One thing that's always bugged me though...why is VPW 2 called VPW 2?

First there was VPW for the PSX

Then there was VPW 64 for the N64

Then there was the sequel to VPW 64, the third in the series, and they call it VPW 2?

Just to let everyone know, Lego Star Wars for PS2 and Xbox will be on sale for $20 at Circuit City starting next Sunday. It's an incredibly fun game, but is too short and easy to warrant the full purchase price, but at $20, it's well worth buying. Just in time for my birthday!

I recently got a Captain America & The Avengers machine. I would have to say it has some of the best voice acting ever. Gaming just isn't the same without super hero based beat em ups.

Yeah, "I can't mooooove!" is funny. I also love how when you get to Ultron it's like "WHERE IS THE LASER!?" and he goes "ask the police". Huh? Why would the police know where the laser is and if they do why haven't they just told Captain instead of making him go fight mini-Juggernaught in Red Skull's Evil Lair?

X-Men is a great game and one I plan on getting whenever I can. The only thing really stopping me is the size of the 6 player version. I thought about getting the 4 player version but it wouldn't be the same.

multi-player beat em ups really were awesome, weren't they? Avengers, X-Men, TMNT 1 and 2, The Simpsons, Sunset Riders, the game with Captain Commando...damn those were the good ol' days...

by the way, can someone identify a game for me? it's a 4 player game, came out in the arcades back in 91 or 92...the premise is 4 soldiers going over to the middle east, basically shadowing the gulf war...there were levels where you'd run around but also levels where you could hop on jeeps and such...I can picture this game in my head but can't remember the name for the life of me...

The "Game Over / Continue" screen in the arcade Ninja Gaiden is one of the best ever. I look forward to (maybe) seeing it in the Easy version of the Xbox game (with unlockable Arcade game) that comes out this year....

.... that is the game with the whrilling saw blade coming down on you, right?

My copy of Minna Daisuki Katamari Damacy arrived yesteday, and it's glorious. The gameplay, while remaining true to its roots, is improved by greatly adding to the variety of goals in the increased amount of levels, and the soundtrack is a marked improvement over KD's, which is saying a lot. The graphics are sharpened a bit, which is nice, and the presentation overall is a lot more polished (and flamboyant) than KD.

Also, the cutscenes in this one deal with the past of the King of the Cosmos. They're fantastic. Much funnier and more interesting than the ones dealing with the creepy family in KD.

I am currently saddened since I've finished the first 2 Interactive Tex Murphy adventure games (the second for the second time) and I'm dissapointed that the series was never able to continue, or that there aren't more games like it.

My Day of Defeat team came 4th at Summer CPL, dissapointed I couldn't go, but we had no sponsorship, and too expensive for me to fly out from Oz.

^ that is correct...

I could never get past the level where you have to jump from branch to branch over this lake, the whole time these monster things keep popping out to knock you off...

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 5 will be released on next-gen consoles PS3 and Xbox 360 - but not Nintendo's Revolution.

The sequel's action will take place in sunlit urban environments rather than the series' usual doom and gloom-laden interiors.

Early screenshots have also revealed a Chris Redfield look-alike in the lead role hinting that the plot might a take a turn back towards the Racoon cityscape of Code Veronica and, most importantly, mark a return for the zombies, according to Japanese games magazine Famitsu.

Capcom's decision to release Resi 5 for PS3 and 360 only will dismay many Nintendo gamers after Capcom appeared to have signed up to develop many of its high profile titles for Gamecube exclusively, even if recent games such as Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4 have made their way to Sony's stable.

While speculation is certain to snowball until the game is finally released in 2006, two things are certain: the over-the-shoulder view of Resident Evil 4 will be kept; and the project has been placed in the safe hands of Jun Takeuchi, the producer of the Onimusha series.

Final Fight always has cool game over/continue screens. The one in The Punisher(arcade) is good too.

Megaman is the best platforming series. Better than Mario or Sonic or any modern franchise.

I'm a big Mega Man fan, but completely disagree.

Mega Man 2 > SMB 3

Yoshi > X (which is still excellent)

And I'm not even counting Mario 64 since it wouldn't be fair. I like Tron Bonne/Legends, too.

But the music is so catchy and the boss design is so good. Just look at Iceman, he's so cute.

Great games, still, yeah.

Capcom seems to be the only company that doesn't screw US gamers over with their compilations. Hyper + Third Strike instead of separately, the Mega Man Anniversary Collection instead of Rockman Complete Works, and Capcom Classics Collection instead of all those separate Generations collections.

We may never see the GBA Anniversary Collection, but small gripe.

Although the SF Collections on PS1/Saturn are still basically the same thing they did in Japan.

MMAC gave us all of the MM games plus those arcade games that were crappy, but they gave in to demand and added them. Mega Man X Collection is going to be getting enhancements, plus we get to play the rare X2 and X3.

Meanwhile, Sega does a half-ass job on their compilations, and Konami won't even make any decent compilations at all. Konami has 2 on GBA of old arcade stuff; The NES Castlevanias and Contras ended up on PC shovelware. They won't let anyone play the PC Engine Castlevania through emulation and crack down on any sites showing it even though they're not releasing it. They put out a PS1 game called "Castlevania Chronicles" that is ONE old PC game, instead.

And even though Konami has tons of great arcade titles and currently has the TMNT license, they use the first arcade game to try to sell the crappy Battle Nexus when everyone would much rather see the old arcade games in a compilation.

The GBA MM collection is still coming, only now it's on DS.

Capcom needs to put SF1 on a collection. The anniversary edition should have been 1, 2 AND 3. It's stupid to celebrate the 15th anniversary and just pretend the game that is actually 15 years old never happaned.

I saw that article on 1up. It seems like they're putting words in the creator's mouths. They say it may not be on GBA anymore but they didn't conclusively say it was going to DS. So they still have to finish making it. It's been delayed about 5 times already. The original Bomber is going to be 18 before we get the portable game celebrating his 15th birthday.

I really don't think they'd want to put it on DS either. They were supposedly putting custom borders in for Game Boy Player, etc, plus the GBA is still outselling the DS. It seems weird to see companies like Capcom and Sega being unable to emulate these old games.

(Oh, and Renegade confirmed that the Panzer Dragoon in Orta is the PC version. So no Saturn games have been properly emulated yet.)

The Game Boy games weren't as good as the NES ones, though.

I see why they wouldn't include SF1, but they may not get that some people get entertainment out of playing crappy old fighters. Obviously that plus the historical value accounts for your interest.

Nobody is begging for 2010, though.

There's just never been a good home version of SF1. They're all crappy or on obscure systems. It seems like most people have never even seen it. It's like the series started with SF II.

After seeing some speed runs of Super Metroid, I decided I'm going give it a try. Not expecting great results but might be fun. I love all the random self-destructs going on during the series.

Yeah, what's up, gonna try me some Substance right about now. I'm stuck on Fatal Frame because I'm inept. I can't believe how I went from hating on it to adoring it instantly. Now I can't get anyone to play the damn thing. I hope Long Arms pops up on you all and takes back what was his.

^ I loved that game!

when you die: "I CAN'T MOVE!"

I would love to own a 6 player version of the X-Men game, myself...

Mandarin is the most quotable...

"See my pow-aaaah!!!"

As for game cabinets, I have an Ultracade with the standard 80+ games as well as all the Williams / Midway / Atari games and Galaga, Pac-Man, and Ms. Pac Man, which are currently unavailable due to rights issues.

I'd be more of an originalist on the arcade machines if I actually had the room to store more than one cabinet.

I figure if I ever buy a vintage cabinet, it will HAVE to be Tron because that's my favorite game of all time. I mean, that's why I bought that god-awful Tron 2.0 for the GBA, as it came with the original Tron as well as Deadly Discs Of Tron.

I don't really like Ultracade or Mame cabinets. The whole point of collecting to me is the original artwork and all that. I get that it takes a lot of space but even if I could only have one I would rather have something like MK II. The exception is Ultracade's Street Fighter Anniversary machine, that's really cool. I'd like to get one when they are cheaper.

I have 16 games now, which is pretty crazy. I've ran out of room in two different rooms now and am going to have to start a third. I've got the Neo Geo in my kitchen right now.

Lately I've been spending more time and money on arcade collecting than console gaming. Since I got really into this aspect of the hobby console gaming has seemed less exciting.

I've still got so many unopened or barely played games, yet I'm tempted to pick up Lego Star Wars ($20), Splinter Cell Chaos Theory ($25), and Conker: Live and Reloaded ($40), all on sale this week, with birthday money.

Even when I am home and able to play games, I spend more time reading, watching TV, talking on the phone, or fucking around online.

If I ever get a bigger house that will allow me to get more than about 3 cabinets, I'd consider doing what you do.

My limitations, though, are mainly of the space and logisitcal variety at the moment.

If I was able to get about 12 game cabinets in addition to my Ultracade, they'd probably be the following:

1. Tron

2. Sinistar

3. Track And Field

4. Neo Geo 6-ROM switcher (I'd get all the Metal Slug games as well as Super Spy, Bust A Move / Puzzle Bobble, Sengoku, Ghost Fighters, etc.)

5. Space Invaders or Space Invaders Deluxe

6. Super Punch-Out

7. Peter Pack-Rat (an obscure game by Atari)

8. Mortal Kombat or Mortal Kombat II

9. Satan's Hollow (an obscure shooter from the mid-80s by Midway)

10. Cloak & Dagger (Robotron-like spy game by Atari)

11. Star Wars (1980 color vector version) or Star Wars Trilogy (1997 version with Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi)

12. Any 1 of the following: X-Men, Spiderman, Captain America And The Avengers, Sunset Riders, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, Aliens, Alien Vs. Predator, or The Punisher. (Pretty much any of the Konami 4-player games or one of the other licensed franchise games by Data East et all)
