Mik Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 After he broke the record, Cabrera and Mora mobbed him. I thought that was pretty funny. Just unreal. When Pudge brought him a drink, Abreu said..."Thank you. You're so gentle." All the HRs and a sense of humor.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 This is one of the downsides of the derby. Usually one or two guys who can't get a homer. Can't help but feel bad for them. It's all fun, but it can't feel to great to go up there on a grand stage and not hit a single ball out.
iliketurtles Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Now I want to see what he's got left in the tank for the 2nd round.
Matt Young Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 After Steve Nash's NBA MVP award, Jason Bay reminded me that most Canadians suck at sports except for hockey and pro wrestling.
Guest Smues Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back back fuck I hate Berman.
smh810 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 damn I missed Abreu's explosion but I did see Sam Ryan looking quite hot as she tried to hump Johnny Damon.
eiker_ir Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 gotta love Bob, viva Venezueeeela! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 This derby is getting awfully boring. You just can not produce a three hour home run exhibition.
devo Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Goddamn. The crowd completely died when Ortiz stepped up to the plate.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Yeah. The novelty is long gone by time the second round rolls around. And damn, Damon sounds like such a braindead jackass when he talks.
strummer Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Anyone know if ESPN still does the "Celebrity" Softball Game after the derby?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Didn't see this..but all those HRs were the last thing I was expecting considering where they were having this.
snuffbox Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Anyone know if ESPN still does the "Celebrity" Softball Game after the derby? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Winfield is the only player I've ever shook hands with at a game (Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays in 1992). My Grandparents and I were sitting behind the visitors dugout and it was a bit before the game and he was out in front of the dugout...
Mik Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Looks like my boy was Al's boy's main cheerleader and shadow tonight. I was actually rooting for Abreu. Dragged a bit, but the right man won.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Since when was Jon Lovitz a celebrity? He hasn't been in a movie in forever..
the pinjockey Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 I can't believe how much Cabrera looks like a 12 year old. I swear at one point it looked like Ortiz was going to pat his head and give him a cookie. IMO, they need to go to a pitching machine next year. It is insane to have stretches where someone will go 5 or 6 pitches without swinging. Everyone can have the machine set to where they want and they can take one pitch per swing to get into their timing. Either that or they have to cut a round. I was just begging for it to get over by the end. And I can't believe during Abreu's 2nd round, after he put up a 24 spot, that they use that time to devote to Selig, steroids, and Rogers. "Well we don't want the Rogers stuff to ruin the festivities, but let's spend 20 minutes on it instead of talking about the man who made history 45 minutes ago." Fuck you ESPN. Well, I feel better now.
KingPK Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 I know. Selig just droned on and on and on and ON. The guy needs LESS facetime on TV, not more. Put a spokesman out there instead that can actually keep people interested in what he's saying.
Stephen Joseph Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Damn it Ortiz lost <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Phuck That. We all just witnessed a record-shattering moment. Complete domination, it was so crazy. A great moment for baseball.
snuffbox Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Once again the Derby lost me after an hour or so...but it sure is fun for that first hour. I caught the rest of the highlights later. Pretty impressive showing by Abreu.
Crimson Platypus Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Damn it Ortiz lost <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Phuck That. We all just witnessed a record-shattering moment. Complete domination, it was so crazy. A great moment for baseball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A great moment for baseball? Take it easy there skippy, it was just batting practice.
nl5xsk1 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 damn I missed Abreu's explosion but I did see Sam Ryan looking quite hot as she tried to hump Johnny Damon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Best. Post. Of the day.
Brett Favre Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 So proud of Venezuela and the Dominican Republic
Fartsauce Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 This is a few days after the derby but it seems to me the reason this got boring so fast is because Detroit doesn't have anything exciting in the seats. What I mean is...they don't have any major 2nd, 3rd, or higher decks that a player could hit a ball into and go "WOW". The derby is much more interesting at parks with stuff to hit in the outfield, or multiple decks to hit the ball into. Just my theory though.
