Guest Just Looking Report post Posted March 31, 2005 Does RobotJerk ever not oppose the majority on anything? Actually the majority of people will probably like this one. I can easily see this one being on MTV for the next few months. But yeah, the song is pretty fucking terrible. I don't really care for Weezer or have expectations of them, so I'm not disappointed. They're playing at the Playboy mansion.
Guest MissMattitude Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I don't mind it too much, I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it is. It's not as good as their older stuff though.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I guess it sounds nothing like the futureheads if it sucks, then. Ahem.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I'm a little amused that someone trashed Hash Pipe yet no one has trashed one of the silliest songs ever: The Sweater Song. When I first saw the video for that on 120 Minutes I thought it was one of the dumbest songs ever. I actually gave in and liked some of the Blue Album but it's hardly a great classic. Pinkerton is a good album but the totally different (and more adult) material on it alienated their fans. I might need to listen to the Green Album again but 4 years ago I recall liking it fairly well. Maladroit was certainly bleh however. The new song? It's....riveting! Gripping! I might even go so far as to say it's....mediocre!
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Update - I've now heard the song. The solo was funny.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I used to really like Weezer. The Blue Album was great, Pinkerton was awesome, Green Album was good. I haven't heard much of maladroit, but the singles were alright. This "Beverly Hills" song, however, sucked. I saw the video... It's slow, monotonous, unoriginal and boring. The solo is its only redeeming factor.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 Weezer has always been a steady, decent band but I think some tend to overrate them. I mean sure their blue album debut was a decent album but hell there were about 2 dozen better CDs in 1994 when it came out.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 I don't know. It's 11 years later and it still sounds a lot more fresh to my ears than anything else from the period. It stands the test of time and I think it is solid front to back. Well, ok..."Undone" is a little boring to me. But the rest is quality.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 It's starting to grow on me. Lyrics are better than some of the more recent Weezer stuff, but the music is awful.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 The track listing for "Make Believe": 1. Beverly Hills 2. Perfect Situation 3. This Is Such A Pity 4. Hold Me 5. Peace 6. We Are All On Drugs 7. The Damage In Your Heart 8. Pardon Me 9. My Best Friend 10. The Other Way 11. Freak Me Out 12. Haunt You Everyday I'll buy it, but I hope my opinion at the end of the day isn't "They should have named the album after the third track."

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2005 It's starting to grow on me. Lyrics are better than some of the more recent Weezer stuff, but the music is awful. I can't claim to recall too much of Maladroit, but there's no way this song's moronic, sub-Blink 182 doggerel is better.
Special K 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 I really hate that faux-Cake thing he's trying to do during the verses. It's awful. The Cake guy at least varies his intonation outside of two notes. The lyrics are crap too. The chorus ain't too bad.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Weezer's debut album is a nice little album and maybe worth a listen now and then, but it's hardly on the level with some of 1994's other releases. Green Day's "Dookie," Offspring's Smash," Soundgarden's "Superunknown," Nine Inch Nails' "The Downward Spiral." No way is Weezer's album on that level. IllustriousOne 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 I can't decide if this, or the NIN single is the worst single to come out this year.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Take a look at Weezer's debut. It only has 10 songs and really maybe 6 are any good. I'll give Sweater Song the benefit of the doubt and count that as a "good song" since it was a popular single, but after that you have Buddy Holly, a couple of nice songs at the beginning, and maybe Say It Ain't So. Most of the 2nd half of the album is mediocre. My thoughts on Weezer are summed as thus: They are a band that I can listen to along the lines of "That was a nice song" but not "Holy shit that was awesome!" PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Yeah, but I'd be the same with the other albums you listed, give or take. None of them, including Weezer, are among my favourite albums, but they are all a fine representation of their respective sub-genres of mid-nineties commercial rock. art_vandelay 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Take a look at Weezer's debut. My thoughts on Weezer are summed as thus: They are a band that I can listen to along the lines of "That was a nice song" but not "Holy shit that was awesome!" To put a "maybe" in front of Say It Ain't So in your analysis speaks VOLUMES about musical sensibility. I agree, however, that the Blue Album is not a classic, as some may suggest. If it came out today it certainly would not have that status. Maybe if some of the tracks were replaced with its b-sides (ie. Mykel & Carli, Susanne, Jamie). The band's greatest achievement will always be Pinkerton, which is what I largely attribute all the disappointment of the material since to. The Green Album is a totally decent pop record, minus the quality in the lyrics and thought put into its solos. I initially hated it because I was expecting the depth of a Pinkerton and was instead fed an - in comparison - totally superficial and predictable record. Listening to it 4 years later, however, it's actually got a lot of overlooked quality material, such as Smile and O Girlfriend. Hash Pipe, however, will always be a bad song in disguise. As alluded to earlier, the only reason it's as "good" as it is is because of the repetition it received from the band's hype stemming from their post-Pinkerton 5 year hiatus. Alright, maybe it's not such a bad song, just not good. But if you're gonna compare the band's post-Pinkerton releases, "Beverly Hills" is a much better song than that. It's just so popular these days to say "Weezer were so much better during Pinkerton" that I feel compelled to like this song in spite of all that, you know? It's like liking a Britney Spears song to me. And it's actually quite catchy. I'd even put it on the level of Undone. The chord progression is essentially the same. Exchange the choruses over each song. Same thing. I don't see how someone would like one but hate the other, aside from any previous attachment he/she may have to a song. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I like "Sweater Song". The cover band I'm in actually uses it as our intro song for all our sets. It's stupid, sure, but it's a fun tune. As for "Bevery Hills"...I just listened to it via Weezer's website...it didn't do too much for me...I wouldn't go so far as to say it's their worst song ever or anything. The lyrics sound like something Beck would write, or something. And the guitar solo reminds me too much of Steve Miller Band, or somet other seventies rock group. Just doesn't feel like a real Weezer song to me. Personally, I still think the Blue album and Pinkerton were their best albums. I liked the Green album quite a bit, too. Never bothered with Maladroit, as the singles never really grabbed me. Oh, and "Hash Pipe" was ok, but way overrated by a lot of people.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The horrible "gimme gimme" or whatever samples on the chorus of "Beverly Hills" instantly make it a lot more miserable than "Undone." It's also neither amusing nor idiosyncratic, which is half of Weezer's appeal anyway.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I don't see how anyone who likes Weezer would call "Undone" anything less than good.
art_vandelay 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I never meant to allude to Undone as being a bad song. My point was that the simplistic style and structures of the songs are very similar, and while come to think of it, Undone is superior in terms of nonsensical lyrical wit, musically speaking, it's not so far off from Beverly Hills, so I'd like to understand why there are such differences in the levels of hate/praise for each. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Saying you can't criticize one song but not the other because of similar structure is absurd. What similiarites? That they both employ verse-chorus-verse? So does the majority of the pop music canon.
Guest Syxx Report post Posted April 18, 2005 How can "Say it Ain't So", "In the Garage", and "Only in Dreams" (an epic) equate to a bad final half of the blue album? I like Dookie (not Green Day's best record though) but there is some filler on there as well. Also, Superunkown had tracks such as "Half" and "My Wave" which were no better than "Holiday" or "Surf Wax America". Smash was pretty damn tight though. art_vandelay 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 What similiarites? That they both employ verse-chorus-verse? So does the majority of the pop music canon. Is your knowledge of music that basic or do you just like to antagonize? Because you're pretty good at that. Chord progression, rhythm, employment of that same, simplistic, bare-instrumentational style with an anthemic chorus. The songs are alike, is all I'm saying. Hate one, love the other, hate both, I don't care. I really just wrote that offhandedly and didn't think it would be taken so seriously.
