Mole Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I was looking at The-Numbers.com and I came across something interesting. It seems that SLJ is the new box-office king, with The Incredibles, it pushed him past Harrison Ford. Jackson movies have made $3,397,238,322 next to Ford's $3,255,071,377. Granted, Jackson has been in 63 movies while Ford has only been in 33, but he does have a nice record under his belt.
BlackFlagg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Harrison would probably retake the lead by a good number if it was adjusted for inflation, the numbers for the Star Wars movies would explode if it was done with present day ticket prices
bob_barron Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Jackson's 100 mil grossers: Coming to America Jurassic Park Pulp Fiction Die Hard with a Vengeance A Time to Kill Star Wars Episode 1 Star Wars Episode 2 XXX SWAT Incedibles
BlackFlagg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 plus I think ya'd have to tak einto account most of the time Sam is a side charecter where as Harrison was the main attraction, Coming to America is one of his 100 million grossers but he had one scene in it...I love Sam but if ya took it down to Ford V/S Jackson only counting movies where they were the or one of the main stars Harrison would probably still be in the lead by a good bit...
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Not to mention Ford has been able to make nearly as much while being in almost half as many movies. Good script selection.

Tom Hanks is right behind Ford and has been for awhile. I'd say by 2007, Hanks will have passed Ford.
BlackFlagg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Hanks will probably overtake him eventually as Harrison doesn't work as much anymore...but Indiana Jones 4 will certainly push his numbers up a good bit
Precious Roy Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Jackson's 100 mil grossers: Coming to America Jurassic Park Pulp Fiction Die Hard with a Vengeance A Time to Kill Star Wars Episode 1 Star Wars Episode 2 XXX SWAT Incedibles I give him no credit for CTA, JP or Incredibles. I didn't even know he worked on Incredibles. I don't really give him any credit on Star Wars, as they would have drawn with Bryant Gumble in his role. A Time To Kill and SWAT were ensamble pieces with several stars, and he co-headlined in DHWAV and XXX. I dig Jackson a lot, but the fact that he's at the top of this list is a total fluke. And honestly, I don't know anyone who paid to see XXX or SWAT
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I'm a Jackson fan, too, but I think a more fair way to compare those numbers is to use figures from movies an actor/actress was the top billing, or maybe even the top supporting role. But to say people went to see Jurassic Park because of SLJ is a little thin. I didn't even know he was in the Incredibles (going to buy it this weekend) -- heck, half the time when I see him in a movie I'm like "I didn't even know he was cast in this film..."
Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 If you put Ford and the movie's he's had to carry against Jackson's then there's no contest. Star Wars would have done just as well without him. The Pixar name sold the Incredibles, and the dinos sold Jurassic Park. And while he was great in Pulp Fiction, that was looked at as John's big come back movie. While I like Sam Jackson, I wouldn't call him the boxoffice king based on this alone.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I think a more accurrate way to look at SLJ is that if you produce a movie, it couldn't hurt to have him in it...
bob_barron Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Coach Carter made 66.3 mil on a 30 mil budget
Black Lushus Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 hmmm, now how much did Shaft bring in...I hated that movie, btw...
bob_barron Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Shaft made 70 million on a 46 mil budget
Black Lushus Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 so he can obviously carry a film on his own...I need to see if he's capable of carrying off "non-bad muthafucka" roles on his own, though...
Ripper Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Eve's Bayou did 15 million and it only played in about 650 theaters. That is a pretty kick ass total. In addition, that movie fucking ruled.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Now what about that film where he was in a kilt?...
Ripper Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 That movie was a bad dream that never existed.... FORGET...FORGET...FORGEEEEEEETTTTT!!! ... actually it was pretty good. I think it did well overseas. You should see it. EDIT: Upon further research, it bombed horribly. But still....decent movie.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Tell me what it was and I'll steer clear -- I think it had a number in it...
Black Lushus Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 as long as he doesn't do anymore Red Violin movies...
Ripper Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Tell me what it was and I'll steer clear -- I think it had a number in it... Formula 51. I suggest everyone sees Cavemans Valentine. He plays a crazy homeless guy and screams at buildings.
Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 187 sucked. If you want to know what his movies made check www.the-numbers.com
Ravenbomb Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 He wasn't badass in Changing Lanes and that was a good movie
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Will Smith is at 1.8 Billion in 16 movies, and his movies are almost consistently big hits
CBright7831 Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Jackson's 100 mil grossers: Coming to America Jurassic Park Pulp Fiction Die Hard with a Vengeance A Time to Kill Star Wars Episode 1 Star Wars Episode 2 XXX SWAT Incedibles And soon to be Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
