natey2k4 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Steve Romero "called in sick" to the Smackdown taping yesterday which got a lot of people talking backstage. Nobody in WWE realls "call in sick." Vince McMahon sets the example of working through sickness and pain and expects everyone to follow. A lot of the workers were upset that Romero, an announcer, called in sick while they can't despite taking bumps in the ring. Credit: PWInsider.com Wow.. thats quite funny. Sucks to be Romero when he gets back... *But however, as long as this is legit, then I agree with Romero's decision. I remember watching a Raptors basketball last year or the year before, and Chuck Sworsky(sp?) came to announce the game with laringintus, and I could not watch the game. It was terrifying trying to listen to him. As long as Romero was in a situation like this, thank god for him calling in sick. However, if he was just puking and what not, he should of still came.
Guest netslob Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 maybe he has an infection in his solar plexus.
Guest Fook_Theta Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Lock the thread, cannot get much better than that comeback.
Guest FromBeyondTheGrave Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Just let Josh ramble on for an hour.
RavishingRickRudo Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Oddly enough, no one in the WWE is mad at him for sucking. Very strange priorities in the E.
GreatWhiteNope Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 maybe he has an infection in his solar plexus. You stole my joke.
Matt Young Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Josh and Tazz make a great team, so I hope that's who we'll be getting this weekend.
Celtic Jobber Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I'm probably in the minority but I think Steve is actually one of the best "new" announcers in recent WWE history. He's atleast better than Coachman and the RAW B-level announcer with glasses (sorry can't remember his name).
Matt Young Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Todd Grisham. Yes, Romero is better than him, but he can't fuck with heel Coach.
Mole Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Wow, I need to watch more wrestling. I have no idea who Romero is.
Garth Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I thought this was going to be about Rocky Romero, I was sadly dissapointed. I can for the life of me never remember this announcers name.
Jericholic82 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Wow he was just out a while ago. hes not the best announcer, but him and mark llyod are ok on byte this. except of course when he dared to take a crack at my yankees two weeks ago, now I hate him.lol Is Bill Demott still around? he and josh made a good team IMO.
Jericholic82 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 screw this, they should bring in Stevie Ray, "cuz suckas gots to know"
natey2k4 Posted May 12, 2005 Author Report Posted May 12, 2005 I HATED Bill DeMott.. he was probably the worst announcer in recent memory. Maybe it was his voice I'm not sure.. I think Romero has a possiblitity to be a GREAT announcer. The guy has a very good voice, but he's still new to the game, at least in WWE. Within the next year, I'm sure he'll get better. At least he can call people by the right name, even though everyone gets hit in the solar plexus 14 1/2 times per match..

He's atleast better than Coachman and the RAW B-level announcer with glasses (sorry can't remember his name). He's better than Todd Grisham? That's hardly a compliment. I was watching some of Royal Rumble 99 the other week where Michael Cole was commentating, and it appears he hasn't improved at all despite seven years of announcing. Why have they kept him? Although I guess, in fairness, Vince McMahon apparently started commentating in 1971 and provided famously bad commentary for the next 25 years.
Art Sandusky Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 No one is better than heel Coach. No one.
LucharesuFan619 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Never heard've Steve Romero till I read this thread. I thought this was about Rocky Romero, too.
Enigma Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I read the name wrong and thought this was about Romeo from the Heart Throbs.
nl5xsk1 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 With all the good to great talkers that they have as active or former wrestlers, how hard would it be to get a short-term replacement? I mean, is Michael Hayes still backstage? He'd be fine. Same with Angle. Or AA. It shouldn't be that hard.
Youth N Asia Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I read the name wrong and thought this was about Romeo from the Heart Throbs. Me too, I thought "Why does he have to be on Velocity? He's on RAW." Coach >>>>>> Everyone else right now
Toxxic Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Bill DeMott is possibly the worst announcer ever, only passed by The Cat. Matthews and Tazz is a pairing made in heaven. Matthews and Cole was pretty cool too, only because Cole abandoned any sort of 'character' and spent the entire show taking the piss out of Matthews. Which was very amusing.
Jericholic82 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I liked the interaction w/mathhews and demott, not sayign bill was so great or anything. coach and al snow were a fun team. coach and grish arent so bad on Heat. Heel Coach does indeed rule.

It's looked down upon if you call in sick? This just reaffirms that McMahon and his wrestlers are a bunch of brats.
Guest wolverine1007 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 If Romero was sick enough that it affected his voice, then they shouldn't have used him for Television anyways. A month or so ago on Raw, Mark Loyd was doing the Canadian house-show hype sick, and it looked like he rolled out of bed to do it. Doesn't seem professional for a company that enforces a dress code to make sick announcers go on TV.
Guest Fook_Theta Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 I'm surprised at how many people don't bother to watch Velocity which was easily at one time the best bang for your time watching WWE tv. Romero is improving quite well and with enough time and motivation he could be a solid announcer on any of the shows. Him and Josh play off each other well, however what is lacking is either good matches to call or lack of a heelish color commentator. Josh as Bobby the Brain Heenan 2.0 might have some promise, but he'll have to be on the PPVs to even try.
RavishingRickRudo Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Romero is awful. All of the WWE announcers are awful. Maybe only Tazz is passable. If "He gets their names right" and "He isn't Todd Grisham" are the best things you can say about him, then he's awful.
