Do you think the world will end in 2012?

Recommended Posts

If there is one thing I hate thinking about, it's the end of the world.Of course, many people talk about how 2012 ends in some sort of calender year and that the world will be coming to an end. Now me, I'm not really affiliated with anyone, but this is one thing that bothers the hell out of me.

What do you all think?

I think it would be cool if Yellowstone National Park were to blow up. I can't think of a cooler way for the world to end.

No, I don't think it will be the end. Besides, I'd be more worried about other shit.

I only bothered to read the volcano one, but while it is all true, they kind of tried a little to hard to make it all scary like. A lot of geologists think Yellowstone may never erupt anytime in the next couple hundred million years.

Of course it should only be taken with a grain of salt, but I'm honestly much more worried about the so-called oil crash than anything nature may produce. I don't know the validity of such a thing, but it sounds both plausible and terrifying.

According to what i remember from the bible, i could be wrong, but i think there has to be 7 years of peace brought on by the anti-christ who claims to be the real messiah. People believe him cuz he brought peace to the world(after WW III), he promotes religious freedom, so people start to worship him, and worship other shit and turn away from god. So god gets pissed and murders everyone.

And the end of the world, is actually over a period of time, the end of days. I don't recall how long this will last, but it's natural disaster after disaster, then jesus comes down to save the good peeps, and the others are left to roam a fucked up earth for 1,000 yrs with satan.

So for the end according to the bible to happen...it would have to be past 2012.

people say 2012 cuz thats when the Mayan calander ends...but nobody really knows why it ends there, they probably just got tired of making the damn thing and said "Fuck it, thats long enough!"

I'm no theology expert here, but I'm almost certain Judgement Day hits and God takes away those he deems righteous enough prior to the Antichrist doing his thing...I'm sure I'm wrong, I haven't gone to church since I was 15...

nah it's anitchrist, then jesus saves the kids, then the final blow to destroy earth. It actually doesn't destroy earth. it makes it all a wasteland for all the sinners and the devil to wander. the actual judgement day is 1,000 years after that, when god comes down with the new jeruselum, he then judges all the sinners past and present one final time, all the good people get to enjoy the new earth. while i don't really know what happens to the others. they all die...again?

Yeah, the last time I went to church was over two and a half years ago. Everyone up there treated me badly because I hadn't been saved, and they would press the question on me. I just didn't feel ready. Finally, I was like screw this place and I haven't went back since and i don't think I'll be going anytime in the near future either. I have a whole different perspective on religion now. I'm N/A now.

christians sure do make it hard to become one, don't they?

ever watched one of the religious channels? just for shits and giggles or maybe even out of serious interest? the way they push religion and religious propaganda seems very similar to a certain, Jew-Snuffing war machine from the late 30s, early 40s...

The natural disasters don't concern me because we can't do shit about them. The oil one does worry me however because there are times when I do wonder just how much oil we have left

The question is not if, but rather WHEN the crisis will strike. The ever-optimistic oil industry says it will last until approximately 2020 -- giving us some head start, to test those nuclear fusion stations and replace our cars. But most economists think we will reach the Oil Peak sometime over the next few years -- before 2010. The leading Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO) calculates 2008 will be the year.

Like, I realise it's kind of a doomsday page, but...shit. Even 2020 isn't too far off, and I haven't heard much in the way of a new fuel the entire world can agree to.

I have worried about 2012 being the end. I keep thinking... ONLY 7 years left? No fucking way! I don't want to believe it, but something inside is making me beleive it. It freaks me the fuck out... all I know is... if that next pope dies in December of 2012... start freaking out...

God has to wipe out catholism before wiping out the sinners?

Well I remember a link a while back saying that after this pope, whenever the next one dies is when the end of the world will happen. It could very well happen in 2012.

And what about people who don't even use the Gregorian calendar?

By the Muslim calendar we still have 600 years to go, and by the Jewish calendar we've overshot that by almost four millenia

I don't think that this current Pope would make it all the way to 2012.

On the Catholic end of the world: Depending on how you interpret Revelations, some people *will* be saved before the really bad End-Times stuff occurs. These people will be only the real, true Christians (IE, not the people who go to church once a month), and God will simply call them up to Heaven so as to spare them the horrors of the end of the world (which will be very very nasty).

However, some people say that the Rapture (as it's called) won't happen until AFTER the end of the world is started, and some say it will be the first thing that happens, so I'm really not sure. The bottom line is though, if every good Christian you know suddenly dies for no real reason, get down on your knees and repent, asshole.

The stuff called for in Revelations is just insane. Not only do you have the Anti-Christ, who will not only perform miracles but return from the dead, but you have insane amounts of carnage - I think something like 2/3rds of all Jews will be killed (they and Christians will be persecuted), as well as a similar percentage of the rest of the planet.

Also, in what seems like a total slap-in-the-face, Revelations claims that when Jesus returns, every single Jew will suddenly realize that Jesus *is* the Messiah. What a prediction, eh? "When the world ends, you'll see how wrong you were!!"

But again, Revelations can be interpreted in different ways, but the stuff I mentioned seems to be at least a general concencus.

On the Mayans: The Mayans measured their calendar in terms of suns. When there was a solar eclipse, they considered that to be the death of one sun, and the birth of another. Their calendars correctly predicted a bunch of solar eclipses, and the next one they predicted is scheduled for 2012 - but, this sixth sun is apparantly the LAST sun. So there's *some* rationale for the 2012 thing, but I don't really buy it. I mean, a LOT of the Mayan culture was destroyed by the Spanish, so who knows what knowledge was lost? Maybe they thought there were supposed to be more suns, but all of their calenders indicating so were destroyed.

Anyway, as it stands, I don't think the world will end in 2012. But it might.

The Mayans actually predicted 2012 as the begining of the new "Golden Age" If I had more time, I'd google the website as proof.

I meant the one right after the current one.

So that's why people thought Hitler was the anti-christ. Ok, I haven't read the bible in a while now... that makes sense now.
