And if the Yankees come back and win this game, which even though its 6-3, I still doubt, chalk this gamne up on the "turning point" game of the season. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Broom time in Baltimore, O's win 8-4 to sweep the Yanks. The Orioles are a stunning 5-1 to start the season versus the Yankees. Line-up continues to show great potential and Cabera looked solid which couldn't be said for his first two starts. Lots of positives and if they can remain playing good hard played baseball then maybe third place and above .500 isn't out of the question for Baltimore. Long way to go but some good things there. I didn't realize that it was ever out of the question. They finished in third last year and did improve the team (even if it was minimal) during the off season, so to me, not finishing third would be disappointing. As for .500, I thought coming into the season that they had a pretty good shot at getting over .500 (most odds places have them finishing slightly over .500). I still think they are going to have to play above their heads to get into second place or any sort of serious playoff contention, but it would almost seem like a disappointing season if they finish below .500 and below 3rd place. Yeah, that was my expectation going into the season; something like 82-80, maybe 85-77. The way they're playing right now, it makes me think that contending for the wild-card isn't out of the question. I mean we all knew their lineup was good enough to compete. If they can just pitch decently well, they should be really good. They're 8-4 right now, tied for the best record in the American League, and coming off a sweep of the Yankees. The post Dead Ball era record appears to be 36, set by Bob Feller in 1946. The most in the last 25 years was 28 by Rick Langford, for Billy Martin's Oakland Athletics.
