Obscure/Forgotten Cartoons you watched

Beakman's World (not a cartoon but this seems to be a completely forgotten kids show)

 

I remember this show very well.

 

It explained the fucking THEORY OF RELATIVITY in one episode.

 

Yeah, that's right. Some crazy scientist dude with a guy in a rat suit explained E=MC^2 to me.

I remember them being 30 minutes.

 

Jem was based on a Hasbro toy, and the cartoon was made by the same studio that did GI Joe and Transformers.

It was kinda weird. They started off with a half-hour block consisting of 10-minute (incl commercials) eps of Jem, Bigfoot and Robotix. Then, they moved to 15 minutes each with the shows rotating (I think they added a different show here as well). Finally, Jem got the full 1/2 hour, and the others went away.

I think the 10/15 minute episodes were just the individual segments of the 30 minute versions. When Jem got her own 30 minute show, they reran the older 10/15 shows as complete episodes.

 

 

I totally had to pull that shit out of the back of my mind.

Robotix and Bigfoot were basically movie length shows that were broken up into 10 parts or so. I have the Robotix tape.

Inhumanoids drove me nuts because I loved the toys, never saw the show.

 

Do you ever download a few of the old shows and watch them? Say what you will about Pokemon and Power Rangers and that sort of stuff, but shows like He-Man were the most random, short attention span shows of all time. You can watch them, and they just DO NOT MAKE SENSE!

Stunt Dawgs, the Where's Waldo Cartoon, Eek the Cat, Bonkers, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, Heathcliff, Robocop I think had an 80's cartoon with Dino Riders and Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. While not a cartoon, there was some show about these huge lifesize Sea Monkeys or something like that--used to come on real early on Fox on Saturday mornings I think.

 

Also not cartoons, but all the Power Rangers rip offs: VR Troopers, the Ultraman like one (forget what it was called), Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills....

As for the topic...the Back to the Future cartoon. Chronicaling AFTER the movie...yet somehow the Delorian was rebuilt...

 

I also found it funny that while Christopher Lloyd did the live sequences, he did NOT do the voice for Doc Brown in the cartoon itself.

Got the series on VHS, but I don't think it's that obscure. Same with Battle of the Planets.

MASK isn't obscure, but judging by the median age of the board, most people are too young to have watched it during its initial run.

 

Battle of the Planets I would say is obscure, since I had to google "1980's cartoons" to even remember the title of the cartoon.

We still have some M.A.S.K novels in our bookshelf, had no idea it was an actual cartoon.

The Ultraman-alike was Superhuman Samurai Syber (or maybe it was Cyber) Squad. And it's scary I remember this, but it starred future Boy Meets World supporting cast member Matthew Lawrence AND the nerdy kid from Parker Lewis.

That was part of the fun of the 80's. If the cartoon was not an anime import (and sometimes even if it was), it was only there to sell toys (or get kids to play more Frogger and/or Q*Bert), and screw the production values. Of course nowadays most of the shows are just anime imports, and they're slicker (ongoing) 22 minute commercials than anything we got in the 80's.

Kinda goes without saying for any imported Sentai/live action series, although Power Rangers have gotten better at mixing the "American" action scenes with the Japanese ones.

 

Ultraman Tiga (? I think that's the name) is an exception, as they only dubbed it.
