By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Black leaders called Monday for a rally in Washington this fall to mark the tenth anniversary of the Million Man March, this time including women.

Separately, the Anti-Defamation League criticized the lead role of organizer Louis Farrakhan.

Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, appeared with former presidential candidates Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to announce the Millions More Movement in October.

It is billed as a more inclusive successor to the Million Man March, encouraging women and gays to attend.

Farrakhan, who has been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks in the past, issued a broad invitation that also took aim at the wealthy, his critics, and both political parties.

"Millions More means we're reaching for the millions who carry the rich on their backs," he said. He also used the sort of provocative language that has prompted past criticism.

"If anybody deserves to strap a bomb on themselves and give pain for the pain we have suffered, it is we. But none of us would kill," he said.

More info in the link provided at the top. What do you guys think of this?

Sadly, the article focuses more on the controversy over Farrakhan (who I'll agree is NUTS), than why he, Sharpton, and Jackson feel the need to have another march.

It's gotta suck living and DC and dealing with this stuff all the time. How do you get anything done with all these groups coming into town for this and that?

Posted

Sure, it's not the 1960s, but the WASPs still pretty much control the majority share of the country.

Anyway, beyond that stupid comment, I don't really give a shit, and I can't imagine that many will. We have more problems in the world today, and anytime someone uses the phrase "black leaders," like they were chosen in a vote or somehow appointed with an official title, crack me up.

And what's wrong with being a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant anyway?

I agree with you about "black leaders." I don't think they're really in touch with most blacks in this country anyway.

I also have to wonder what role blacks in America will play in the next few years, now that Hispanics are the largest minority in the country. You have to wonder if blacks will become more marginalized, or if they will somehow be "absorbed" into other ethnicities/cultures. I wish our country was beyond the point where we had to split people into different racial groups with things like this proposed march, though.

So he's basically reaching for the people who carry him, Al, and Jesse on their backs for no gain? Since you know, he is rich.

"Public urination is just wrong. Except during the Million Man March when protestors burned down our porta-potties and I used my stream of justice to put out the hate."

Except for the bitchslapping on reasonable thinking that Farrakhan unleashed with his numerology diatribe.

Yeah, but it was in Washington DC. You know how much bitchslapping on reasonable thinking happens there everyday?

I'm not sure the mathematical formula has been devised to fully equate the level of idiocy in Washington DC.

Are you just saying everyone's racist nowadays?

It's one of the four "Great American Truths"

1. All whites are racist

2. All men are sexist

3. All heterosexuals are homophobic

4. The rich are out to fuck everyone

Point is, racism still runs through the mainstream in this country, even though white men don't control as much as they did in the 1950s.

Ah, all whites are inherently racist.

Well, except for you, of course.

It sounds like he's saying that racism's still there, but it's getting better, because minorities are grabbing some of that coveted racism power away from white men.

Wait a second, white MEN? Yeah because women are never racist you stupid twat.

Of course not, since they're all minorities.

Would it be wrong if I, a white person of hispanic descent, cared about civil rights for blacks or can only blacks do this? Because that's kind of hypocritical if it were the latter.
