Slammiversary!

Recommended Posts

I know there's been just little hype so far, but it still looks like it could be great.

So far, the pre-show's on. Dusty has been made into a heel as everyone had cheered that he sucks. Raven made his way to the ring and fans want him in the KOTM match. Jarrett and Raven just got into it with each other and Jarrett took out a Jeff Hardy "fan". Jerry Jarrett's even out to stop it...maybe the rumors that Jarrett's gonna be out of the match is really true as maybe he'll be taken out because of his "behavior".

edit: Apollo and Siaki are out...SIMON DIAMOND IS BACK!!! Dammit, but he's now with Trytan???

RAVEN IS IN THE KOTM MATCH INSTEAD OF JARRETT!!!!

Honestly, I couldn't tell ya since I've never seen any other match with him. But he did some really nice power moves including the muscle buster. Didn't get to see the Ole kick, though. Was looking forward to it, too.

Its about fucking time Raven got a world title, and the respect he deserves. Now hopefully TNA can get fans to forget the squashes that he had to endure from Dustin Rhodes earlier this year.

Guest *KNK*

If they can chug along til the next PPV somehow and offer a kick ass card (thats their best hope, slapping a killer card for the smarks to order), I will order my first TNA ppv in a year.

They clearly are on the right track for the most part and it's shame there isnt tv for it.

Good to see Raven going back to his shirt and jeans look, I wasn't a big fan of his kilt look. Of course, it's also good to see Raven get the heavyweight title. What were the other results? Also, does anyone think(I didn't see the show, obviously, so I can't see how it was booked) this hurts AJ's credibility having a short reign after Jeff? And what was this thing with Jarret attacking a Hardy fan? Is that a shoot, or was it an angle?

I'm a huge Raven fan...but I'm upset that AJ was just a transition champion. Seriosuly, I thought he was going over.

Rest of the results:

-- Shark Boy def. Amazin Red, Elix Skipper, Delirious, Zack Gowen, and Jerelle Clark when he pinned Clark with a DSD.

-- Shocker def. Alex Shelly with an inverted cradle. Really good match that was given some time.

-- The Naturals def. Team Canada to retain the Tag Team Titles when Jimmy Hart returned and gave Chase Stevens the microphone and hit Petey Williams with it. Very good souther tag match where Andy Chase was just killed for most of the match by Team Canada.

-- Ron Killings def. The Outlaw with a roll up. Outlaw beatdown post match. He brought a chair into the ring and BG James came in and stole the chair. Outlaw told James to hit him with the chair, but he never did. Konnan came out and attacked Outlaw off and questioned James.

-- Samoa Joe def. Sonjay Dutt with the Island Driver followed with a Rear Naked Choke. Crowd was way into Joe.

-- Bobby Roode def. Lance Hoyt after D'amore distracted Hoyt and Roode hit the Northern Lights (a lariat to the back of the head). Post match beatdown on Hoyt. D'amore went for a moonsault but missed. Hoyt fought back and hit a moonsault on D'amore.

-- AMW def. 3LK when Outlaw came out and brawled with Konnan and AMW hit the Death Sentence on BG James. Story of the match was that both teams couldn't work together. Post match, James left the ring angry at Konnan and almost joined Outlaw going to the back.

-- Christopher Daniels def. Michael Shane and Chris Sabin in an Elimination Match to retain the X Divison title. Sabin pinned Shane with a Future Shock; Daniels pinned Sabin with an Angels Wings.

-- Raven def. AJ Styles, Monty Brown, Abyss, and Sean Waltman in a King of the Mountain Match to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

Your damn skippy.

And so it is written... and so it shall come to pass... ABOUT FUCKING TIME!

It does doesnt it! JJ go cry yourself a river and bury yourself somewhere, you piece of crap.

I feel for AJ, it seems that JJ cant stand the poor fella, because all he can do is screw him. I thought JJ was going to be a man, and accept not being da man for a while. Thank you Dixie, for sticking up to him. First person so far in 3 years.

and why a Hardy fan? At least attack a Styles or Raven fan

One can only hope that they're setting up for a Raven-Styles rematch and a Hardy-JJ feud ... if JJ attacked a Raven or Styles fan, that feud would be the logical next step.

Anyone else thinking, or just hoping for, a Raven/Joe feud?

Tenay and West were *really* putting Joe over on commentry and the crowd were definatly into him so there's a chance.

Although TNA does seem to have a habit of giving itself loads of great options like it has now in terms of where to go with the title picture, and then picking the worst possible one, which normally means more Jarrett.

I dont think so. JJ's been a very naughty boy from the looks of things and hes going to be in the mid-card for a while. I just hope that they let Brown destroy him first. :headbang:

Future oppenents for Raven: Styles, Waltman (yes, he does have a story with Raven), Brown, Abyss and Daniels. Thats what I see for now. Joe isnt a regular yet. Give him time.

Overall I think this was a good show, but this was one of the few TNA PPVs that I can remember that was saved by the ME. It almost reminded me of the Attitude era WWE PPVs where the top two matches were what brought the crowd back and saved the show. Here are my thoughts:

The opener started slow, but grew into the spotfest I was expected and was just long enough not to overstay its welcome. I just knew that Skipper or Red was going to win, so I was definitely surprised, in a good way, to see Sharkie pick up the win. I think TNA needs to capitalize on his popularity, give him a partner, and put them in the tag title mix.

I didn't get into Shocker and Shelley. Shocker just doesn't do it for me. I don't get why the guy gets such a push. I've only seen Shelley's TNA work so far, so he hasn't impressed me either yet, but I think he will when given the opportunity. Shocker though, I've given up on.

Truth/Outlaw was a decent hw bout, which TNA doesn't feature alot of, that had some decent backstory, but the ending was sloppy. The crowd clearly wants the Outlaws back together, and I wouldn't be surprised if TNA didn't give that too them tomorrow, but it's going to be interesting how they play the split, because if they feud them with the remainder of the Kru, the crowd's not going to boo anybody.

I'm glad they tried to keep the Naturals strong because I thought they change the title here to have a moment on the big show (little did I know what was coming, but I digress). Jimmy Hart as the mentor was a nice twist and should be enough to keep them babyfaces. I gotta say I was expected Shane to form a new Triple Threat, but when I saw him doing interviews, I figured they had something else planned.

Joe was impressive. That was the first time I've ever seen him, so I guess I'm the kinda fan TNA has to introduce him to, but for one, I'm sold. His high impact moves were great and I think he can be built into a solid main eventer for the company.

Hoyt and Rude was way better than it had any right to be and I gotta tell you, I still can't believe how over Hoyt is. Did a miss a killer promo or something? Fans actually had Hoytamania shirts. That's unbelievable. But anyway, he did a good job playing face in peril and having him against Team Canada will probably help his heat. The screwy finish means we'll probably have some sort of gimmick match (I'm guess a flag match) at the next PPV, which is good because TNA needs to establish a mid card (a secondary title would fit perfectly in this feud IMO) and since they don't have TV, carrying a feud over is probably a good thing.

I was watching the replay since I was out with my father until about nine last night and didn't get much sleep the night before, so I was fighting sleep the whole show, but the AMW/3LK ended my battle. I fell asleep halfway through the match and woked up at 3 am, so I'm glad I'd recorded it.

Before I finished the tape, I was down on the show overall. It seemed like an extended version of Impact more than TNA (2nd?) biggest show of the year. But luckily, the two main matches delivered for me. Daniels really showed why he's TNA's MVP not named AJ Styles and I'm sure at this time next year, he'll be competing in main events. TNA finally gets it with him. I also like that for perhaps the first time in TNA history, we have a dominant heel champion who doesn't ALWAYS cheat to win. They are doing everything right with Daniels that they did wrong with Petey in my book. He was clearly heel of the night for that vicious Angel's Wings on Trinity. That was the spot that woke me up from my nap, though I dosed back off before the match ended. lol. I liked that they made it an elimination match so that the match was able to move beyond Shane and Sabin to being about the title. Shane and Sabin still have unfinished business though, so I can see them having a match at the next show as well. They'll probably feed Shark Boy to Daniels based on his win, but I see that more as an Impact main event than a PPV match. The difference is that Daniels will give enough to Sharkie to make it a worthwhile match, unlike when JJ squashed him a few months ago.

I really enjoyed the KotM match. They missed a couple of spots with shoddy camera work and didn't play up the times when more than one guy was in the penalty box, but otherwise, no complaints. The match seemed like a big deal, did a good job of unbitching Monty Brown and had moments where it seemed like him, Abyss, Styles and then finally Raven would win.

Raven's win was kinda out of left field, but it made for an awesome moment and isn't as unexpected as everyone thinks. Think about it...there's the huge popularity of ECW right now (notice that Raven went back to his ECW look last nite?) and secondly, since Styles seemingly is going to want revenge on Waltman, we'll probably see Jarrett say that he deserves the shot since he couldn't defend his KotM title and we'll finally see Jarrett/Raven II next month. It makes a lot of sense considering TNA's current state. That's probably the one match that their fanbase has been waiting to see and they can sell almost strictly based on the backstory. They can play up Jarrett's backstage stroke vs. Raven's destiny and them battling over who's really the King of the Mountain. Plus, after the reaction Raven got witth the belt, I doubt TNA is gonna be able to keep him as heel, but they need to be careful in that they don't turn him into a p***y when they turn him face like they did before. The people like the bad ass Raven and that's what he needs to be. What better way than to cement Raven as a face them have him conquer the fans number one nemesis? It will probably be some sort of gimmick match, I'd say either HoF, or considering the name of the event, I Quit. Styles/Waltman will probably be on the undercard, and as long as they don't book Abyss/Brown again, I'll be happy. Either way, TNA has certainly given themselves some strong possibilities to survive the dark months.

So overall, I'd say this show was good, better than Victory Road, but not as good as Turning Point or Final Resolution (those are the only TNA PPVs I've seen so far).

Overall I thought the show was strong and by the end of it, I was buzzing on how they gave the belt to Raven and how this could be the start of something real good. Needless to say this was long overdue to happen. I like Styles and everything but I just wasnt feeling this title reign at all, as I think they tried with Styles and Jarrett for 3 years and neither got the company really over as a whole. Styles long term can draw as champ but he needs top notch heel opponents and at this time, it's just not there or at least his potential opponents would be something that we've already seen before, such as Abyss, etc. The only other thing would have been to hotshot the belt onto Brown, but I think that (as well as Styles ever regaining the title) can be done with a well planned out title chase scenario. Raven already had it before (the title chase) and that one single promo in the ring versus Jarrett as well as that fantastic promo he did on the actual ppv, in no time flat, got him back in the title picture and even better, was so well done by Raven himself it warranted him winning the title. Just made perfect booking sense and you saw the crowd "feel it" too. No need to have Raven chase the belt was neccessary.

The best/worst part was the Raven working with Jarrett thing, which will surely lead to a long awaited rematch between Jarrett and Raven, and the best/worst part of it all is that it will either mean Raven finally gets that big win over him or else Jarrett regains the title. Obviously with the rumblings I've been hearing, I dont think there's a chance at all of Jarrett getting the belt back and especially under this scenario. He's getting into the TNA doghouse very fast after losing that power, unless the backstage news about him refusing the KOTM match involvement is all a work to build heat on Raven/Jarrett and nothing more. There was alot of comments during the Raven/Jarrett segment on the pre-show which could have been taken possibly as shoot and/or an attempt to knock against Jarrett publicly also by the writers. Part of me thinks Raven winning was done just to spite Jarrett and then to take that a step further, so will be having Jarrett putting over Raven FINALLY in a rematch since that was so clearly the wrong desicion of Jarrett over Raven two years ago. It's almost like the booking team saw just how bad for business the Jarrett situation has gotten and have decided it's time to force Jeff to be a team player and put over others or else it's him outright refusing to do things, which will have him leaving the company sooner than later if that keeps up (and also exposing him to any Jarrett supporters within the company).

Anyway the main event was obviously pretty good. Lots of good action and general fun stuff to watch. Waltman going heel on Styles is smart as that can be a decent feud if its anything like their last. Abyss is now kind of out without a new program, and the same with Brown, although he can still play off with Jarrett and do the turn. A returning Jerry Lynn could easily be incorporated into a program against both of them as well. Daniels continues to impress and shine, they might as well keep the belt on him until a real worthy contender appears. The other X division matches were all good too, although I was goofed out on having Shark Boy go over all that other talent. He's a fine novelty act but he just doesnt ring X division to me really, plus he'd be much better back as a tag team with DRay or something. Jimmy Hart with the Naturals = two thumbs up for sure, although I thought having Tammy Sytch come in to manage them would have been very cool too. A few of the matches were weak, but overall a solid show with legitimate surprises, so I can't complain too much. They do need to get done with this 3LK stuff with Outlaw though, and just go ahead and do the NAO team again. Also AMW needed to go full out heel here on this ppv. One thing I did kind of expect though was something to be noted with either Jeff or Matt Hardy, especially when the fan plant was of a Hardy fan.
