CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 I say, when the NHL does, Bertuzzi should. Here's why: 1) Bertuzzi is not a cold blooded psycho the media has made him out to be. Morre said something to him before Bertuzzi hit him. 2) Bertuzzi's apology seemed very genuine. 3) Hasn't he suffered enough? He missed the playoffs, which, ultimately, would have stopped Calgary(What, he wouldn't have scored one goal, which in the end became the difference) as well as what is now two Worlds and a World Cup. He lost six figures of pay in that time, and will have to give more when Moore, in all likelihood, sues him. But I'm calling for re-instatement Tuesday or Wednesday. Bertuzzi wiell lace em up for Canada this May, mark my words.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 Bertuzzi got too much shit. I don't think he's some awful guy or anything. (But I did like seeing the Flames advance to the Cup finals. I'm glad it wasn't SJ.)
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 I've seen worse hits. If the NHL wants to stop this goonery they should announce that cheap shots like Bert's will not be tolerated and then back those words up with actions. Of course the NHL has to play some actual GAMES in order to do this. I found it funny Mike Wilbon of PTI made John out to be public enemy #1 yet tried to defend John Chaney for sending that goon in on that other team's kid, breaking his arm... I'm glad it wasn't SJ.) I fail to see what the Flames have to do with it. The NHL shouldn't even think about Bertuzzi until there's a new CBA. That's the number one priority right now: if there's no agreement, Bertuzzi should be S.O.L. His actions merit that much.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 I'd guess Calgary benefited from Vancouver not being at full strength during the playoffs. Say 15 games whenver the NHL starts playing again.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 I fail to see what the Flames have to do with it. Bertuzzi certainly would have made a difference in the Westerm quarters. It came down to one goal, which I'm certain Bertuzzi would have a few of.

It came down to one goal, which I'm certain Bertuzzi would have a few of. But are you sure about that? Kippy was killing every team he faced after he joined Calgary. I find it hard to believe that Bertuzzi would've instantly helped the Canucks to stopping Calgary. All it would've done is sent it into a very long series. That's about it. Calgary still would've moved onto the Finals. As for Bertuzzi, yeah he fucked Moore up good. But how is this being fair to him? I mean, as everyone pointed out, he's lost paychecks, he's missed out on World Cups and the playoffs. He's probably going to be sued and of course will lose, cause even though there is a chance that this shit happens, Moore will win his lawsuit against Bertuzzi (however, if I was a judge, I would not find Bertuzzi liable, but instead the NHL for allowing such shit to happen). Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 Somebody always has to be first in line to my a martyr, in this case, it's Todd. His is the example that needs to be set. If it happened on the street he'd have a criminal record right now. Fairness is allowing Bertuzzi to go back to doing his job when Moore can go back to doing his. Anything less is an insult to Steve, his family and his fans.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2005 I don't get how Bertuzzi can get all this shit thrown upon him when the NHL has had a history of this kind of behavior going on... The only reason Bertuzzi gets this claim is: 1) He's a league star. 2) It looks pretty damn brutal of a hit. 3) More PC World we live in. Somebody always has to be first in line to my a martyr, in this case, it's Todd. His is the example that needs to be set. If it happened on the street he'd have a criminal record right now. Fairness is allowing Bertuzzi to go back to doing his job when Moore can go back to doing his. Anything less is an insult to Steve, his family and his fans. But if Moore sues Bertuzzi how is that right? If Bertuzzi doesn't work and loses the settlement, he'll be pretty fucked over till Moore gets back on the ice. Because he can't pay the ludicrious sum that Moore of course will ask. Worse, what happens if Bertuzzi can't go back to work cause Moore will never be able to return? How the hell do you condone that? I mean, yes it was a pretty bad hit. But as was said, there were plenty of worse hits and shit that go on yet not a damn soul gave a fucking care to those. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2005 I never heard you people bitch about the one guy going down on an ugly and blatant hit and going "oooh... the guy needs to be gone until the injuried person is back". So what changed now? Is it because he was carried off in a stretcher? Was it the fact that it looked gory as fuck? Because you know, the Bookaboom hit (shut up, I can't spell his name) didn't seem to call up for as much "oh my God, Bookaboom should return when the person he hit did". Another cheap shot I remember that would be all on Mike Wilbon's shit list was Dale Hunter on (I think) Pierre Turgeon back in '93... Oh, so its because Bertuzzi's got an easy name then? Well, fuck that idiotic bullshit. Seriously, kick him out for half of the next season, but ban him till Moore comes back and if Moore can't come back, you basically kill Bertuzzi's career and you make the entire fucking league a bunch of kiddes. Why a bunch of scrawny little kiddies? Because instead of checking the fuck out of people you'll either get even more clutching and grabbing because people will be worried about dishing out hits. And yes, I know that Bertuzzi was gooning, but people will back off on the checking as worried for causing an injury that's going to cause this type of backlash and go with the "safer" way out. Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted May 1, 2005 If it happened on the street he'd have a criminal record right now. Every night, something in hockey is illegal on the streets. Far worse was done last year as physical acts. But Moore is the only one who got seriosuly hurt. Thats a bad arguement.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2005 Bertuzzi should be back on the ice playing, but the real person to blame about this attack is Tony Granato. (and he's known for some pretty cheap hits)
treble 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2005 I think the problem with the 'Bertuzzi should come back when Moore comes back' argument is that Moore was a fringe player, at best, and it's entirely possible that were there a season this year and had he not been hurt that he wouldn't be playing anyway. Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 I think the problem with the 'Bertuzzi should come back when Moore comes back' argument is that Moore was a fringe player, at best, and it's entirely possible that were there a season this year and had he not been hurt that he wouldn't be playing anyway. That should have nothing to do with it. The bottom line is that hockey is a violent sport. Was it a cheap shot? Yes. Does anyone think that Bertuzzi's intent was to paralyze Moore? I sincerely hope not. That is the main thing that I think people need to consider when they say things like "Bertuzzi should be out until Moore comes back" or whatever. It was a freak accident during the course of a cheap shot. He's paid his penalty and it's time for him to be reinstated. By the way, does anyone think that he doesn't feel guilty about it? I'd be willing to bet that he does.

Far worse was done last year as physical acts. But Moore is the only one who got seriosuly hurt. Thats a bad arguement. Rrrsh, you beat me to it. There are a ton of things that are illegal in the 'real world' that are just two or 5 minute penalties on the ice. To compare the two environments is pointless. Bertuzzi was suspended for too long as it is ... he suffered for the same reason that McSorley did: because of the end result. If Moore skates away with just a concussion or something, Bertuzzi gets a handful of games, tops. Same with Brashear/McSorley ... if Brashear takes the tap and turns and fights Marty, McSorley gets nothing but a 5 minute major and an asskicking (well, technically he probably would get a game misconduct, but certainly not a 20+ game suspension). Bertuzzi should be reinstated as soon as the new season is announced.
