2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Ok, six runs, eight hits with two of those hits being homers....why is Kevin Brown still in the game for the Yankees?
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Did anyone see that hit Maddux just had? It could've been two, but since he was sort of jogging, it should've just been a single. But for some insane reason, he just kept running like he wanted to be thrown out.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Apparently the Yankes plan on leaving Brown out to dry up to 100 pitches because in the 2nd week of the season their bullpen is overused and spent. Wow...
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Or they want Kevin to work some innings, regardless of how well he does.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I guess that makes sense...in a Triple A rehab assignment kind of way.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I've heard that said by tons more people than Brenly. Those people are wrong. No team should ever prefer to not have an inning end, because of who the batter is.

But for some insane reason, he just kept running like he wanted to be thrown out. Yeah he jogged to first and then decided to try and get two. If he had been running full speed, he would've had the double, but I guess he has a sore foot.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 In Brown defense, hes pitched very well since the first two innings. And if the Yankees come back and win this game, which even though its 6-3, I still doubt, chalk this gamne up on the "turning point" game of the season. mike546 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I know the record must be pretty damn big considering how long pitchers used to go in games, but is there any modern day record for complete games in a season?
Cartman 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Screw the Marlins I hope all these CG's burn out and injure their rotation... *Bitter about Mota never being used for saves
Mik 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Game. 2nd straight complete game for AJ. Dontrelle pitches tomorrow against Washington. Guillermo Mota has had exactly 0 save opportunities this year.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Broom time in Baltimore, O's win 8-4 to sweep the Yanks. The Orioles are a stunning 5-1 to start the season versus the Yankees. Line-up continues to show great potential and Cabera looked solid which couldn't be said for his first two starts. Lots of positives and if they can remain playing good hard played baseball then maybe third place and above .500 isn't out of the question for Baltimore. Long way to go but some good things there. MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Sweep for the Cardinals. Jason Marquis has pitched tremendous thus far. Only 1 earned run in each game he's pitched. And Pujols and Rolen are coming around, good series for both of them.
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Lots of positives and if they can remain playing good hard played baseball then maybe third place and above .500 isn't out of the question for Baltimore. I didn't realize that it was ever out of the question. They finished in third last year and did improve the team (even if it was minimal) during the off season, so to me, not finishing third would be disappointing. As for .500, I thought coming into the season that they had a pretty good shot at getting over .500 (most odds places have them finishing slightly over .500). I still think they are going to have to play above their heads to get into second place or any sort of serious playoff contention, but it would almost seem like a disappointing season if they finish below .500 and below 3rd place. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 From The Stein: "Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed as I'm sure all Yankee fans are by the lack of performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win, and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff, and the team to turn this around." I'm absolutely shocked that Womack, Wright and Pavano aren't repeating their career years so far. Absolutely stunned.

Yeah, that was my expectation going into the season; something like 82-80, maybe 85-77. The way they're playing right now, it makes me think that contending for the wild-card isn't out of the question. I mean we all knew their lineup was good enough to compete. If they can just pitch decently well, they should be really good. They're 8-4 right now, tied for the best record in the American League, and coming off a sweep of the Yankees. I'm going to enjoy it, damn it.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I know the record must be pretty damn big considering how long pitchers used to go in games, but is there any modern day record for complete games in a season? The post Dead Ball era record appears to be 36, set by Bob Feller in 1946. The most in the last 25 years was 28 by Rick Langford, for Billy Martin's Oakland Athletics. The team was famous for their starters' overuse, and not surprisingly the pitching collapsed not long after.

Guest Smues Report post Posted April 18, 2005 Atlanta/Philly has been a great game for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Well, other then the retarded music segment with Collective Soul. Other than that, and the fact I think Kolb is about to allow the winning run, this has been great. Two great pitching duels in as many days in Philly. Huzzah. Guest Smues Report post Posted April 18, 2005 ahh crap and it's Thome batting. I've been fearing all night that the winning run would be Thome hitting his first home run of the season, please please prove me wrong Jim.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 Tough situation, Al. Your Phillies are gonna win, but it's going to be by bunting, with Joe Morgan in the booth chuckling with glee at small ball being better than Moneyball.
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 18, 2005 That bunt just died on the grass.
Guest Smues Report post Posted April 18, 2005 So first he walks 2 runners, then gets the ball off a bunt with time to get the runner at 3rd, but instead throws it a mile over chipper's head, and then can't get the next bunt in time to get anybody and it's 1-1 bases loaded with 0 outs. Gee I wonder who is going to win this game.
