Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 I figured I might as well finally make use of my broadband connection and download some music. I had been buying CDs at Best Buy (paying no more than $9.99 each) but now I'm broke again and I will have to make due with downloading CDs I want until I can afford legitimate copies of the good ones. At the same time, as a music lover and a songwriting musician, I wish to expose myself to new music (rather than schoolgirls) and expand my tastes. I'm also hoping that some new stuff will help me shake off this long running writer's block I've been experiencing. I know a lot of people here listen to bands I've never heard of, which is great, but feel free to recommend stuff by more "mainstream" artists as well if you feel that the music is good. Genre and time of release are unimportant. If you can provide the material for download or give a link, that'd be even better. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Thanks. I have a feeling that the Journey thing is a joke, but they're not half bad for what they are. I like Ravi Shankar and Frank Zappa from what I've heard. The others... no clue, which is what I wanted. New stuff. Also, for the metalheads and maybe some others- I love a good heavy song, but I can't stand constant growling and no melody. The songs have to have some sort of melody, and for metal, at least alternate between growling and actual singing. At least, that's how I feel based on everything I've heard up to this point. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Buddy Rich and Miles Davis are my favorite jazz artists. I like a lot of Dave Brubeck as well. Maynard Ferguson is a fantastic player if you can look past the fact that he did some pretty cheesy stuff in the 70s. Don Ellis is pretty obscure, but he wrote this great song called "Strawberry Soup" that is like 17 minutes of just crazy orchestral jazz. I can send you that. Also Genesis, but do not go past the Album Seconds Out because their quality of albums suck. Get the rap ones I told you about, Jungle brothers might not be readily available but Geto Boys most certainly are. Was, not was track is pretty funny. This one's not a bad ballad, Ivan Neville - Why Can't I Fall In Love Bauhaus - crowds; this one is sad but in a pissed off way.
