Of course, this is the team the Yanks scored 13 in an inning against, so I should quiet myself. Yeah, but unlike that game, The Boss didn't just issue one of his trademark statements. First two batters were put down by fly balls to the warning track and one of those was Al Leiter, and now they've put up 5 runs all with 2 outs. Hampton isn't gonna make 5 innings. The Cards already hold a five-game lead in the division and with the way the Cubs' health and performances have been so far, it might not even be close this year. If Ramirez comes around then what else is the excuse? No way his poor season so far has been the reason the Cubs have faltered. The rotation is a mess and as inconsistent as I can remember; the offense outside of Lee is rubbish and let's face it, Lee's BA will probably drop at least another 100 points before it's all said and done. ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2005 The White Sox pulled out another one run game, 5-4 over the Royals, despite Mike Sweeney hitting 2 home runs (including one that was a very low pitch, a ridiculously sweet home run by a very good player). Iguchi was on fire, hitting his first MLB HR and basically accounting for most of the Sox offense until Carl Everett hit a 2 run double to give the Sox their first lead at 5-4, where the game stayed. Buehrle improved to 4-1 despite giving up 4 runs over 8 innings, all on home runs. Takatsu picked up his 7th, I believe, save of the season on a 1-2-3 ninth inning. I knew it wasn't gonna work out. You could clearly see after that great 1st half of 2002 that Glavine is losing it quickly. This guy is such a liability on the mound it's not even funny. It's almost a guaranteed loss when he takes the hill. Also, time for Piazza to hit the bench or be dropped to 8th in the lineup. He hasn't hit a lick and we're a month into the season. His velocity seems to be coming along, though he did walk 4 (making that 6 total in his two starts) so his control might not be there yet. I think the trade worked out fine. The point is that it is another example of the Yankees dealing prospects in return for "ready now" players, trying to make a run at a World Championship. And now they are paying the price, because they could use Juan Rivera, they could use Nick Johnson, and hell, they could even use Randy Choate. Meanwhile, Vazquez's inability to pitch effectively cost the Yankees the ALCS, and now Randy Johnson is on the DL, and the Yankees are paying HIM for the next three years. Fun note from the 2003 Baseball Prospectus, concerning Nick Johnson.... "But a good sophomore seaspm os a must if he wants to avoid growing up to be a Washington Expo."
