You could did up a MAME rom of it to play on your PC, sure. I wouldn't bother though, for one simple reason: it kinda sucked. If you go into it expecting anything near the quality of part II, you'll be greatly disappointed. The story: Ryu and Ken enter a tournament and fight a bunch of guys. That's pretty much it. Sagat is the last boss.

The PC version is horrible. I played the MAME version and the controls are not as fluid as SFII or SFIII. Although, if you can do a fireball or uppercut, it will empty you oppenent's life bar quite a bit. There was a Turbographics version out there but I have never played that.

Capcom, a company notorious for milking every franchise that they produce, has basically tried to sweep it under the rug, save for that 1 PC version which is relatively rare.

That ought to tell you something.

The curiosity about it, and its sole important plot point (Ryu/Sagat) prompted the Alphas, naturally.

I thought there was a chance of them including it on the new Capcom Classics Collection, but they wussed out; SFII, SFII CE, and SF2T are included, but not 1.

Street Fighter 2042 or something like that, was this game in the future that was side scrolling and you were Ken. It was on regular nintendo.

I don't know if that's the one that you were talking about though.

No he was talking about the original Street Fighter.

It sucked. It was slow and the controls weren't very good. I'm surprised they decided to make a Street Fighter II, but I'm glad they did.

It was horrid, but probably better than any other fighting games of the period. They didn't really do them until SFII.

I remember it had this thing where (at least I think it was this game... this or something similar) the harder you pressed the button the harder your strike would be, which led to rampant abuse of the machine.

Adon was the sub-boss. He was much, much harder than Sagat. Sagat was much harder than Bison as well, so that was traditional.

There was two different types of arcade versions, one with the pressure sensetive buttons and the other with traditional buttons.

At the beginning of the game you'd get four countries to go to and you'd do them in any order you wanted. Once you beat them you'd get 4 more. Then you'd go to Thailand and fight Adon and Sagat.

Eagle from CvsS2, Birdie from SF Alpha and Gen from SF Alpha are some of the characters. Mike is probably Balrog from SF II.

It did? Elaborate, plz

It takes place after Ryu defeated and scarred Sagat, but before Sagat had officially joined up with Bison. Adon was still Sagat's student. Birdie was trying to get a spot in Shadoloo. We had Charlie before Bison killed him. The Final Fight characters who obviously were around during the 80's. Basically Capcom was just fleshing out stuff that happened after then and before SFII, although which endings actually happened aren't totally clear.

Alpha 3 doesn't make any sense whatsover, though. I consider it more of a "dream match" game with a couple new characters than an official storyline.

Of course, you could say the real reason that Capcom did the Alpha games was probably to squeeze a little more life out of the CPS2 hardware, keeping the SF name out there while they were working on SF3.

Birdie was sick.

Seriously, that's the excuse Capcom used.

After decades of surgery, Birdie became Remy, perhaps?

I used to actually have this one for PC. I think I found it at Shopko for like 10 dollars and bought it. Like everyone else said, the controls were hard. It was REALLY tough to do any moves other than basic punches and kicks, IIRC. I think I maybe got off a hurricane kick or fireball one time.

The Ultracade machine at the arcade closest to me has this on the emulation list. I love how beating Mike consisted of getting one hit in, then turtling in the corner for the win via time limit decision because he has no attacks against a crouching block. Everybody else took a bit of luck though.

I have two different versions of SF1 for PC. There's the old school DOS port and an emulated version in a fairly new compilation along with SF II CE. The game sucks so much. I almost bought a SF1 arcade for like 100 dollars last year but it's not even worth that. I still think it should be on the upcoming Capcom disc though, just so that it's playable on a modern console. All they have to do is make the controls actually work and the game would be at least playable.

This forum is dying because there's never any controversary anymore. We need another big topic that people really care about like FF VII.

Welcome back Anya; I hadn't seen you on in a while.

In response, I'd throw in a "FFXII is gonna blow" comment for kicks, but you'd probably agree.

The board's probably going to be dull for a while regardless, since few big game releases come out during the summer, esp. June.

By the end of this week we'll probably have a topic on the Batman Begins game, though.

Thanks, I've been in the hospital.

XII could be good. Even though most of Square's work has sucked since FFX, it's still a NEW FF and they're always good. Why is it delayed so much though? That and Advent Children are like rare titles. I've gone from being really hyped for AC to complete apathy.

I need to buy RE Outbreak 2, Area 51 and Metal Slug 4/5 but can't afford it.

only you two could turn a discussion about the original Street Fighter into an RPG thread! FOR SHAME! :P

Anyway, regardless of how much it sucks now, SF was THE coin gobbler back in the day, there were lines and lines of folks trying to play it...

But that didn't happen until SF II. The original SF was not a big success.

An FF VII thread would end up being a circle-jerk. We need less RPG threads and more sports game threads.

Batman Begins looks like it could be decent. It can't be any worse than Batman Forever or the Genesis version of Batman Returns.

If you're talking about Street Fighter II, I'd definitely agree. The original Street Fighter wasn't very popular. Most people didn't care about the SF series until SF 2 came along.

I don't mean an actual thread about FF VII, but a topic that people really care about. When we were arguing about FF VII there was a lot of emotion. Lots of people either absolutely love it or think it was one of the worst things to happen to games. We need another topic like that, something that people feel strongly about.

I dunno, guys, I mean sure the numbers will never match up, but I remember lines and lines of people in the DC, Virginia and Maryland arcades waiting to play SF for a good 7 or 8 months...at least on the huge pressure sensitive button models...when it switched to 6 button, it seemed to drop off...

*Nod* I'd assumed so but didn't want to pry. Take care. :)

All I know about XII so far, aside from some...odd character designs...is supposedly that the turn-based battle system is gone. That could be a good thing, but I wonder what they'd replace it with. KH's system works well for what it is, but it's far from perfect. Symphonia's is fun, but without multiple players it's less interesting.

A close friend of mine is still really hyped for Advent Children though. I'm sure that SE still has quite the devoted community ready to snap it up, but with seemingly the most talented Square people leaving, future Squeenix prospects seem relatively dim as far as quality. Maybe I'll be shocked and XII will r0xx0r5.

As for Batman--what the heck, I'll make a thread for it now (replying to you in that one).
