Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 9, 2005 I remember My Hero. I still own it. It was one of the few "card" SMS games. The game was a blast, but it was pretty hard. The falling bottles, bouncing spike balls, and bulldogs caused a lot of frustration back in the day. The jump kick noise got annoying really quick.
Guest Fook Report post Posted June 9, 2005 I never owned an SNES. I had a Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and N64. Since then I've discovered all the great SNES games on emulator.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 My Hero was a good game. My favorites were R-Type and Wonderboy in monsterland...still are actually.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 9, 2005 R-Type rocked. I just wish I bought it when I had the chance. The SMS version of Double Dragon was one of my favorites. I remember being excited when my friend and I finally beat the game. That excitement quickly turned into a "what the hell" when we found out that the game wasn't over yet and we had to fight each other. Rocky was pretty good. I loved the training sessions before each fight (all three of them). Clubber Lang was a bitch to beat, though. I thought he was the hardest one to beat. Apollo was easy and Drago wasn't too hard. Time Soldiers was a decent two player game. I still haven't beaten it, but after reading this thread, I'm tempted to dust off the SMS and give it a try. Black Belt was pretty good too. The finishing rapid-fire blows when you beat a boss were cool.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Am I the only one to own the Super Scope gun? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I owned one too, but not until I started collecting SNES stuff again in the Summer of 2001. I found one 100% complete in a Gamestop for $9.99. It was the ONLY way to get a true arcade experience out of Terminator 2, and that game where you fight various robots from a first person view was pretty good, but the gun was pretty much worthless otherwise. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Black Belt was one of my favorites. I also like rapid punches and kicks to finish someone off...although Wayne was a bitch to beat at the end. I'm not near as good at the game as I was 15 years ago. Alex Kidd in Miracle World is another classic. You have any games for trade, Askew?
ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 I remember when I used to own a Master System and the countless hours of fun that gave me. As far as I remember, my favourite games back then were Cyborg Hunter, Rampage, Shinobi, Aztec Adventure and Wonder Boy 3 - the Dragon's Trap.

Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Oh, and Nintendo seems to hate Rare and their DK games IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...which is why they've re-released the DKC games on GBA, and used Rare's character design for DK in Mario vs. Donkey Kong? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let me rephrase that, since you make a good point. First off, it's arguable that DKC, which may have just sold on "nice graphics", helped save the SNES from the wrath of Sega. Nintendo just doesn't respect what Rare did with the franchise. Non-Rare games constantly ignore DKC continuity and supporting characters. It's a shame that Diddy Kong wasn't even in a Camelot sports game until Mario Golf for the Gamecube. Miyamoto also tends to make some backhanded remarks about Rare every now and then. Re-releasing the games just serves to make them some easy money. Since Rare left, Nintendo let the franchise set on the shelf and now it only serves to push their innovative bongo controller, which is all well and good, but I'd really like a normal adventure game that improves on DKC. I have no rhythm:( And hell, Rare's model was basically the only one to choose from besides Naked Arcade Ape and Ugly Mario Kart Ape. Again, just my opinion and wishlist. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 I remember getting my first system, an nes in I think 89 for xmas, I ha dplayed before at friends and fmailys house and always wanted one, maiunly for super mario bros. I got the system and it came with the SMB and duck hut cart and light gun. I used to love my nes, especially the ninja turtles 2 : arcade game. I sold it at funcoland in 94 before our move to socal, in the hopes I would get a super nes finally. biggest mistake of my gaming life. I wound up never owning a snes, but got the genesis for xmas 95 (i know great timing)and i got it at first with wwf raw and nfl 95 (which ruled and I was a master at) my fav genesis game was world series baseball 95 (it kicked ass and still does) and espn national hockey night was great as well. I also like cool spot. Still have my genesis )with raw, espn hockey, WS Baseball, cool spot, george foreman boxing, Rocky and Bullwinkle, NBA JAM: Tournament Edition, Sonic and knuckles) and game boy (which I got in 1990 for xmas) (with tetris, TMNT, WWF Superstars 1 and 2, WWF King Of The Ring, Dr. Mario, Pac-man, bart simpsons escape from camp deadly, nfl football, mega man, riddick bowe boxing, bugs bunny's crazy castle) I got n64 for xmas 97 (I chose it over psx because of the wcw vs nwo world tour game, which ruled at the time. My fav games were goldeneye plus revenge, wm 2000 and no mercy of course. still have my 64 and all 8 game s that I owned (wcw vs nwo, nfl qb club 98, wwf attitude, nba courtside with kobe bryant , wcw/nwo revenge, goldeneye, wm 2000, no mercy), plus a gameshark. havent played the 64 in almost 2 years though. and then I got a ps2 for 2002 xmas and I own like 12 games (wwe sd: sym, gran turismo 3 and jet x20 (which came in the bundle pack I got the ps2 in), GTA 3, SD:HCTP, All Star Baseball 2005, GTA: Vice City, ESPN NFL 2k5 ,The Simpsons Hit and Run, GTA: San Andreas, SD vs RAW, and ESPN Major League Baseball 2k5)

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Let me rephrase that, since you make a good point. First off, it's arguable that DKC, which may have just sold on "nice graphics", helped save the SNES from the wrath of Sega. I wasn't trying to make that point. They were pretty much neck-and-neck around winter 94. Sure, DKC sold tons of SNES systems, but it also effectively sabotaged the Jaguar and 3DO. At a time when both systems got magazine ads regularly, and the occasional good game, out comes Nintendo with DKC, saying that the next level is "already here" and you "don't need fancy new hardware for it." This was all a direct part of the DKC marketing campaign. Nintendo took out two-page magazine spreads that discussed ACM. The SNES's lead when the 16-bit wars were over (more SNES systems were sold) probably had something to do with DKC. Killer Genesis games taped off pretty heavily near the end of the 16 bit era, while Nintendo still were pumping out great games, including the DKC sequels. Nintendo just doesn't respect what Rare did with the franchise. Non-Rare games constantly ignore DKC continuity and supporting characters. It's a shame that Diddy Kong wasn't even in a Camelot sports game until Mario Golf for the Gamecube. Okay, valid point. Miyamoto also tends to make some backhanded remarks about Rare every now and then. Miyamoto may make statements on his own that don't reflect the company at large. I don't think Nintendo USA shares his sentiments, but probably some people in Nintendo Japan likely agree, just because it's Miyamoto. I'd really like a normal adventure game that improves on DKC. I have no rhythm:( Jungle Beat's as close as you'll get, I guess. King of Swing looks awful. And hell, Rare's model was basically the only one to choose from besides Naked Arcade Ape and Ugly Mario Kart Ape. Well, they could have made a new one. Naked Arcade Ape looks more intimidating, though.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 I didn't own a console until--I believe it was Christmas 93 when I got my Genesis. Previously I'd only get to play for any length of time when I went over to my cousins'. Super Mario Bros. was *the* game, until SMB3 that is. One of my cousins finished SMB2 and showed me the ending. Very cool. Non-Mario stuff we'd play would be Duck Hunt, and I would get hooked on Mega Man 2 (Metal Blade = badass). The reason I got a Genesis first over SNES? Sonic. I'd gotten hooked on Sonic because of various displays in department stores. My parents didn't want let me get into gaming because they worried I'd get addicted, etc. You probably know the common fears out around that time. I'll admit that DKC was one of the major reasons I picked up an SNES. The system was only 100 bucks then and I eventually talked my folks into getting me one for Christmas. I have played some of the Master System, though. Double Dragon was really fun, although after playing the GBA version it was hard to enjoy it as much. However, my brother-in-law's collection is lacking. He has Double Dragon, After Burner, R-Type, and the unheard-of-but-quite-good Psycho Fox. However, no Alex Kidd, no Shinobi, or Phantasy Star. He has Alf too, but only really because it's a MS game. It's as awful as you might expect.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 Psycho Fox was awesome! Although It's pretty much the same game as Kid Cool on the NES...dunno which came first though
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 Never heard of Kid Cool, but one of the GameFAQs reviews said PF was a *lot* like Decap Attack. I was surprised to see a glowing review about the Master System version of Bram Stoker's Dracula, saying it was a good game and easily the best out of any of the other games that were made of it. Naturally the GG version would be the same game, but haven't played either one. And who could forget the Game Boy? One of the longest running systems around, period. Not even counting GBC and Advance, too. I'd hoped to get the MMAC for GBA, because I've heard good things about the later GB Mega Man titles. However, the first MM game on GB was eh. I bought the 2nd Game Boy Mega Man...and beat it in one day. Easiest Mega Man game ever; easier than X4. Mario Land 2's good, but loved the first two Wario Land games. WL3 I didn't much care for. Kid Dracula is a very underrated Game Boy platformer. Character movement is kind of slow, but that's my only real complaint. Basically, you're Alucard as a little kid, levels resemble a mix of Mega Man and CV (you can charge your fireball into a stronger one, and gain multiple abilities kinda like MM, too). There's a similar NES game that never made it to the US, but oddly we still got the GB game. Link's Awakening--needs no introduction. A bit hard on the eyes these days, even the GBC-optimized one. Still plays great, though. Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge -- best of the GB CV games by far, and a pretty good game in its own right (for an OG style CV, of course). I've been playing Final Fantasy Adventure (aka Seiken Densetsu) off and on lately, as well.
Anya 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2005 I had an Atari 2600 and NES but was never really hardcore into games back then. Too many games where impossible and had no story or point besides getting a high score. It was hard to get into the action when the graphics where so primative. I hardly ever play anything from those times. Way too primative. The games just feel pointless. The 16 bit era was so great. Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat really sold me on SNES/Genesis and made me an obsessed hardcore gamer. I used to play both systems about equally. There were too many good exclusives back then, I don't know how you could live without both. The arcade scene was great too. I still play a lot of games from that era. With the best PSX/PS2 games so many of them are really long and epic. It's hard to just put in and play FF VII for a hour. With a lot of the old 16 bit games I can just put them in, play through them once and it's a good time. The other day a friend and I beat knights of the round. I have a SMS. Got it just because of Mortal Kombat 1-3.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2005 I remember as plain as day when my mother finally got me an Atari 2600, though it was the Sears licensed Telegames console. I had already been into pinball and arcade games dating back to 1975, and this was heaven to me. Of course there were disappointing games like Pac-Man, but there were games, like Defender, Stargate, Star Raiders, and the much-improved Ms. Pac Man. then I conned my mother is getting me an Atari 5200. The only game for it I had was Pac-Man, but that was enough... by then I was on the next thing; a Commodore 64c. Those were the "glory years" for me, because I could play games, do word processing and go online to BBSes. I never got an NES, and I did own a SNES for a time before I had to sell it for food. Shortly after that I met my then-roommate and she had everything.... NES, SNES, Genesis, 5200, 7800, and a 2600 collection that put most collectors to shame. Hell as much of a gamer as I was, I should have married the girl, and would have if things had turned out differently. I bought a PS1 in 96, I think.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2005 I've always been a Genesis man. I had both Sega and SNES back in the day. and i swore up and down that Genesis was 10x better than the SNES. I recently admitted that the SNES was actually better though. I had a Sega CD(never worked, sold it for 8 dollars). I had the 32X, which i loved! abowen33 says the Genesis with sega cd, 32x, sonic & knuckles, and a game in it was sega's attempt to reach the moon. Throw a game shark in there and you might be able to reach it. Random comments.... Fav SNES games....Mario Kart, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, Mario RPG I blindly consider myself the greatest Mario Kart player to walk the earth. I have yet to be proven wrong though. I have yet to see better graphics in a video game than Donkey Kong Counrty. Doom for 32X was freakin awesome. Star Wars for 32X was freakin impossible. I know nothing about video games.
