justcoz 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 The problem with older wrestlers who have peaked is they just don't know when to quit. I think/hope Rock does. Either sticking around Hollywood or just relaxing in retirement both look and sound a lot better than the third option. Rock is only 30, right?
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I don't see how this need to be such a dramatic issue anyway. he was only appearing at least once a year lately anyway. So he's gone well good luck to him. He got a few good movie roles lined up, if that continues then he got a well established career ahead of him. If the well dries up.... the WWE wouldn't be a bad alternative to fall back on when he needs to. I doubt they would begrudge him a new contract like they would say a Brock lesnar who was not as loyal as Rock was the past nearly 10 years Still one thing he may as well miss, is having the 15,000 minimum of Live fans cheering and chanting his name that awesome rush, that wall of approval and cheers... Yeah, but now a days it's like 6,000 fans, half papered and the upper deck blacked out chanting his name!

Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Well Salutations to the Rock, he had a great 9 year run, and he left pretty much in his prime. Definetly one of the best promo men of all time. I always prefered him to Austin because Rock was more creative with his promos, and in my mind his work as a heel is still some of the best I've ever seen. Either sticking around Hollywood or just relaxing in retirement both look and sound a lot better than the third option. Rock is only 30, right? He turns 33 in May, IIRC. Granted, he's not ready for the nursing home, but if he were to stick around he'd only have a few more years of the pace that he's been going before he'd start to get stale. Someone mentioned "go home" heat. Personally, I'm starting to feel it towards the Rock.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 10, 2005 A few years left? You are aware most wrestlers are just getting started @ 33 right? He'd likely would have had 10 more years left in him baring major injury. I don't think he's getting "go home" heat but more of a "why should we care about your once a year apperence?" heat. If he was a more stable and consistant performer, he'd still be over like crazy.

If he was a more stable and consistant performer, he'd still be over like crazy. I don't think I'm as concerned with injury (even though I probably should be) as I am with keeping Rock "fresh," though. He's still young, but honestly, the guy has peaked in his wrestling popularity and now he's (wisely) looking for something less strenuous. Also, perhaps his heat might not be "go home" heat just yet, but like he said here... In the new issue of Playboy, which hits the stands on 2/11, The Rock discusses a number of topics about his wrestling and acting career. In an excerpt currently up on the Playboy website, The Rock is asked if there was any tension between he and Vince McMahon about his departure from World Wrestling Entertainment: "Never. By the time this article comes out, I'll be done with him contractually, but Vince and I are very close. We worked together, my grandfather worked for his dad, and my dad worked for him. He's been as supportive as a dad to me. He knew I loved being in The Mummy Returns. I told him I wanted to break into films with The Scorpion King but that I'd wrestle as well. I grew up in wrestling. I am proud that my grandfather and dad wrestled. But when I filmed The Scorpion King I worked through the week, and on Sunday I would fly somewhere to do Raw or a pay-per-view. I had no days off, and it almost killed me. I wanted to give 110 percent to acting, and after that I realized I'd have to choose." ...he can't spread his fire in both directions. If he were to make a full-time comeback now while still wanting to have an acting career (which I don't think he's ready to fully abandon), I just don't think he'd put the heart and soul in it that he did back in 1997-1998. That's why I think his heat would be "go home" heat. People would eventually get sick and tired of him continuing to half-ass his work like he's been doing for the past few years. CBright7831 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 The Rock was recently internviewed on the Filmforce.com website about several of his upcoming film projects including Get Cool and Spy Hunter. When the topic of a WWE return comes up, he commented, "No. They've been wanted for a long time to get into the movie business and, I'm not too sure, I think like low budget movies, a lot of them straight to video. I think they wanted to and were looking for different distributors. No, my contract is actually up with them, it was up last year, so I'm done…" credit ProWrestling.com This doesn't look too credible to me. The grammar in that second paragraph is awful. Thoughts? Someone should tell prowrestling.com it's 'Be Cool', not 'Get Cool'.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 The Rock finally did what no other American wrestler except Jesse Ventura has done: he beat the system. He became just as rich & powerful as the promoters, and is officially the very first professional wrestler to become a full-fledged movie star. He's out-maneuvered Hogan, HHH, Austin, and used all of them to make himself a bigger star than ever. The man is quite frankly a genius, and deserves his rewards. Oh, and he will come back to the WWE, sooner or later. It's in his blood. He can't stay away forever. Wrestlemania calls.
Guest PlatinumBoy Report post Posted February 10, 2005 One bombed movie doesn't neccesarily end a career. With the possible exception of Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks; most a list hollywood stars have endured a bomb or more in their career Cruise and Hanks have been in bombs too. Most recently, The Ladykillers or whatever it was for Hanks.

Guest SoZe Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Vanilla Sky grossed 100 million in theaters alone. It also rented very well too. So, a bomb it was not.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 15, 2005 Heres more Clarification In an interview with IGN last week, The Rock stated that he was "done" with WWE. In a followup interview done this week, The Rock further clarified what happened between him and WWE. The Rock on his contract status: "Well, contractually, my contract was up, it came and went last year, at the end of the year last year, and it was an interesting way it all came out. I wasn't contacted or notified or anything like that. The Rock on whether WWE just dropped him more or less: "It was never brought up. Yeah, basically. And I was over in Prague, as my man there was saying, filming, and again, it was just one of those things that kinda like hit like a ton of bricks. Because again, my own team, my managers and everybody, they're congratulating me. It moved me, because I had so much love from them, I thought well…" The Rock on the possibility of returning to wrestling: "I'm sure the door's always open and I appreciate that… But yeah, I do miss the fans, that part sucks that, you know what I mean, I can't perform live like that. I'm sure I will one day… I love it, man. I love just, you know, live interaction…" The Rock on whether he has the rights to use "The Rock" name: "No, actually I do. It's almost like a dual ownership, and we had made that agreement, I would say, a couple of years ago, so I'm able to go out and use the name The Rock and be billed as The Rock, if I wanted to, in movies… It's interesting now how things have kinda just taken a life of its own in terms of the name where everybody's like, 'Oh hey Dwayne Johnson...'" Just like Austin did for him.
