Guest Redhawk Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 For example, I don't watch hockey, but I always make sure to catch the end of the Stanley Cup Finals. Why? Because those guys seem to care more about their sport's championship more than any other athletes care about their respective titles. Also, I don't watch gymnastic regularly, but always watch it during the Olympics.
CanadianGuitarist Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I'd gamble as to say every Summer Olympic Event.
Guest Rrrsh Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I am big on Penelty shots for soccer in World or Euro Cups. Biggets one that sticks out was Baggio in 94.
iggymcfly Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Oh yeah, I always like to watch the US World Cup games. Their run last time was pretty cool. However, for just a typical soccer game, I'm lucky if I can sit through half of it.
Fökai Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 For a game that already happened, the womens' 1998 world soccer championship with U.S./China that ended in that famous shootout with Brandi Chastain clinching the game with that famous pose. I love soccer altogether (played it religously growing up), but had fallen out of love with the sport after the 1994 mens' Cup. This brought me back.
Red Baron Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 If anyone wanted to see a good soccer game they should have watched the Liverpool vs A.C. Milan game a few days ago. Now that was a football game. Anyways I'd have to say the Blue Jays back to back championships were my favourite.
MillenniumMan831 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I went to a Cleveland Force vs. Milwaukee Wave game this year (Major Indoor Soccer League) and I must say it was a great time. A lot of action, tunes being played during the whole game, and some good ol fashioned hitting. Fun stuff seeing a fight almost break out right next to a Christian radio station ad on the boards.
CanadianGuitarist Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 NCAA College basketball during the tournament. I hate it any other time. Brutal. I'll second that.
the max Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Vinatieri's kicks in the snow game at Foxboro against the Raiders.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 The Nolan Ryan headlock and pummel on Robin Ventura.
TheBostonStrangler Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Stanley Cup finals/1980 US vs. Russia for hockey, and the US/Mexico game in the 2002 World Cup would be my nominees.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Anytime in basketball when there's a halfcourt (or longer) shot.
Richard Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 NCAA College basketball during the tournament. I hate it any other time. Brutal. I only need to watch the last two minutes of a game.
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 2004 ALCS, Games 4-7, and Game 4 of the 2004 World Series.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 So you're not a baseball fan and you hate the Yankees anyway?
Jorge Gorgeous Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 So you're not a baseball fan and you hate the Yankees anyway? Such is our burden.
bob_barron Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 So you're not a baseball fan and you hate the Yankees anyway? He didn't say that he hated the Yankees. Games 4 and 5 were very exciting back and forth games, Game 6 had the Schilling ankle thing. You can not hate the Yankees, and still love those games. And the Red Sox, like it or not, were a pretty inspirational team to a lot of people and of course people who don't like baseball are going to get into a team rallying from a 3-0 deficit.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I don't like seeing penalty kicks determine the end of a game -- let them play until they collapse...
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 So you're not a baseball fan and you hate the Yankees anyway? I'm not sure if I understand what this is supposed to mean; are you implying that casual fans should like the Yankees? That if I were to wake up tomorrow morning and decide to start following baseball that I, having no geographical loyalties, should just start rooting for the Yankees?

With overwhelmingly unexplained anti Yankee sentiment almost everywhere I go these days, it stood to reason. Nothing to do with where you are from or who you root for, since I know tons of Philly/Met fans who became Boston fans in the playoffs for sheer "Yankee hate," despite the fact that they are in different leagues and pretty much don't affect eachother whatsoever (The Mets moreso, but that's just the city thing) especially Philly.
Darthtiki Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Yesterday's Indy 500 with Danica. I'm a NASCAR fan and can't stand the indy cars
CanadianChris Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Kentucky Derby. Plus the Belmont Stakes if a horse is going for the Triple Crown.
nl5xsk1 Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 The closest I have to fitting this description was the year the Marlins beat the Indians in the World Series ... me and a bunch of friends - all of whom dislike baseball to various levels - went to BW3s to play trivia and get drunk. We all met up at my place, got high and waited til the game was almost over before walking over to the bar ... only to find that the game wasn't over yet, and we had to sit there while they had the game on EVERY TV. We popped so loud when the game finally ended that people thought that we were Marlins fans, and sent over shots to drink with them. So, my favorite moment was getting free shots just by thinking that people thought I was rooting for Florida.
Guest eppeedancer Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I love to play baseball but hate to watch it except for the all star game and the world series.
Crimson Platypus Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I'd say my favorite sports moment from a "sport" that I don't like would be when that one hillbilly made a right instead of a left that one time and died. The best part was how all the other hicks got all sad and built shrines to him with his number on them and put his number on their cars and stuff like that. The number was 8, think his name was Earnhard or something like that.

nl5xsk1 Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I think it would have been funnier if you didn't specify which crash you were referring to, but just left it as the vague "NASCAR driver takes right by mistake" type of joke. /just my $0.02
PLAGIARISM! Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Television/radio personality Terry Wogan took this insanely long drive in an exhibition Golf game and got an unbelievable fluke hole in one, crowd erupted and he fell to the floor in euphoria.
Guest Mosaicv2 Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 Most Golf events (PGA Tours, Masters, Ryder Cup, etc.), Soccer, Lacrosse & Rugby events... also most major Horse-racing events. Actually I becoming a real fan of Soccer for some reason.
