The Pittsburgh Pirates finished below .500 for the twelveth year in a row. Once again, the Pirates' ownership blamed their team's failures on market conditions. This year, in order to improve their club, the Pirates traded their franchise catcher or Mark Redman and Matt Lawton. Of course, there is a small snag with this plan, being that the team needs a catcher. Benito Santiago is just about finished, and Humberto Cota played 116 games in the last two years combined. The Pirates finished 13th in run production, and outside of Lawton, they did little to improve.

Honestly, this isn't a very inspiring club to write about.

Well, I'll say that they have a decent young rotatiom but a weak lineup and their depth is atrocious. I feel bad for Pittsburgh fans, the nicest baseball stadium I've attended, yet such an uninspiring team. 6th place finish...

PROJECTED LINEUP

1. Matt Lawton RF

2. Jack Wilson SS

3. Jason Bay LF

4. Craig Wilson 1B

5. Ty Wigginton 3B

6. Tike Redman CF

7. Humberto Cota C

8. Jose Castillo 2B

Rotation

1. O. Perez

2. K. Wells

3. J. Fogg

4. M. Redman

5. S. Burnett

Oliver Perez and Jason Bay should be bright spots for the team, but beyond them i see nothing to indicate this season will be any different from the last decade of sub-par performances.

If you needed any conclusive evidence that Lloyd McClendon is the worst manager in baseball, here it is:

http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review...e/s_319809.html

He's going to bat Tike Redman 3rd.

That's Tike Redman of the .319 OBP and .394 SLG for his career.

"I like his contact, I like his average, I like his two-strike approach, and I like his speed atop the order," McClendon said. "If he's on base, that's going to allow the big boppers behind him to see a few more fastballs."

That's a big if.

Dusty Baker read this, and thought to himself "You can't beat ME, McClendon. Just you wait. Just you wait."
