Guest Loss Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I hate to start a thread for such a simple question, but I wondered if anyone knew of any possibility that the entire Daria series might eventually be released on DVD. I haven't heard anything, and I'm surprised MTV hasn't tried to market it. Anyone else know something I don't that's caused it not to happen?
Jingus Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 No clue, and it's not for lack of searching on my part. The only Daria dvds available are the two feature-length movies they did. I wish they would release the entire series, cuz it's one of my all-time favorites.
5_moves_of_doom Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I've got a six-disc bootleg set with every episode, the pilot, and the Is It College Yet? movie that closed the series. Plus I've got the Is It Fall Yet? movie on VHS from when I taped it while it originally aired. So... yes, I am set. Thank God for ebay.
Guest The Iron Yuppie Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I've read on a few sites that MTV may be considering releasing Daria on DVD, but if they did so, it wouldn't be any time over the next twelve months. It's been suggested that weak sales of the movies have contributed to lack of interest in putting out the series itself, but a fairly strong (and vocal) fanbase is trying to force reconsideration of that stance.
Nighthawk Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 If anything, you'd think they'd put out Beavis and Butthead before Daria.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 If you look closely and carefully, you can find Daria on really, really late at night (like, I think it's followed up by early morning's children programming) on Noggin. Of course, they chop it up like nobody's business because of "obscene material".
Spaceman Spiff Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 If anything, you'd think they'd put out Beavis and Butthead before Daria. They don't want to have to pay all those music groups royalties by keeping the videos in the show. And, as great as B&B was, B&B without the videos loses a lot of the appeal.

It's the same thing with Daria - every episode used no less than 5 licensed songs.
the max Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Plus each episode always was summed up by one song that played over the credits. That'd be a lot of money in royalties. I'd buy it, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it.
Star Ocean 3 Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Beavis and Butthead is on DVD, without the music videos. Daria isn't likely because the one Daria DVD that's out apparently didn't sell well.

Actually it's more like 12-15 songs per episode but they are mainly used as generic background music so they could easily be removed.

Only the two Daria movies (both of which come with two bonus episodes each) are on DVD. Last I heard, the reason it isn't out on DVD is that MTV gutted their animation division a couple of years back (right before Daria ended) and that said gutting ended with Paramount gaining control over all of MTV's animation show library and essentially sitting on it for no good reason save for them being able to do so. That being said, it's been heavily rumored in the last year and a half that Paramount might liscence out a bunch of the MTV toons to other companies ala Invader Zim for DVD release and that Daria has been mentioned as one of the shows that Paramount has received interest in with regards to other companies wanting to buy the rights to release the show on DVD.

Yeah, but replacing them with generic stock music would be a little disappointing since the song selections were always really good. But really, the only thing that would really be hurt is the credits (and then I guess they could just use the instrumental version of the opening theme like they did for the first few episodes).
