Enigma 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Lance Storm announced on his official website StormWrestling.com that he has given notice to World Wrestling Entertainment and will be leaving the company in July when his current deal expires. Storm wrote, "Last week I gave my notice to WWE and we will be parting ways at the end of my current contract this July. The office and I are parting on great terms and will continue to keep in touch, as we are both open to the possibility of working together again in the future. I can’t thank WWE enough for everything it has afforded me over the past 4 years." Storm, who had been working as a trainer for Ohio Valley Wrestling in recent months but was still under a wrestler contract, noted that he made the decision to pull himself off the road completely and spend more time with his family. Storm noted he would be working the ECW One Night Stand PPV on 6/12, which looks to be his final WWE commitment. He then intends to open a wrestling school in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta Canada. Storm didn't bring up the subject of wrestling for TNA or on the independent level. If anyone is interested in information on his wrestling school, Storm can be contacted at [email protected]. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Lance is one of my favorites, and I've visited his site and communicated with him (well, I used to) since around the time he left ECW. He's a great guy and a very good wrestler, but he's been retired for a while now, so it's not a huge blow. I'm just happy that I'll get to see him wrestle one more time at ECW One Night Stand. Who knows.... maybe that will inspire him to make a full time comeback, even though it seems doubtful. Still, he's way too young to retire. He's barely into his 30's. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Actually, he's 36. While he's certainly not too old to wrestle, I don't think retirement's out of the question. He's basically gone about as far as he's going to go in the WWE, and I don't think he's in a situation where he needs the money or exposure that would be provided by working indies or working for TNA. I could see him doing maybe 1 or 2 ROH shows if he gets bored, but I don't think he'll ever wrestle full-time again.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Storm was boring and never got over no matter how much he was pushed. The REAL fans like people with charisma and character and Storm has neither! Good riddance. Unless that was a sarcastic post referring to his "boring" gimmick, you are officially an idiot, you have no idea what you are talking about, and you are completely wrong. Iggy- You're right. For some reason, I thought he was 33. Still, he could easily wrestle for another 5-10 years. Random note: If I ever decide to go back and finish my pro wrestling training, forget Springfield and NMW (although I love those guys). I'd much rather get trained by Lance fucking Storm. Guest nokia Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Lance Storm was never really used right in the wwe, but I''d tip my hat of to him and pat his shoulder if i could based on his ENTIRE carer any day of the week Such a shame that his retirement is going to be over shadowed by all the other cool things happening with this ppv Thanks Lance
Guest Big Boss Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Storm was never over except in the minds of a few message board smarks. The boring chant was the most heat he ever got. I liked his boring angle, they were trying to make his boringness funny like Steve Blackman and Head Cheese, but he didn't even have the talent to get that right. Honestly I don't see what the WWE could have done to get him over to the REAL fans.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 I thought you were just trying to be a dick, but it seems that I assumed incorrectly, and thus I am sorry for calling you an idiot. Storm was somewhat over, especially in WCW, but the WWF/E just ruined him. The main issue I have with your comments, however, is the no-charisma remark. As someone who has visited Lance's site for years and communicated with him in the past (I realize I mentioned this in the last post) I've seen that he has a great personality and sense of humor. He has charisma, but his character did not allow it to show. Oh, one more thing: Welcome to the board.

Honestly I don't see what the WWE could have done to get him over to the REAL fans. What REAL fans do you speak of? The ones who dropped the WWE after it no logner became cool, or the 14 year olds who get wood at the sight of a bra and panties match. I would class the majority of people on the internet to be REAL fans of wrestling, because suprise suprise, they enjoy wrestling. They buy the merchandise and the PPV's more religiously, and don't you dare talk about Storm not having talent. If you are gonna say that rubbish, back up what you say with facts, not your dislike of a wrestler and resorting to fabricaiting things to back up your arguments. Honestly I don't see what the WWE could have done to get him over to the REAL fans. Evidently his career began when he joined the wwe, huh? He was definitely over in wcw, and was legit over in ecw ... or do those runs not count? I admit that I'm a bit biased, as I am a fan of his work, but he could have had a few world title runs if wcw didn't go under. A feud between him against Booker would have been better than most of the other crap that wcw was spewing out in their world title picture. I wonder if all the recent crap with JBL & Holly is what finally pushed Storm away.

EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 I wonder if all the recent crap with JBL & Holly is what finally pushed Storm away. That's the first thing that popped into my mind when I first read Lance was leaving. I mean him and Bradshaw have words with each other backstage about with Lance told his students and Storm walks away and people in the back says Storm was chicken. Then a few weeks later Lance is leaving the fed. Maybe because of this Lance sees what he teaches and tells his students won't mean jack once they get called up to the E. And he got tired of it. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 First off, I want to congratulate Big Boss for getting suspended after only three posts. That must be a new record. Second, I have to say, Storm really didn't have that much going for him. I only started to like him after I read his website, not because of anything he did on screen. He was a slightly above average worker, and he definitely had a good dry sense of humor, but that was about it. I think he's one of those guys who built up a reputation as being "great", because they were average when WCW was terrible. (See T, Booker.) He's an entertaining enough character, and he's a solid midcard worker, but he's not versatile enough to really have much long-term potential, and after the initial "serious" gimmick ran its course, there really wasn't anywhere to go with him. Only The Strong Survive 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 I think that the gimmick that got Storm over in WCW, that whole winning every title and changing the names bit, is the kind of thing that wouldn't work in the WWE. Even though Storm was always in great physical shape, absolutely nothing about him stood out, which I think is why most WWE fans, weaned on the Stone Colds and Rocks of the world, would never even give who most people consider a solid worker (i.e. Benoit) a fair chance. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 HOLY CRAP LANCE STORM IS STILL ON THE PAYROLL???????? seriously though, storm was over the most when he did use cheap heat, the whole canada vs us thing in wcw and wwe. He was a star in ECW mainly because there you didnt need to be a big musclehead to be a top guy. But he stuck out like a sore thumb in WWE because he had no character to speak of despite being plain and boring. His team with Regal showed some promise, but that ended when Willy got hurt so. Guest Fook_Theta Report post Posted May 17, 2005 Never been a Lance Storm mark, but he was quite good in the ring. He has no personality to speak of, but I wouldn't mind him working matches as a jobber/trainer to up and coming talent. The only thing I could see him getting over as is apart of a group of old veterans that just beat the fuck out of the kids. Regal, Lance Storm, Benoit and maybe Flair just drilling all these shitty OVW gimmicks until the younger guys go over. Stupid for him to leave. He should have just kept gaining power in OVW or opened up a gym in canada while still cashing a WWE paycheck.
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted May 17, 2005 I can’t thank WWE enough for everything it has afforded me over the past 4 years Lance says the best match of his career was Lance/Edge at Summerslam 01.. He's also been IC Champ and WWE tag champ on 4 occasions that I can recall- w/Christian once w/Regal twice w/Morley once Not bad for someone who was pushed at midcard level.... should have been given a spot in the Survivor Series 03 elimination match, what Lance said about the original plan for the boring gimmick made sense and should have gotten him over as a face in late 03... I loved Lynn/Storm from Anarchy Rulz 99- really got me back into ECW and all the Strom/Candido stuff was ace...... In WCW he was the main reason to watch imo for a couple of months in summer 00 before he got depushed for no good reason... In WWE he should have been used immediately as an upper-midcard border line main event guy and pushed consistently from there. Storm, similar to Regal is a worker who seems to get over when allowed to showcase his extensive repertoire in longer matches and had trouble adjusting to WWE 2 minute matches and the WWE style in general post 01. haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2005 When Lance was allowed to have offense and not work jobber treatment, he was VERY watchable. He was extremely agile, and had a lot of technical ability. He wasn't the greatest talker ever, but his abilities made up for it. I think he couldve had a reasonable run at the main event if booked properly. I remember when he would be in the ring with RVD in both ECW, and very briefly in WWE, and their styles seemed to gel perfectly. From reading his site, I have learned of how intelligent Storm is, as well as several other favorable qualities he has. I, personally, cant wait to see the first group of wrestlers trained by him. Im sure they will be something special.

I have to ask: What did Big Boss do to get suspended? I like Storm, but I cant imagine him in the ME. Tag Team and IC/US definitely. Would have preferred him over the Dudleyz any day in Team Austin. That would have made the match even better. I like the people he tagged with too. Justin, Awesome, Skipper, Christian, Regal and Morely. Would have liked to see he spend more time in OVW. Would have preferred it if he was like in TNA's Team Canada or Manager. I think he would have done well in TNA, as its more his style. I can see him doing a gig in ROH every now and then, since hes a traditionalist. Good luck to him, since hes been lucky on the injury front and made some good money. He comes across as a nice guy. There was nothing for him in WWE.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 He also REALLY dislikes Kawada and Sasuke. Lance better not teach people how to throw a punch, he should probably outsource that department of his training school. Interestingly enough, Lance isn't the only one to badmouth Kawada. RVD shits all over him in one of those old RF shoots. And now Rico does it. What do these people have in common? Oh yeah, them niggas ain't shit compared to Dangerous K. Shooting Star 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2005 Back in 2000 and 2001 I was just a mark and I really enjoyed Lance Storm in WCW he was one of my favorites and I was hoping for him to become a World Champion sometime. I don't know about U.S.A but when he was in WCW he was one of the most over wrestlers down here and we're mostly a mark crowd so I think if they gave him the chance he could have gotten over with the marks in the states.
