Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 Aye, ZP's good stuff. I think my favorites are Jericho, Guitar Hero 3, and the Game Developers Choice Awards. Although I like the Orange Box review if only because I like Portal and people positively reviewing things that I like.
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 Just wondering if anyone has any good (region 1) websites for buying games? Mainly for Wii / Gamecube. I know about Play-Asia.com but was wondering if there were any cheaper/ better stocked websites around. Apparently I'm getting a Wii freeloader (looks like they've worked it out) and I want to get cheap games at a reasonable release time. Are you talking about Imports or North American releases? I don't see why anyone would use Play-Asia for anything other than imports as their Region 1 prices always seem to be higher than most American franchises, and their shipping usually takes forever. Personally, I'd go with Amazon. They're always having good sales or markdowns from the list price.

Broward83 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 Welp, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is out. Played a few online matches, pretty solid however I hate the Oriental casino in the game, just too much ambient noise. Respawn limit is hit or miss really, turns most matches into a "kill the other team first" instead of securing the objective. Haven't gone into story mode yet, but Terrorist Hunt is nice. ACES system is pretty seemless in the game and gives you a real reason to play instead of trying to grind it out to Elite to gain weapons/armor/camo.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 is Rainnbow Six still team based or have they moved on to straight up FPS?
Broward83 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2008 Still team based. You move around with Jung and someone else that I can't remember during most modes of play. At any time, a friend can jump in and play the role of "Knight" and help you clear objectives. Everything in the game you do earns you XP and depending on the kill or how you clear a room, you rank up your ACES to unlock the weapons. There's a code out to unlock the TAR-21 which when just starting out gives you a boost as its a nice assault rifle.

I also felt that Play-Asia is probably more expensive than other websites. Also I think the government is cracking down on import tax on online bought goods over here. My friend got taxed a shitload on a gamecube memory card and a toon link teddy he got from play-asia. I figure the package from play-asia mightent have been marked "gift" or he just got unlucky with random spot checks. Either way I'm a bit wary with Play-Asia. Oh, and personally I can't really stand Zero Punctuation. "Blah blah blah everything sucks"; I get it.

jwest27 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 I don't think I've ever had a game crash on me as many times as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II, fully patched even. Way back when, X-Play's review of the game said to expect to invest upwards of 10-20 hours (depending on how quickly you move through everything) before finally getting your first Lightsaber. I've never played anything beyond the first hour or so, so I don't know how accurate that is.
Broward83 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Found this out at work (Gamestop) yesterday: Apparently, with Madden coming back for its 20th year, EA is going to release a 20th Anniversary edition of Madden that will include a copy of NFL Head Coach 09. It'll be released the same time that Madden is, but we don't have an exact price on it yet. The e-mail said you'd be able to create custom playbooks in Head Coach, then import them over to Madden and use those.

In which case, it would make Head Coach worth about $10-$20, considering the usual markup of the Anniversary editions is $10-$20 on its own without an entirely separate new game being included. Broward83 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Yeah, we finally got it up on our reserve list a few days ago. It's listed at 89.99. I mean, I guess its a good combo if you're going to be playing both games and were a fan of the first Head Coach.

Guest Smues Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Has anyone else played Lost Odyssey for the 360? I hadn't heard much about it but I got it for my birthday and have found it surprisingly enjoyable and difficult. I'm sure the fact that it's a turn based RPG with random battles turns a lot of people off, but not me. I'm only 7 or 8 hours into it but the story has got me hooked, and I really like the difficulty of the battles thus far. Not that far into the game and already 2 or 3 bosses have smoked my ass and taken a long time to figure out how to beat. My only real complaint thus far is how many damn cut scenes there are and how long they take. I'm generally not anti-cut scene, but christ at least let me play the game a little bit before you bombard me with them. And I don't imagine they go away, as the game is FOUR discs. I don't think I have any other 360 games that are more than 1 disc.
Broward83 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Alot of the cutscenes are forgotten memories of the main character that you unlock thru either going to certain places or doing certain things. There's an achievement for getting them all or something.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 As long as it's not worse than Xenosaga. I haven't played a good turn-based RPG in forever. Then again I have so much more to play I'm not sure if I want to get myself started. Lost Odyssey's got its share of cutscenes, but you can pause and skip them, so I'm cool with it. Plus, if Xenosaga had Jansen I could tolerate it more. The game's okay but if you've played through disc 1 you've played through the whole game more or less. Anya's basically got the game beat and very little actually *happens* and the game's battle/skill system is about as dull and ancient as they come. It feels more like Final Fantasy...oh, IV...than its modern peers. Maybe when they fix the controls and camera (Assassin's Creed)'ll be a respectable series, but that was just b-a-d BAD. Those aren't the problems, actually. It's more the repetitious game design that's the problem; the missions that never change much and aren't any fun anyway. I can't imagine what you found problematic about the controls except combat (the rest is easy). Combat isn't the games' focus (and that part is supposed to be hard anyway), and aggressive approaches to combat simply don't work well--it's supposed to be that way. If you think it's a "bad" game than you must live in quite the happy little fantasy land of little else but super A+ games. It is a game that is nothing like how it was originally planned, and somewhat collapsed under its own ambition. Remember that part in the tutorial about working your way through lines of people and crowds? Did you *ever* do that in game? Thought not. Assassin's Creed circa 2005 game concepts isn't the same beast as Assassin's Creed the 2007 retail release. Story was good until the end, and then they seemed to realize that they'd booked themselves into a corner, threw some hidden writing on the walls and called it an ending. They knew it was going to be a series from the beginning. Like it or not, it's probably what was planned. Hop back into the Animus and check the little attachment at the end of the last chapter. It's the ending. Yes, in text form! The story is fine, but the switch in tone is annoying.

Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Is it "Comments that don't warrant a NEW thread" or "Comments that don't warrant BUMPING a thread"?
Guest Report post Posted April 11, 2008 The former. This thread should be for things like talk about SEGA Genesis , XBLA, "these new faceplates were made available for the 360," you know, stuff like that. Somewhere along the line this thread started to get ridiculous, and then... Mole kinda consolidated way too much stuff into here, and I don't want that. Let's put it this way though, if you want to talk about, say, FIFA 08, if there's not a thread about it, just post in here. A title that is critically acclaimed should have its own thread, if you want to post about it and it's not there, make it, please. Basically, anything 6-7 months and older that doesn't already have its own thread should be fair game for in here, although I'd prefer if you'd use the relative system threads for current-gen. The reason why I want that is because everything got posted in here, and when searching for opinions about something, it was a bit hard to find. If I ever close this, I'll just do the same thing that was done to the WWE Folder.
Guest Smues Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Oh come on don't close this thread. I'd rather use this thread for a random game like Lost Odyssey then have to go to the 360 thread.
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 But if somebody responds to your Lost Odyssey talk, then it becomes a discussion that warrants a thread. It's a circular system. You can't have a topic for EVERY game, so you have to have a "random thoughts" or "CTDWAT" thread; but it's impossible to know when your comment that doesn't warrant a thread is a comment that'll spawn a discussion that will warrant a thread. Either way mods end up moving stuff around/starting new topics, so it's sort of....irrelevant? I can't think of the right word that would mean "Whether you close this or not, the random thoughts thread will inevitably spawn a discussion that needs moving, therefore the mod workload remains the same regardless".
