDY.
Guest Smues Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I agree. Logue was good on I love the 80's. At this point an empty chair would be more entertaining then Michael Ian Black, and far less annoying.
The Ill One 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Man I guess I'm a minority here but I can't stand Logue, the only time I laughed was when he did that rant on the Garfield suction cups. Usually Spark is the one who gets me to laugh but, again, the show's only purpose for me is as a time killer.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The main problem with doing the shows on the 90s is that by the 1990s there was no unified pop culture that people could agree on and say "Yes that was a notable thing that year." Stuff like Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place was never THAT popular, folks. I'm sorry it just wasn't. Fox was certainly the #4 network and the shows weren't anywhere near the phenomenons they make it out to be. When I watch these shows I tend to tune out stuff like that because I never watched it and simply didn't care. Ditto Ally McBeal...someone had to tell me what the hell that baby was all about cause I had no idea. Never watched it. The 90s is a hard decade to have nostalgia for and will remain that way no matter how much time elapses. It was too jaded of a time period, too much sneering and looking down on previous eras. While I enjoy several bands from the decade, I can't really get myself to have huge nostalgia for the period and I'd think that is mainly because I don't think people were terribly happy in the decade. razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I say: 1998. Everything happened in that year, I believe OJ started searching golf courses for the real killers, Michael Jackson had some fun with the kiddies, and La Toya got bitch smacked by her manager husband? lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 The Thing is the 90's had no fucking culture. The first half of the decade was basically an extended 1980's and the last half of the decade is exactly the same as things are today. Face it the 1930's were more interesting than the 1990s. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Hopefully, something happens and a culture explosion happens this year. It usually happens in the fifth year of a decade. It's about time we put the stuff from the latter half of the 90s away.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I think that the 1990s were interesting. .... Enthalling, one might say? I did play the Atari Jaguar. Don't look at me like that. It's because I'm Jewish, isn't it.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 The notion that the 90s was the same as the 80s up until 95 or so is a yes and no statement. I wouldn't say music was much similar at all, at least once Nirvana hit and gangsta rap became the norm. Now if you wanna talk about cheesy pop music, sure stuff like Amy Grant and Wilson Phillips might as well have been from the 80s. Movies were also basically the same stuff. While I doubt Pulp Fiction would have been an 80s type film, does anyone doubt that Forrest Gump could have been with ease? 1994 was easily the most noteworthy year of the decade. 1998 was perhaps a more ENJOYABLE year for me personally, but there was way too much crap like boy bands and rap/rock to really make it terribly significant. But I'm drained of this "I LOVE THE" crap VH-1 is doing. It's gotten old. It';s just not funny anymore. Now it's just VH1: We are officially out of ideas
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Stuff like Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place was never THAT popular, folks. I'm sorry it just wasn't. Fox was certainly the #4 network 90210 had pretty good ratings in its second-fourth seasons. But after that, they declinded big time.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I think the way people view the 90's differs. I was born in 1985, so the ONLY thing that I remember from the 80's is 1987, when I finally got my hands on Nintendo. After that, the stuff on TV, the hype of toys and new systems, EVERYTHING that happened in the 90's was awesome...well...to me...of course. Around my neighborhood, this was the stuff in the 90's we cared about ALOT: -The appearance of Nintendo, and then the Nintendo systems following NES -TV shows like The Simpsons, Family Matters, etc. -ALL THE KIDS in my school were FULLY immersed into the Power Rangers hype in general. -The fun we had overall... I loved the 90's, but hey, I still got a couple of more decades to go, maybe it will get better than that.

A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I was surprised to see a promo for the show featuring Larry Bird? Was I the only one who remembers that Bird was lying on his stomach for the last few years of his career, trying to fight chronic back problems? Hell, he retired in like 1992 anyways. Any mention of the Bulls Dynasty?

KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Is Flavor Flav's 15 minutes up yet? My watch is broken. The Wonderbra segment was great. And Michael Ian Black got in the best line: "I just want to titfuck you and come on your clavicle."

Fox was certainly the #4 network 90210 had pretty good ratings in its second-fourth seasons. But after that, they declinded big time. To say that 90210 wasn't that popular indicates that the poster is either really young, or really high. While I personally wasn't a fan of the show, most of my peers were. I don't know if it's because the characters were the same age as me or what, but so many people I knew in high school and college used to watch that show religiously. Hell, even I participated in drinking games during that show. Melrose Place, though, I agree was never that popular ... sadly, it was the show that I preferred to watch. Sydney, Jane, tasty. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 I actually like this one so far. It feels more like the 80's ones than the last I love the 90's did.
Brocklock 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 It's okay, but as usual way too much MIB. He pretty much has unfunny comments on damn near everything featured here. Plus he mentioned Jews at least 20 times so far. Rachel Harris is getting kind of lame too. Sparks and Rocca are still funny. I don't think I saw Logue at all, which is a shame since he was the show stealer on the I Love The 80's Shows.
Guest Smues Report post Posted January 21, 2005 Hal Sparks owns. MIB as usual is terrible, but everyone at VH1 must think he's hilarious, because he's all over those shows, they put clips of him up on the website, and at least once in I love the 90's PD you can hear people in the room laughing at his crappy antics. OMG HE CAN'T PUt HIS SHIRT ON FUNNY
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 -TV shows like The Simpsons, Family Matters, etc. Wasn't that like 1989? *checks* Alright, the actual first episode (Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire) was Christmas 89, everything else EVER from the show (outside of Ullman) was done in the 90s/00s. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 I guess my main problem with all this 90210 stuff is this: Nothing about the show really is really 90s. I mean hell, if that show was on in say 1987 or 88 would anyone have noticed the difference? Anyone want to take on the challenge of finding its ratings compared to the ultra popular shows of the time? And by the way, I was born in 1979 so it's not like I am too young to remember it...I just never gave a rat's ass about it.
