EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 The Pittsburgh Pirates finished below .500 for the twelveth year in a row. Once again, the Pirates' ownership blamed their team's failures on market conditions. This year, in order to improve their club, the Pirates traded their franchise catcher or Mark Redman and Matt Lawton. Of course, there is a small snag with this plan, being that the team needs a catcher. Benito Santiago is just about finished, and Humberto Cota played 116 games in the last two years combined. The Pirates finished 13th in run production, and outside of Lawton, they did little to improve. Honestly, this isn't a very inspiring club to write about.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Well no wonder you'll be able to do 30 teams in 30 days if you provide reviews like this. Honestly, this isn't a very inspiring club to write about. You think watching them is any better?...
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 13, 2005 Author Report Posted March 13, 2005 It's more of a discussion starter. Sometimes I have more to say about some teams than others.
Vern Gagne Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 30 teams in 3 minutes Seattle bad San Fran. pretty good Oakland ok LA Angeles Good Dodgers ok Padres pretty good Rockies suck D'Backs bad Royals suck Rangers pretty good Astros ok Cardnials Good Twins Good Brewers Bad Cubs pretty good White Sox ok Tigers Bad Indians ok Reds Bad Pirates suck Phillies pretty good Mets ok Yankees Good Red Sox Good Blue Jays ok Orioles ok Nationals bad Braves Good Marlins Good Devil Rays suck
Styles Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Well, I'll say that they have a decent young rotatiom but a weak lineup and their depth is atrocious. I feel bad for Pittsburgh fans, the nicest baseball stadium I've attended, yet such an uninspiring team. 6th place finish... PROJECTED LINEUP 1. Matt Lawton RF 2. Jack Wilson SS 3. Jason Bay LF 4. Craig Wilson 1B 5. Ty Wigginton 3B 6. Tike Redman CF 7. Humberto Cota C 8. Jose Castillo 2B Rotation 1. O. Perez 2. K. Wells 3. J. Fogg 4. M. Redman 5. S. Burnett
Cuban Linx Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Oliver Perez and Jason Bay should be bright spots for the team, but beyond them i see nothing to indicate this season will be any different from the last decade of sub-par performances.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 14, 2005 Author Report Posted March 14, 2005 Vern, what are you doing here when you could be writing sports for Inside Pulse? Sean Burnett is out for the season btw. The fifth starter's slot is up for grabs between Ryan Vogelsong and Dave Williams.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Don't feel bad Slapnuts, we don't care about them. And on the bright side, with the lack of fans attending, that just saves money on maintainence costs...

Bored Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 If you needed any conclusive evidence that Lloyd McClendon is the worst manager in baseball, here it is: http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review...e/s_319809.html He's going to bat Tike Redman 3rd. That's Tike Redman of the .319 OBP and .394 SLG for his career. "I like his contact, I like his average, I like his two-strike approach, and I like his speed atop the order," McClendon said. "If he's on base, that's going to allow the big boppers behind him to see a few more fastballs."

geniusMoment Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 The Pirates may suck, but I would be willing to eat an entire hot dog (with ketchup, not mustard) if the reds could get Oliver Perez.

Just you wait."
the max Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Dusty will make Kerry Wood and Mark Prior pitch left-handed in order to save their arms.
Bruiser Chong Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 The whole reason Tike got dropped from the leadoff spot was because he was doing so badly. What sense does it make to put him in another spot where production is expected?
The Czech Republic Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Dusty will make Kerry Wood and Mark Prior pitch left-handed in order to save their arms. I think Dusty is making Ryan Dempster the #5 starter, which might be questionable. I thought he was limited to relief appearances because of the surgery
