What is your favorite WM, top to bottom, of all time? ----X-Seven. --The venue was terrific, and so were the matches. I knew Austin was turning heel, but the finish was still shocking. It gave me the feeling that I had witnessed something really memorable and really important. It wasn't just the world title changing hands, it was a huge development in the direction of the company. and it happened at their biggest show. That's how it ALWAYS should be. What is your least favorite WM of all time? ----WM 11. --The main event was a celebrity match featuring a retired football player and a midcarder. Plus they had too many celebrities, and too many backstage segments featuring them. When the biggest drama at a Wrestlemania is that no one knows where Pamela Anderson is, well, it doesn't make it very memorable. What is your favorite WM match? ----Hogan vs. Rock at X-8 is my favorite one to watch. Yes, the match itself was terrible, but I can't remember the last time I was so emotionally involved in a match. My friends and I were jumping and screaming all over the place, just like when we were 10 years old. ----Steamboat vs Savage from III is the best overall match, in my opinion. Tons of false finishes, plus the buildup to it was classic as well. What is your least favorite WM match? ----HHH vs. Booker T., WM XIX. --It wasn't that HHH won, it's HOW he won, and what happened to Booker T. afterwards. This match served no purpose other than to eliminate another one of HHH's threats, and it bothers me that they used Wrestlemania for that purpose, rather than doing something memorable. At least it was on the middle of the card, where it belonged. Name some honorable mentions for favorite match. ----Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior (VI). --One of the first matches I ever remember watching. Plus, like Rock/Austin at X-Seven, the ending signaled something important was happening, and made it something other than a World Title match. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (X). --The best opener ever, with one of the best buildups ever, and the match that made Owen Hart. If this were the exact same match on any other night, it wouldn't have had the same kind of impact. Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (XIII). --The placesetter for the next 5 or so years of the WWF. It's probably the only thing on the card people will talk about in 10 years. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock (X-Seven). --See my answer to the first question. The Gimmick Battle Royal (X-Seven). --Yes, the match was shit, but seeing all the old stars again, plus Bobby Heenan as sharp as ever, was awesome. Chris Benoit vs. HHH vs. Shawn Michaels (XX). --A great match, but the ending was the only time I have ever been in tears watching pro wrestling. A truly memorable moment that again, could only happen properly at Wrestlemania. What is your favorite WM venue? ----Any stadium--Pontiac Silverdome (III), Toronto Skydome (VI and X-8), Indianapolis RCA Dome (VIII), Houston Astrodome (X-Seven). --Wrestlemania is the biggest show of the year, and it should be held in a bigger venue than a episode of RAW. Every opening shot at each one of these venues was a "Whoa" moment for me. What is your least favorite WM venue? ----Trump Plaza (IV and V). --The actual venue wasn't too bad (I liked the staircase/ramp entrance), but the crowd seemed really out of it at both IV and V. Going in, which WM card do you think looked the best on paper? ----WM 10. --Bret/Owen, HBK/Razor ladder match, two title matches, etc. But what was best was the buildup of the EVENT itself. "Ten years in the making", back at MSG, etc. made Wrestlemania itself seem important again. The year before it was all about the "Roman Coliseum" of WM IX; two years eariler it was all about Hogan's "last match". For WM 10, they focused on the importance of the event itself, which I loved. Going in, which WM card do you think looked worst on paper? ----WM 11. --As great as WM 10 was, they followed it up the next year with this. Again, all the attention was on Bigelow/LT and the various celebrities taking part. It seemed like they were trying to sell to ordinary people, rather than pro wrestling fans. What do you think is the most underrated WM of all time? ----WM 6. --A famous main event and the venue was awesome. They should really bring back the motorized mini ring carts. What do you think is the most overrated WM of all time? ----WM 20. --Other than the 2 world title matches, there isn't anything great. ANOTHER Undertaker/Kane match? Yawn. Not one, but TWO Fatal 4 Way tag team title matches? Give me a break. Do I need to even mention Goldberg/Lesnar? Again, Benoit's victory was a great moment, but I haven't watched anything else on the card since. Seriously, my tape is still set on the 3 way main event. What is your favorite WM moment? ----The Bret Hart victory celebration at the end of WM 10. --As much as Benoit's victory at WM 20 affected me, I expected it. This I did not. I mean, I knew Bret would win, but all the faces parading him around the ring was a classic moment. It showed Vince has a heart when he wants to have one. What is your least favorite WM moment? ----Randy Savage needing Hulk Hogan's help to defeat Ted Dibiase at WM 4. --Everyone else seems to mention Hogan beating Yokozuna at WM 9, but this one overshadows that for me. Savage finds a way to win 3 different kinds of matches, but he can't win the big one without "The Hulkster" running in and saving him from certain defeat? It cut the legs out from under Savage as a credible champion, and just kept Hogan on top, even though he wasn't the champion. At least Randy got retribution four years later, as he won the title again and got to celebrate without Hogan posing in the background. Who would you pick as the top three Wrestlemania performers of all time? ----Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin --Hogan may suck as a wrestler, but no one else is more famous. --Shawn hasn't ever had a bad match at WM, in my opinion. I chose him over Bret because as much as Bret did, his last WM was 13. Shawn is still going, and has had just as many (if not more) classic matches. --Austin always seemed to me as the new Hogan. He wasn't the best wrestler (at least not after the OwenDriver), but he was extremely popular and a terrific character. ---I didn't list the Undertaker because even though he's "12-0", the last few years he's just been put on the card to extend and protect his streak, in my opinion. He hasn't done anything meaningful, and hasn't really seemed threatened at a Wrestlemania since X-Seven against HHH. How many of the previous 20 Wrestlemania's have you seen? ----All of them. What was the most surprising WM moment to you? ----Steve Austin NOT returning at WM 16 --I'm sure it's because he wasn't medically cleared yet, but WM 16 seriously ended badly because of it. It's almost like the ending was changed at the last minute because they COULDN'T get Austin. He should have showed up, unannounced, and done exactly what he did a month later at Backlash. That would have been a terrific moment, and the crowd would have gone batshit. Instead, we got a massive McMahon orgy and a heel winning in the main event for the first time ever. It shouldn't have happened that way. Who was your favorite "special guest" at a WM? ----Bob Uecker (III and IV). He really seemed to be having fun with it. Almost all of the other celebrities (except for Pete Rose) always seemed to have this "Ok, I'm making $50,000 to be here, let me act like I'm at least slightly interested" type of attitude. Andre choking him is classic. Which WM have you seen the most times? ----WM 3. --Mostly because of the crowd and the size of it all. It makes me really want to see the WWF/E reach that status again, instead of holding Wrestlemania in 15,000 seat arenas. Which WM commentary team was your favorite? ----Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon (I-VI) --Never annoying (unlike King/J.R.), always entertaining. Anything involving Heenan is great as well. Above all, what do you want to see at WM this year? ----Lots of wrestling, little soap opera drama. I'm not paying $50 to watch a 4 hour episode of RAW. Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted March 21, 2005 1) What is your favorite WM, top to bottom, of all time? For Top to bottom, it really is between 3. III, XVII and XIX. The rest of the WM had too many bad match, meaningless match, boring matches or all of the above. That being said, I would probably go with III. The obvious reason are Hogan/Andre and Steamboat/Savage. But I really loved the 6 man, for the booking and the match itslef. Plus, I always enjoy watching the Jake/Honky match for the finish. And a couple of underrated fun matches in Can Am Connection/ Orton & Muraco and Dream Team/ Rougeau's. 2) What is your least favorite WM of all time? WrestleMania 15. Russo just ruined it for me. Too many swerves going in. Too many crappy wrestlers. Not enough guys who could wrestle. It was just a giant trainwreck, and it just was annoying. 3) What is your favorite WM match? WM X Ladder match. Obviosuly this is a tough pick, as there is so many to choose from. But of all the matches, this match is the only one that I could watch as much as I want and still be into bell-to-bell and it will never get old. A true trend setter. 4) What is your least favorite WM match? HHH vs Jericho. It is the offical start of the HHH run with no Rock and Austin. It represenst everything that blows right now and is the signal of the shit that has been the HHH show. 5) Name some honorable mentions for favorite match: Bret-Piper WM 8 Savage-Falir WM 8 Bret-Owen WM 10 Triple Threat Ladder Match. WM 16 That would be my top 5, in no particular order. 6) What is your favorite WM venue? I loved the Hooiser Dome, but I gotta go with MSG. I think how it looked at WM XX was really awesome. I will never get tired of it. 7) What is your least favorite WM venue? I hated that crappy Chicago venue in WM 13. 8) Going in, which WM card do you think looked the best on paper? That is tough to say. Every year there is always crap booked. I guess XIX. 9) Going in, which WM card do you think looked worst on paper? Wrestlemania VII. Savage-Warrior sure proved me wrong. 10) What do you think is the most underrated WM of all time? WrestleMania VIII. Two FRICKIN AWESOME matches and a kick ass Snake promo. For WM, thats a good standard. 11) What do you think is the most overrated WM of all time? WM XVII, EASY. Benoit/Angle have had far better matches, so altho it was good, I have seen better between them. Taker-HHH was just a garbage brawl with no story to it. TLC 1 and the Ladder match at WM XVI was far better than TLC 2, as this one was really foreshadowed and overbooked to the nines. O yah, Rock-Austin was as forumla as humanly possible with a shitty finish. Plus the heel turn was a failure AND was stupidly done in Texas. 12) What is your favorite WM moment? No question, when Savage and Liz re-united at WM VII 13) What is your least favorite WM moment? Tough one. I don't know, I guess Hogan pinning Yokozuna at WM IX 14) Who would you pick as the top three Wrestlemania performers of all time? Shawn Micheals, Randy Savage and Bret Hart. Give Benoit a couple more years, and he bumps Savage. 15) How many of the previous 20 Wrestlemanias have you seen? All of them. Does this question mean live? 16) What was the most surprising WM moment to you? HHH retaining at XVI 17) Who was your favorite "special guest" at a WM? Mr Perfect at WM X. God I hated Luger, Perfect DQing him was awesome. 18) Which WM have you seen the most times? Wrestlemania 8 or 10. Its a toss up. 19) Which WM commentary team was your favorite? Gorilla and Jesse, no questions asked. 20) Above all, what do you want to see at WM this year? Chavo/London to get time to be good. I know I will get 3 good matches this year, but I want at least 4. Well, I want to see that they fixed up Batista v HHH, as their match tonight started unbelievably slowly --- the finish was OK (Batista kicked out of the belt shot of doom). That, and replace Christy in the Women's Title Match with Victoria and Molly (who put on a decent little match tonight) I'll avoid making a whole thread about tonight's show --- but Jesus, you know you're in a shitty crowd when they can't actually pull off a synchronized chant consistently. Great matches, some fun gimmick stuff (Vince/Shane, Battle Royal), and just an overall good show, aside from that short 6 Man Tag and the Women's Title match. Even Test had a good match here. 2) What is your least favorite WM of all time? XV. Complete garbage aside from the main event (which was still one of the worst Rock/Austin matches ever) and the somewhat fun Euro Title match. 3) What is your favorite WM match? Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin. This match saved the WWF from bankruptcy by creating the monster. It was brilliantly booked, and is the best WWF Brawl ever with the best ending to any match in North American history. 4) What is your least favorite WM match? Undertaker vs. Big Bossman. Everything that is wrong about Vince Russo and 1999 in general in one match with some of the worst commentary ever. 5) Name some honorable mentions for favorite match: Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon The Rock vs. Steve Austin (XVII) HHH vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage 6) What is your favorite WM venue? The Silverdome. Easily. 7) What is your least favorite WM venue? Arrowhead Pond. Notorious for crappy crowds and yet they put TWO Wrestlemanias there. 8) Going in, which WM card do you think looked the best on paper? XVII. There were so many good matches here that the only questions were with regards to timing issues. Rock/Austin, HHH/Taker, Benoit/Angle, TLC were four big time matches. 9) Going in, which WM card do you think looked worst on paper? XI. It was mainevented by Bam Bam & LT, and the WWF match featured the worst WWF Champion ever. Hart/Backlund & Jarrett/Razor were rematches in feuds that were dying a slow death. The most interesting thing was what Owen was doing and who his partner was going to be. 10) What do you think is the most underrated WM of all time? II. A great tag title match, another good tag match, a good battle royal, a good boxing match, and Hogan/Bundy did its job. A much better show than Wrestlemania I, yet this one gets more hate. It isn't a great Mania, but it is far from the worst that it is often credited as being. 11) What do you think is the most overrated WM of all time? XIV. Often considered to be in the top five Manias ever, there isn't much here aside from the memorable main event. And even that is overrated. Shawn & Austin had a better match the year before at KOTR. There isn't a lot of crap here, but nothing on the card gets above average. Middle of the road all the way. 12) What is your favorite WM moment? Chris Benoit wins the World Heavyweight Title and celebrates in the ring with Eddy Guerrero. One of the biggest markout moments for me ever. As I said at the time. They both could job their titles the next week in squash matches to the new Undisputed Champion Sylvan Grenier, and that moment would never be taken away. 13) What is your least favorite WM moment? There are two schools of thought on this one, so I will put them both. First, the moment that pissed me off the most, which was Hogan winning the WWF Title from Yokozuna at IX in a joke match. It turned Bret, Yoko & the title into jokes in a matter of seconds. The other is the moment which I thought was the stupidest thing I've seen in Wrestlemania history, which was the entire Butterbean/Bart Gunn fiasco. It is crap like that why wrestling is not respected in the US. 14) Who would you pick as the top three Wrestlemania performers of all time? 1 - Randy Savage. He has three absolute classics, one of which was with a terrible wrestler. He wrestled four matches in one night to become the first real champion other than Hogan in 4 years. He even had a decent going away party at X. He delivered when it came time for the big show. 2 - Steve Austin. Defined Wrestlemania in the late 90s/early 00s, and in a couple of classics in his own right. Even his lesser matches (like with Savio or Shawn) were pretty good. Aside from the disasterous Hall match, he did what he was there to do and more. 3 - Bret Hart. Wrestled in the two greatest matches in Wrestlemania history. After one of them he went on to win the WWF Title later that night. Even early on at II, III & IV he was a memorable part of the show. 15) How many of the previous 20 Wrestlemanias have you seen? Twenty. 16) What was the most surprising WM moment to you? Rick Rude winning the IC Title at V. I never saw that coming at all. 17) Who was your favorite "special guest" at a WM? Morton Downey Jr & Roddy Piper at V. One of the most memorable parts of the show. 18) Which WM have you seen the most times? V. One of my favourite Wrestlemanias and one that I have watched tons over the years. I used to watch it all the time as a kid. 19) Which WM commentary team was your favorite? Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura. It still isn't the same without them. 20) Above all, what do you want to see at WM this year? Batista demolish HHH for the World Title. He sounded like an ass, and the stuff they had him say was retarded. "Wrestlemania 9! The title on the line twice! Wrestlemania 10! Some retarded shit about ladders and the hitman!"
