Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 From http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/spo...m(subscription) Providence, S. Meck pinned with fines Altercation will cost schools $1,000 each, the NCHSAA maximum LANGSTON WERTZ JR. Staff Writer The N.C. High School Athletic Association has fined South Mecklenburg and Providence $1,000 each, the maximum allowable, for a fight involving wrestlers from both schools at the N.C. 4A Western Regional event in February. The fines stem from a match involving Providence's Reid Fliehr, son of professional wrestler Ric Flair, and South Meck's Colby Hardin. According to regional tournament director Tom Harper, the match between the wrestlers went into sudden death overtime. Hardin, who eventually lost in the regional championship final, performed an escape move that gave him a point and an immediate win against Fliehr. Then, according to Harper and NCHSAA officials, Hardin celebrated by performing a move used by Flair in WWE matches -- a strut walk -- that apparently upset Fliehr, who moved toward Hardin. Two South Mecklenburg wrestlers rushed onto the mat along with two from Providence and several spectators. Harper said match officials handled the incident well. "It was started and finished in a matter of seconds," said Harper, athletics director at Alexander Central High. " ... It was bad for wrestling, but it was taken care of immediately and I felt like it was handled in a very classy and organized way." Harper said Fliehr and several other participants were ejected. After reviewing tape and interviewing officials, NCHSAA deputy executive director Que Tucker sent a stern letter to both schools, notifying them of the fine and ordering the participating wrestlers to be suspended from the first two matches of the 2005-06 season or to serve an immediate suspension if they were seniors playing spring sports. South Mecklenburg athletics director David Collins said one of the athletes was suspended for three track meets plus two wrestling matches. A second wrestler was given a verbal warning plus the suspension. Collins said the third was banned from all school activities and athletics events throughout the current school year and will serve the suspension next winter. Providence AD Alan Grogan said one of his school's wrestlers was a senior and doesn't play spring sports. The other will serve his penalty next wrestling season. He said Fliehr got a two-match suspension for his ejection and that the school tacked on an additional match for his involvement in the fight. "We have a budget for the year that comes down to the last dollar," Grogan said of his $120,000 athletics budget. At South Mecklenburg, Collins said his wrestling team would not get new singlets next year in order to cover the fine. "It's a huge blow for us," Collins said. "Our past year's budget was in the $40,000 range and the fine will have to come out of the wrestling team's portion. I'm not going to penalize the baseball or softball team for something done by the wrestling team." Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools athletics director Vicki Hamilton said it's the first time in her 10 years local schools have received the maximum penalty. Hamilton said CMS might implement new rules outlining where fans can sit during matches and limiting personnel near competition areas.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Seems like a pretty harsh penalty...I mean, unless I misunderstood, it sounds like there wasn't any actual fighting or contact after the match between the two of them? On one hand, I think it's good that the governing board penalized both schools so things like this don't happen again. On the other, I don't see why they have to fine both schools over it. It sucks the one team won't be able to get new uniforms because of it.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Reid's either going to end up in jail or a WWE ring--maybe both. You just know it. I swear the kid's gotta be on roids. I remember when he was just a cute little kid, and then during the Flair/Taker match--GEEZ, he certainly grew up.
Guest Nater Report post Posted April 28, 2005 They get that much money just towards their Physical Education department? Most schools in California get about that much for their combined alotment. Plus, dont fake the funk on a nasty dunk. If you won by a point earned from an escape, then its nowhere near the pin/hold point.

Aw come on man, are you telling me that if you beat Flair's own son in a wrestling match you wouldn't do the exact same thing? I know for damn sure that I would. Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted April 28, 2005 I heard two guys on the radio here in Charlotte who were at the match and they both had basically the same story. They said the kid who strutted was totally out of line, and classless. They said Reid actually freaked out, broke free from a big group of people, and landed a pretty big punch to the guy's face. At this point, things were getting chaotic with people booing, tying to break it up, etc. Both guys said the worst thing of all was how Ric Flair acted. They said he was getting up in people's faces doing the whole "you want a piece of me" bit, and using a lot of foul language. I can't find any news report that says Ric was even there, but that's what the two guys on the radio said.

Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 The only thing that could make this story any better would be if Ric had put the kid that beat his son in the Figure 4, all the while yelling: "YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE MAN, TO BE THE MAN YOU GOTTA RIDE SPACE WOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAIN AND BEAT THE WOOOOOOOOOO MAN WOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOO". Guest BobbyWhioux Report post Posted April 28, 2005 Reid Flair was totally out of line. He shouldn't have punched that other kid in the face. He should've gotten Arn and Tully to jump him in the parking lot.
