Vaughn Quits 'X-Men 3'

British director Matthew Vaughn has quit the third X-Men movie because of "personal" problems. The Layer Cake film-maker, who is married to supermodel Claudia Schiffer, has urgently flown back from Hollywood to his home in London - leaving the movie's pre-production in chaos. X-Men 3, the second sequel to the smash 2000 comic book adaptation, was Vaughn's first big-budget studio project and he is devastated he's been forced to abandon the project Producer Avi Arad says, "This is not a case of creative differences. This is a personal decision by Matthew, and I can tell you that he is heartbroken. He loved this material, and he wanted to make this film." Comic Marvel and studio Fox are expected to make an announcement in the next few days regarding a replacement director, but filming - which was set to start in early July - looks set to be delayed.

They need to start over with Joss Whedon as writer/director.

Director? Sure, why not. Writer? Naw, I'd stick with the X-Men/X2 screenwriter.

When you absolutely positively need an unremarkable mediocre movie to get made fast, call Brett Ratner. Accept no substitutes.

If it's true, Sass' prediction of this one going to hell is virtually assured.

If I was married to Claudia Schiffer she'd never leave the bedroom. Nor would she have clothes on. Ever. Fuck directing movies.

No, fuck Claudia Schiffer.

Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News

June 2, 2005

Ain't-It-Cool-News has learned that 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios have narrowed the position for X-Men 3 director down to two names. Matthew Vaughn left the production earlier this week due to personal reasons.

The site says that the director's chair will either go to John Moore, who helmed both Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix for Fox, or to Brett Ratner, best known for the "Rush Hour" films and who has also directed such films as After the Sunset and Red Dragon.

Fuck Bryan Singer for leaving to direct Superman Returns.

Actually, Singer was planning on doing X3 after he finished Superman Returns. Fox didn't want to wait.

Probably not much longer.

I believe there was time to do Returns before he was due to start X3.

It's been reported that Wheedon doesn't want to direct it, because he can already tell whatever X-Men story he want's in Astonishing, and not worry about a budget.

Oh god, not Rat Bastard.

Well, if that's the case, Fox should wait until Superman Returns is finished and then start. They would still get their projected 2006 release, right?

That would be best, espiecally now that their pick has backed out.

I doubt that'll happen, as I believe the split wasn't friendly.

Would you guys rather it be Paul Anderson?

Which one?

P.T. Anderson directing X3 would be interesting

Im talking about the "genius" behind such wonderous films as Alien vs Predator and Resident Evil. Though, he did direct the first Mortal Kombat, and so I cant fault him much for that.

Would you guys rather it be Paul Anderson who gets stuck directing X-Men 3?

No. I'll take Ratner over him any day. As far as I know, Ratner's an average director, whose familiarity with the source material is unknown. WS is a total hack, though.

man FOX just needs to bite the bullet and push this shit back 6 months. Their obsession with the release date ASSUREs taht no quality director will want to take this gig, by jumping in just weeks before filming and not having any real creative influence.

Never fear, Uwe Boll, can direct the movie for under $10 million.

The downside is that the worldwide take will *just* crack $10 million.

Realistically, it isn't Fox's fault that they want the movie to actually be made in a timely fashion, but finding a director who respects the material and who is able to competently transfer it to film is difficult. I guess we won't know of Vaughn would have been the man or not, but this is going to hurt him career-wise, I suspect.

So, what are the release timetables for these comic movies looking like? Obviously Batman Begins and Fan4 are next, but is that it until Spidey 3 (which I think is summer 06)?

From Aint it Cool

More news is flooding out since Matthew Vaughn called it quits on X-Men 3 yesterday. Brett Ratner, who at one-time was attached to direct Superman Returns, may be tapped to take over the mutant sequel.

Another name apparently in the running is John Moore, director of action/adventure flicks Flight of the Phoenix and Behind Enemy Lines. Fans can forget Josh Whedon. He's currently attached to Wonder Woman, and also would probably not be interested in a film that he did not have a part in its writing process.

As for the sequel itself, it is said to be very controversial. According to Aint it Cool: "Three major characters that absolutely should not die, die. Really dead, too. Not Spock Dead. And one mutant who should not lose her powers, loses her powers permanently. Really loses them, too. Not SUPERMAN II loses them. And the sex scene... when you see who does what to who... oh, boy".

Yeah but Spock dead was really dead for a time... until the studio needed more money

Well if this it true, I am assuming the characters that die but shouldn't die will be Wolverine, Magneto, and Professor X? Rogue will lose her powers, and Wolverine will fuck the dead corpse of Jean Grey. Thats my 2 cents.

X-Men 3 is a mess.

Halle Berry & Hugh Jackman should get as much money as they want to be in these films until the FOX studios are ready to revamp the series.

Wolverine

Storm

Colossus

Havok

Polaris

Iceman

Rogue

Beast

That'd be a nice team. Storm is the 2nd in command and Cyclops isn't going to be in this flick. Halle should be. She actually can act and has the big name and appeal that could help this movie out. It's going to need all the help it can get.

Ditch the Phoenix Saga and start new. The moment Jean comes back is when the series will end. Death no longer applies. Once that happens in any medium, people tend to lose interest.
