Netflix vs. Blockbuster Online

I'm thinking about signing up to one of these services, so I'd like to hear some opinions from people that have experience with either or both.

My biggest concern, is about the selection.

Also, Blockbuster can be quite pushy if your queue is empty, which is odd considering you pay a flat fee every month, not like you are paying per movie or something, which I can see sending "Your queue is almost empty" emails over

Netflix never sends emails at any point to remind you about such things

Don't let the mail service fool you, it's still just Blockbuster. Plus, Netflix carries import DVDs. Just one so far that I know of, but it's a precedence that Blockbuster doesn't have

Netflix also has Asian horror and more foreign films overall, which has me leaning towards them.

I was also concerned about Blockbuster Online carrying unrated or NC-17, which I believe their stores don't carry.

Go with Netflix. They lord it over Blockbuster big time; better selection, better service, and they aren;t afraid to drop their monthly rates below Blockbuster's, either.

Then why is Blockbuster cheaper? Netflix does offer an $11.99 package, but it is very restrictive. When it comes to the deal that Blockbuster offers, Netflix is a couple bucks more.

Netflix has a bigger selection and their service is faster/better. If you have to shell out a couple of extra bucks, who cares? If you pay for cheap service, that's exactly what you'll get. I've never had a problem with Netflix. If they send you the wrong DVD, they promptly ship you the right one, same as if a disc comes scratched all to hell and won't work.

Plus, all the anime and foreign films is way worth it. I don't think I would've witnessed the greatness that is Audition and Battle Royale from Blockbuster.

I use blockbuster mainly because my work computer has Netflix blocked. I get pretty swift service from blockbuster, and have yet to think of a movie that was not available. I did receive one movie that was snapped in half, which I returned and was replaced no questions asked. Absolutely 0 complaints so far.

Netflix has Battle Royale? Wow, isn't that an import.

Do you people no longer drive?

I don't do video stores. Period.

So, that's the import you were talking about. Now to think of it, I do remember you talking about it on SNKT I think.

Who cares about driving, when you get unlimited rentals for the price of 3 rentals at a store. Not having to drive to the store is just a perk.

I perfer to drive 1/2 a mile and get my free unlimited amount of dvds rather then trust any on-line service where i have to pay.

I for one, support Blockbuster.

This has nothing to do with my current place of employment.

Than you, sir, are my enemy.

It all really depends upon how many movies you rent during a given month. I think the basic Netflix package is something like unlimited movies (although you may be limited to only being able to check out something like three movies at a time) for around 16 or 17 bucks a month. Given that most DVD rentals cost around 4 bucks, you'd need to check out around 4 movies a month to break even.

The two instore rentals at Blockbuster do it for me. At almost $7 a pop for game rentals, it pays for itself every month for just the two game rentals . My main problem, Im running out of movies to watch. There hasn't really been anything I would want to rent that has come out over the last 2 months or so, and between October and say..uh..January..I think I rentered every single new release, releatively new release (within the last year) that I wanted to see. Also, with the new 2 week thing instore, there never seems to be any games worth even renting. For the most part, Im stuck renting movies like Taxi to at least keep movies coming. At some point, Im gonna have to cancel. and when I do..I think I'll start up one of those adult DVD rental services (I saw one, 2 out for $15 a month).

pfft. I get twice that, easy.

'Course, I watch the movie, copy it, and send it back the next day

See, this is why I love Netflix. Everytime I sign on to the site, I get a good few recommendations for flicks I haven't seen related to the ones I like. Everytime I hear about a movie on here also, for example, I hit up Netflix and add it to my queue, and then it keep recommending more movies so every visit to Netflix has me adding a good 4-5 extra movies to the queue.

And I only have the 3 at a time program, so my queue is at 184 movies at the moment... not including the ones that haven't been released yet and I have in the 'Saved' category.
