Huh? Reptile is one of the most common characters, he's been in nearly all of the games. The only exceptions are regular MK3(and he's right back in UMK3) and Deception(and his body is in that, he's just posessed).

He's in original, II, UMK3, 4 and DA.

Isn't he the badguy's body now?

Yeah, he's Onaga's vessel in Deception. But in Sindel's ending he reverts back to his old human form, so he'll surely be back. Besides, even though he sat out(sort of) Deception he was in UMK3, 4 and DA. 3 games in a row. Reptile is high up on the list of characters with the most appearances.

He's in Shaolin Monks. Look to be playable.

For anyone who isn't aware of it, I strongly recommend reading the MK Plot Guide on GameFAQs.

Yeah it's great(Gavok's, not the other). Too bad he's been too busy to update it. Plus I'm a credited contributor for it, so it must be good.

If you find the time to not post here and not play one of your hundred arcade machines, you should write a SF Plot Guide. I don't care for the one I read there and you seem knowledable enough to write one, perhaps with assistance from TS.

I don't have access to the Japanese books and all that, so I wouldn't be any good making a SF plot guide.

My expertise is MK and Tekken. With MK there's not much of a need since Gavok's is so good and anything he didn't catch I just told him about anyway. I actually started doing a Tekken one but got bored quickly. It's too much work. Tekken needs one BADLY though, there's almost as much misinformation about that then there is about MK.

I'm always amazed at how much BS is spread about the MK story. Actually just MK in general. Seems like the majority of fans still believe Ermac is in MK1 and just earlier today I saw some guy claim Raiden and Shao Kahn being brothers is true.

Yeah, Reiko. Poor guy, he started out as Noob Saibot, got changed into Reiko at the last minute and now everyone thinks he's Kahn. He has no identity of his own.

Havik also started out as Noob. That's two different characters that were originally Noob.

SC3 comes out October 25th. Right around the corner. I'm already searching for GameStops that are gonna run scrub tournies for store credit.

So in the Tekken story, how did they justify all the people coming back in T5 that weren't in T3? Were they all just "missing" for 25 years?

Ganryu had retired. He's only back because he's in love with Julia.

Baek was in a coma after Ogre kicked his ass, then started training soldiers in the Korean military.

Bruce was working as a merc and survival instructor. I guess Lei was right to suspect he had faked his death.

Roger Jr's dad was chilling out at Dr. B's lab.

That's pretty much it. Most of those characters had just not been mentioned since Tekken 2. With the exception of Baek none of them had ever actually fought Ogre. The whole thing about him killing people to learn their moves was just fan speculation. Everyone just assumed that if they weren't in T3 they must be dead, which makes no sense since Ogre has a bunch of moves of people that are alive and well. Kazuya was alive during 3 and Ogre has the gut punch. Kuma(original) died of old age and he has the bear hug. Anna is IN Tekken 3 and he has her while rising punch moves. Ogre just had people's moves because.....Namco is lazy.

People just vanish in Tekken and MK all the time. It's pretty dumb. Where is Michelle anyway? She hasn't been seen since Julia's T3 ending and we don't know if that actually happened or not. She'll probably just randomly show up someday as if she was never gone.

Soul Edge has a great story, better written and presented than Tekken and MK by far. I just don't like it as much because NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. They've been stalling since SC1 ended. Move away from Seigfried having Soul Edge already!

Anya, is Shaolin Monks going to be decent?

I'd like an educated MK-fan response on the matter, so I figure there is none too many better suited for the job than yourself. I haven't particularly seen that much of it, but MK always has a bizarre way of hooking just a little of my interest before a game is released. All MK spin-offs I've played have been totally abysmal, so I must say that I do not have very high expectations of this one.

What's your call on this one?

Don't knock Seigfried/Nightmare. He's my favorite SC character to play when I'm screwing around. Sure he's slow as hell but his up/down swings and his grapple "bash your face in with my sword hilt" attacks are fun.

Anya hasn't played Shaolin Monks, and she actually asked for my take on it since I have played the demo. The controls for the platforming sections are pretty bad. Otherwise, it's alright for what it is, but I wouldn't drop 40-50 bones on the final game, personally.

If they fix the platforming sections in the final, or keep them to a minimum, the game'll be pretty fun. However, it doesn't seem to be anything groundbreaking.

Yeah, I don't know. I've barely been following it's development. At first I was apathetic to it and now that I'm getting hyped it's so close to release I'm just going to wait and not get the demo. I'm pretty much going to go in blind.

From what I've heard it's apparently good. I've even seen a lot of MK haters saying it's fun.

I didn't have high expectations for it originally but it's not really fair to compare it to MKM and MKSF. SM was made by a totally different team that wasn't even part of Midway when the project first started. Boon is aware the other two side games sucked and is trying to make sure this one doesn't since he wants to do lots of side games now. He even brought up the idea of a MK rpg a couple days ago.

I am hoping a game based on MK3 is next. The story is basically perfect for a RPG or adventure game.

Now an MK RPG would be a great idea... a co-op RPG ala BGDA would be better. Maybe even going along the lines of Jade Empire.

Apparently, some early reviews of Shaolin Monks have been quite positive. Controls are always an issue in one way or another with a Mortal Kombat game, so I am not surprised to hear they are not exactly top notch in this one either.

There's no way in sweet hell I'll charge in blind, this is definitely a title to rent first.

I hope they explain what happened to Kintaro. He's one of the most underdeveloped characters. Despite being a boss we know like nothing about him.

PS3 GPU less powerful than GeForce 7800.

The Inquirer reports that an nVIDIA spokesperson was quoted in the magazine saying that the RSX GPU is basically a slightly less powerful GeForce 7800.

That means that almost a year before launch, there’s a PC graphics chip that is more powerful than the RSX GPU found in the PlayStation 3. And make no mistake, this is not a crazy, speculative conclusion ; this comes straight from the company that makes both parts: the RSX and GeForce 7800 graphics processing units.

Not really an earth-shattering news item, but at least it helps ground speculation about PS3's power a little more in reality.

I won't be shocked at all if it turns out PS3 is weaker than the 360, or about even. I expect them to each do certain things a little better, though.

(Note: Yeah, I noticed the source, but it isn't like they're the only ones supporting it. That article also claims 360 got more raw power, although just on paper now.)

There are few less relevant stats than pure processing power.

The XBox DWARFED PS2 in terms of power and never led. Hell, they never even maximized what the XBox could do.

People who spank it to specs of systems are insane.

We go through this every generation and then they all end up being basically the same and being able to play the same games.

Because my memory of the Double Dragon storyline isn't good (and possibly distorted by the fact that I CAN remember some of the cartoon series where I believe they do mention the "bad brother" turning face), what is the story? My 80s memory of the NES has me thinking that one brother (let's say Billy Lee) was good and Jimmy Lee (or vice versa) was bad but changed his ways by the time Double Dragon II came out for the NES (re: by the time they made it co-op). This contradicts the fact that both brothers were playable in the arcade version.

In the arcade version both Jimmy and Billy were good. The story was that Willy and his gang had kidnapped Marian so they went to save her.

When they ported it to NES they couldn't do the two player thing so they just turned Jimmy evil and had you fight him. Then in the NES DDII they just claimed he had seen the light and now was good.

I don't know, arcade I guess. I don't think anyone cares enough to decide one way or another.

I almost bouth a DD arcade a few months ago. It's a lot better than the NES one.

The SMS version of Double Dragon was pretty good too. I liked it a lot better than the NES version.

The ending is a bit weird, though. If you play a two-player game and both players make it to the end, you have to fight each other.

How do they explain that?

You had to do the same thing in the arcade version, too.... And I never got to the end of DD2 playing co-op, so I don't know if the same thing held true.

As for console power, its the same pissing contest that started back with the NES and the Master System and hasn't stopped since.

EDIT: I take that back. It started back when the Intellivison and Colecovision were butting heads and the Atari tried to trump them both with the 5200.
