Kevin Matthews to get WWE tryout

Recommended Posts

Kevin Matthews Set To Work for WWE

Kevin Matthews, indy journeyman, will be hopefully wrestling a dark match for the WWE on February 22nd, 2005. Kevin will hopefully be wrestling a dark match for the Smackdown brand, during the Smackdown tapings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The show will take place at the Wachovia Center at 7:00 PM.

Kevin was contacted by the WWE this week to show up to the Smackdown taping. It is not 100% known if he will actually wrestle a dark match or appear on camera in a non-wrestler role.

For people who don't know, Kevin Matthews is 6'5", 260 pounds and 21 years old.

Kevin received this opportunity after receiving assistance from Rob Feinstein. The RF Video Owner, forwarded Kevin Matthews' promo tape and 8 x 10's to WWE Agent Tommy Dreamer. Kevin was informed by Tommy Dreamer earlier this week that he liked his stuff and was going to give Kevin the biggest opportunity in his young career.

Rob Feinstein has been making waves in the news recently for putting indy wrestlers in contact with Tommy Dreamer, in an effort to help indy wrestlers get tryout matches with WWE. Rob Feinstein recently helped Jack Evans, Jay Lethal, and an unnamed TNA Wrestler (To protect his privacy and contract with TNA, I will not say his name) in their efforts to reach the WWE. Kevin Matthews is the first wrestler to receive WWE work due to Rob Feinstein.

Rob Feinstein told the DOI "I am proud of Kevin. He's gone so far in his work. I have been scouting alot of indy shows as of late, and Kevin is so much better from when I first saw him in USA Pro Wrestling. I am rooting for him."

It should be noted that Tommy Dreamer liked Kevin Matthews' work, and that is the number 1 reason why he is getting the chance. Kevin has improved tremendously, in my eyes, from when I first saw him in a ring 3 years ago. Kevin recently won the WXW Tag Team Championships, with former Tough Enough contestant Greg Matthews. The WXW Tag Team Belts is the biggest title Kevin Matthews has held as of press time.

Personally knowing Kevin, it's great to see someone who has matured and grown in the last year get this opportunity. The DOI wishes our best of luck to Kevin in his pursuit of receiving a weekly WWE payday.

"Kevin Matthews - At only 18 years old, Kevin is 6' 4" tall and 230 pounds. He bumps and works much in the style of a very young Dick Murdoch. (Also tough shoes to fill) Kevin's interviews are strong. Kevin has a personality in the ring that the fans like. Even though he is a heel, it is always evident he is happy to be where he is. It is obvious he loves the business." - Dory Funk Jr.

God, this is funny for so many reasons.

I have seen his work. There is this local indy fed only a couple of blocks away from my house that I go to.

For a man his size, he can really wrestle in that ring. He fits the big man fetish that Vince likes. If he does make it, I just hope he doesn't become a random hoss.....

He didn't cut any promos when I saw him, but he has a way with words. He was working the crowd big time, and generated some big time heel heat when he was around. He has been controversial with some of the things he has done.

I remember reading something about he was badly booked in a promotion, and he was champ at that promotion. He got so mad, he decided to piss on the title...

Didn't Feinstein get exposed for being a pedo or was that a hoax?

I thought it turned out that the newsgroup that busted him has a track record of tampering with internet conversations to make them incriminating.

KM's a good worker, not great, but definitely is good enough for the E. He does cut very decent promos and unlike some other big guys, he can actually move and do things in the ring. I'm for this WWE tryout.

Not that having a child molestor as a reference is going to *hurt* your chances at getting a job in WWE...

You know, that's quite possible.

But that begs the questions:

1. Why did RF go to the kids house in the first place?

2. Why did he RUN AWAY when it became obvious that there was no 14-year old, just a grown man with a camera?

Here's a question:

What the fuck does Feinstein's criminal record have to do with Matthews ability as a wrestler?

Nothing.

The article, however, is just more shit paving the way for when Rob opens another indy promotion again, because he'll say that he can get guys jobs with the WWE, so they should work for him. If you don't read this as a "three cheers for Rob" article, I think you're missing something.

Or maybe, just maybe, the article is about how much the wrestler impressed WWE officials and will get a dark match in the near future.

Come on man, I'm a fuckin' journalism major. The first three paragraphs talked about the wrestler.

Aside from the three after, Feinstein had nothing to do with the article.

Hell, with that logic, Tommy Dreamer was the main figure in the story.

I just don't like how every time the Feinstein's name is mentioned, people drop what the original purpose of the thread.

The article may be focused on Dreamer & Matthews, but Feinstein gets the credit for getting Matthews looked at. Which means that Feinstein will have leverage with people when he starts a new promotion.

Kevin Matthews, indy journeyman

An 18 year old journeyman? Christ, I'm getting old...

He's 21 now, and was 18 when Dory said his quote.

Not that 3 years makes someone a journeyman, but it's at least better than an 18 year old.

 I like this guy already. From looking at the photos, he certainly looks the part, if he has at least some in ring skill i'm all for seeing the guy get a shot. Though if he signs with WWE, he'll probably be sent to OVW and that's where he'll stay until any individuality he has is gone and only a generic hoss is left.
