No, seriously, the what?

Assuming it's a soccer reference, sorry, us Americans couldn't give a shit less about the crappier of two sports which share the name "football", no matter how much the rest of the world cums in their pants at the mere screaming of the word "Gooooooooal!".

No one screams that any more apart from Americans.

Southampton is the 17th best side in the english top league, and they are playing the 18th best side with 2 games to go, and the team that finishes 18th goes down.

Which is why he's worrying muchly.

That's what I figured, or something of that nature.

Well if your crappy team is in 17th place, they don't seem so brave to me, unless all the starters died in some terrorist attack and the current players are drunks from the local pub. Perhaps Southampton FC deserves to be bumped down into Division B, or whatever you people call it over there.

And is this 11:05 in the a.m. or in the p.m.?...

Nah, the league is just dominated by the rich clubs with all the good players. Southhampton isn't one of those clubs.

Crappier?

At least in American football they hit each other really hard. Not as hard as in rugby, true, but we Yanks gotta take what we can get.

Oh boo hoo, it's not like the money goes out there and scores the goals.

I didn't pray, but I said Jesus Christ when I stubbed my toe at around 11:30 a.m. Hope that helped...

Ya well, we run on the field for 90 consecutive minutes, compaired to an average of 10 seconds per play after the snap.

True, you've gotta be a cardio hoss to play soccer.

Unless your the fuckin goalie.

Goalies should be as fat as possible.

You try wearing all that equipment in as physically demanding a sport as football, especially at the end of the game where you'll be running a 2-minute huddle if you're trying to comeback and you're already exhausted from taking a pounding and running at full speed every single play over the course of a couple hours. It's like comparing running 10 miles, paced, and at times walking and resting, with running 30-40 sprints of varying distances over the course of a game.

Unless of course, you're a lineman, in which case you're just using every ounce of strength in your body which requires a shitload of conditioning as well.

Ah, the fanaticism over soccer in Europe reminds me of why I wouldn't be able to stand living abroad for very long. I would miss our sports way too much.

Yeah, but Chelsea (rich as fuck) have the best players in the world whereas Southampton (not rich as fuck) don't, and that is a result of their unlimited cash. Whilst they did develop their side over a fairly long period, the money means the players don't have an incentive to go elsewhere.

Depends what players your on about, we've had our share of Lazy Players who spend 85 minutes stood in the centre circle looking in the stands for the scouts and the other 5 doing tricks and going for 30 yarders in view of those scouts.

For my own personal entertainment, sport=competition, and competition=violence.

Therefore: American football > soccer

I'm an American. Whaddya expect? ::cocks Colt .45::

Yes, this argument is largely unneccessary and will never be resolved. I will say that one theory of why 'soccer' didn't take off in the US is that it's too difficult to score. I don't really agree with that, but it's one view.

South American football is usually pretty tedious to watch and full of constant foul play despite how naturally gifted so many of the players are.

I knew this thread was about Southampton when I saw Van Halen's name attatched. Man Utd will save you by putting out a reserve team next week anyway so there's no need for praying.

South American futbol is not tedious, it's much more exciting and the players play to win, as opposed to playing not to lose.
