Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 And Brian Roberts is the next Brady Anderson...err..well I cant see Roberts hitting 50 HRs but its still a power surge completely out of nowhere. As long has Roberts doesn't start to try too hit HR's, he should be fine.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The ump in Pittsburg sure hasn't ever heard of an outside corner. Cubs not getting ANY pitches called out there tonight and now the bases are loaded in the 8th. *sigh* Can't this team ever just win sans drama?
treble 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The Jays are doing awesome and everything, but I've never seen a team that's doing well have so many rallies die when the 3 and 4 hitters come up. Thankfully, everyone else is picking up the slack now, but Wells and Koskie have been horrible so far this year. 3-0 in Texas right now in the 6th and Chacin has been doing really well again. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Things were playing out as usual; Hawkins has a one-run lead, gets two outs, and then gives up a single, which parlays into an error, because Jose Macias was put into left field for some reason. Thankfully Hawkins got Bay to ground out for the save. Games with the Bucs shouldn't be this nervewrecking. A funny exchange between me and Al: DoctorofStyle85: Double switch; took out Hollandsworth. DoctorofStyle85: In comes Macias. DoctorofStyle85: Dubois; who the hell is that? alkeiper: if its defensive, its understandable Not two minutes later, Macias makes an error on a clean single. Apparently picking up a ball and throwing it in is a task in and of itself.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 In my defense, I then looked up Macias and saw that he was an average defender at best. DuBois is worse though. But there is no reason that DuBois should not be starting for the Cubs right now. Contrast the Cubs with the Athletics, who handed rookie Nick Swisher the right field job, and watched him score the winning run against the Angels today. treble 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Shit, I wonder how often this has happened. Reed Johnson is hit by a pitch for the 3rd time today (which is a franchise record), and the 2nd time with the bases loaded. Oh, and case in point, Wells stikes out with the bases loaded (after grounding into a double play last time he was up in the same situation). Koskie did single in 2 runs, though, so it's not all bad. 7-0 in the 8th, and I'm really pissed now that I 'forgot' to start Chacin in the H2H fantasy league. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The more I see John Lieber win, and its three in a row now, the more I'm totally saddened we didn't resign him. Lieber's a national league pitcher, and besides the Yankees picked up the 17th overall pick in the draft...they lost their own first round choice. But, they do need to consider rebuilding their farm system.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 True. But the lack of pitchers being able to pitch good in a Yankee uniform is big these days, and Lieber did a damned well job.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 He did? I seriously, can't remember how Lieber pitched for the Yankees. I believe he beat the Twins, or started Game 2 and pitched well.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Beside El Duque, he was basically our ace the 2nd half of the season. Coming of surgery, he kept geting better and better and better as the season went on, and lead the Yankees with 14 wins. He pitched great aginst the Twins, out dueled Pedro in game 2, and pitched very well against Schilling in game 6. Most immportantly, he OWNED the Sox during the season, also going 8 and 2/3rds against them in September. I don't care hes 34, I'd take 2 more years of him than shaking my head in disbelief with Jarret Wrights bad control, and hopeing he doesn't get injured every second. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The Wright signing was just plain idiotic. He was a Mazzone Pitcher last year. To think, someone with all of Wright's past troubles to leave imo the best pitching coach in Baseball and go to the New York Yankees. You're asking for trouble. mike546 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 The only thing that hes impressed me with is the fact he won't give in and die whwn he gets in jams like Contreras and Weaver. He battled against the Sox, and somehow got a win.
treble 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Who is this Bluejay pitcher Chacin? Gustavo Chacin. Pitched mostly in AA last year, but was called up in September and pitched well in 2 starts (winning in Yankee Stadium in his first one) and made the team in spring training when they put Batista in the bullpen and cut Billy Koch. the max 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I would have, had I been able to watch the game. It was blacked out on Extra Innings, as Tampa's games usually are for me, but then it wasn't aired by FSN like it normally is. Buncha assholes.

They thought paying him 8 million a year was too much, and that he was only worth 5-6 million. Thats before the Mets fucked up everything with Benson, and hs price went way up. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 It's amazing what some teams can do with a two-out walk. And why the hell is Hollandsworth still playing leftfield? Maddux got two outs, gave up a cheap hit to the pitcher, and the Matt Lawton hit a ball down the leftfield line the Holly just gave up on because he figured it was going to go foul. 'Cept it dropped in fair ground. They've since tacked on two runs.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 According to Bob Brenly you'd rather the pitcher get out with two outs...than reach base. Fired managers make the best analysts. Oh come on, Bob Brenly is the John Madden of baseball announcers. You rather your pitcher did get out with two outs since that means you'd have the top of your order coming up. I've heard that said by tons more people than Brenly.
