Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 My local grocery store, aptly named "Tiajuana" by everybody(even those who inspired the name), sells Lil Homies in a gumball machine. They are truly the shoddiest figurines I've ever seen.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 Guy that did one of my tattoos had a poster of the "Lil Homies" up in his shop, listed every single on of them...is it me or is there a Smiley, Joker, and Angel in every group of Mexican thugs?

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 Well, to be honest, I've met plenty of African-Americans and hispanics who do fit such stereotypes, and those are probably the ones who buy the stuff. But the majority of my black and hispanic friends are articulate and intelligent, the way you are, and if I'm offended by this stuff when I'm white, I can only imagine how people of other races must feel about the way their cultures are being depicted. LatinAssasin 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 I've heard that 'sell out' phrase a few times. In Spanish they say 'tienes la aguila en la frente' literally meaning that I've got the eagle from the Mexican flag on my forehead. Just a way of saying that I'm obviously Mexican so I should act 'Mexican'. My kid sister loves these bratz dolls, but they really seem ghetto. It's a shame since my sister is going to a private school and all, but it's in the ghetto part of town, so now she's picking up all the ghetto habits. Those Lil Homies figures piss me off as well. Then I see young thugs getting them, thinking they're the coolest things ever. It drives me nuts seeing my race just filling out every stereotype.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 I have already expressed my thought on the Bratz dolls and how there is nothing wrong with them at ALL in my eyes, but the lil homiez dolls are really fucked up.
Guest CronoT Report post Posted April 29, 2005 At first, I was offended by those Homies toys too. But, I've since stopped caring. The only way those things could conceivably still be around is if people are buying them. If those idiots want to reinforce those stupid and insulting stereotypes, more power to them. Also, and I'm not a conspiracy nut, but has anyone else noticed that the main symbol for those Bratz dolls seems to be an upside-down star, like the kind devil worshippers use? The only reason I noticed it, was because I had to work in Toys for 6 weeks after I was put on light duty about 18 months ago.

Yes. Yes you are. And unfortunately my curiousity has been mildly piqued, so if you could put up an image of the infernal pentagram then it would be sated, however it's only mildly piqued so I'm not looking for it. Guest CronoT Report post Posted April 29, 2005 Well, here's the best example I could find. However, I do remember a make-up mirror or something, where the refelctive surface was an upside-down star. [EDIT]-I found it.

Guest jm29195 Report post Posted May 1, 2005 I work in a big toy retailer in the UK and the Bratz merchandise was hands down the best seller over last Christmas- What everyone seems to have missed with the mirror is that it's also a cd player, the Beauty Boom Box I believe- yours for only £24.99! Personally I don't see how buying dolls dressed like little slappers can have anything but a negative effect on the consumer, but hey they shift big units so don't argue with marketing trends! I mean look at them. They aren't half naked, they are quite fully dressed actually, so what is the problem. I remember in the last thread your problem with them was that they wore alot of eye make-up, thus making them sluts or whatever, but besides that, how is this close to the same level as Mexican Gang member toys? AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 http://www.mgae.com/2004_product_pages/Pro...zSecretDate.asp Perfectly innocent. And remember, they drink *smoothies*. Nothing alcoholic, no. And how dare you cast aspersions on the Lil' Homiez, Ripper. For all you know they could be fine, upstanding members of their community with dreams of going to college and makin' a difference, yo. What kind of RACIST!~ are you anyway? And yet another doll convincing little girls to be obsessed with fashion and appearance isn't really a good thing. Ripper 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 http://www.mgae.com/2004_product_pages/Pro...zSecretDate.asp Perfectly innocent. Actually, what isn't innocent about the two pictures that you just posted. The dolls in sundresses(the one on the far left shows the dress where it actually goes...to her knees....THAT FUCKING HARLOT!!!!!!) and the baby one...its a fucking baby. Aside from the eyes(which is the dolls brand trademark) it is pretty much the exact same representation that babies have ever gotten in cartoons. And how dare you cast aspersions on the Lil' Homiez, Ripper. For all you know they could be fine, upstanding members of their community with dreams of going to college and makin' a difference, yo. What kind of RACIST!~ are you anyway? I'll just let you have your fun there And yet another doll convincing little girls to be obsessed with fashion and appearance isn't really a good thing. NEWS FLASH!!!!! GIRLS LIKE PLAYING DRESS UP WITH LITTLE DOLLS. It has been this way since forever. HUNDREDS of years of Girls playing dress up with dolls. Its not teaching them shit. They are being little girls. That statement is like saying GI Joes, Transformers, and every toy marketed to boys in the 80's and 90's were a bad thing because it once again taught little boys to be obsessed with violence. They are toys. All this time and you still haven't shown a single thing negative about these dolls except that they are SLUTS for being fully dressed and wearing makeup, which I am sure was very true in Puritan times, but not so true now. I am still wondering how Barbie Doll and every other doll ever = Okay But little bug eyed dolls with huge feet and baggie clothes is destroying the youth because they are stank lil hoe bags. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 the one on the far left shows the dress where it actually goes...to her knees....THAT FUCKING HARLOT! The only one that does. 2 and 4 are practically to the crotch. it is pretty much the exact same representation that babies have ever gotten in cartoons. the site: "these Babyz™ already know how to flaunt it," That's just creepy. Plus, little babies wearing makeup is just wrong. I'll just let you have your fun there So, it's okay to base assumptions around dolls based on their appearance, except when they're stereotyping your demographic? Gotcha. That statement is like saying GI Joes, Transformers, and every toy marketed to boys in the 80's and 90's were a bad thing because it once again taught little boys to be obsessed with violence. The ones shooting laser guns with goofy characters like Shipwreck? I find the fact that they were 30 minute blocks of commercials disguised as entertainment to be malicious enough by itself, personally.
