Screwed: The Bret Hart Story

The WWE is a like a girlfriend who brakes up with you and tells you to get over it, but won't stop talking about you to her friends and keeps calling you years later.

I'm looking forward to the WM 6-10 pack in particular.

WM 6: Main event, Andre face turn, bazillion 5 minute matches with wrestlers I loved as a kid

WM 7: Warrior/Savage and Rockers/Barbarian&Haku

WM 8: Piper/Hart, Flair/Savage

WM X: Bret/Owen DVD quality.

That's probably one of the best WWE comparisons I've ever read. And it isn't just true for Bret's situation either.

and the Ultimate Wrestlemania Collection, which is a box set of all 21 WM's.  The set will be priced at around $300, but it can be bought in sets of five.

Ooh, finally all 21 WrestleManias on DVD (and it better be DVD!)? Fucking sweet.

Question... will they have to blur ALL the scratch WWF logos from WM 14 through 18? I'm sure they will... but that'll suck. Won't it also be the first time a full attitude-era show will be released after the switch to WWE?

Yes and yes.

Finally, a 3 disc Bret Hart collection. I just hope they don't do a hatchet job on the guy like they seem to planning with Warrior.

From UW's forum

"Hi everyone,

I know there is a great deal of BS and lies on the

internet, so I understand if you do not believe me

during this post, but I will go ahead anyway. I do not

want to disclose my name, as I know the company

monitors the internet quite tight, but I have been

working as an intern at the production department of

Titan Television (WWE's studios). I have been involved

in the making of several DVD projects these past few

months, one of which was the forthcoming Ultimate

Warrior 2 disc set.

While I can't give out too many specifics on the set,

I can tell you a few things that may upset you as

Warrior fans, and would like your feedback which I

will happily return to my supervisor, Mr. Chambers.

First off, Vince McMahon and Warrior have actually

spoke several times regarding this DVD. Those of you

who have purchased WWE 'Legends' DVDs will know how

they work...there is a documentary on the wrestler,

and fellow superstars and office staff will talk about

that wrestler - memories, favorite moments, opinions,

backstage stories, etc. We recently released a DVD on

the Road Warriors, which featured Animal tracing the

roots of the characters and giving insights into their

careers as superstars, wrestlers, and men.

Vince wanted Warrior to do the same, and called him at

home. Warrior apparently has his own documentary film

coming soon and said to Vince he would like to do a

deal where they could have flyers inside each DVD to

help advertise the other one. Mr. McMahon said he

didn't want to do this, as it wouldn't be a 50-50

beneficial deal(it would benefit Warrior much more

than WWE), and that the shareholders wouldn't like

advertising with a former talent.

Warrior was worried about being seen as a hypocrite if

he appeared on the DVD, and when Vince refused

advertising and a smaller fee than what Warrior

wanted, Warrior refused steadfast to participate in

it. Negotiations ended there on the phone, and I was

told by my supervisor that Vince told Warrior "Well

then, we'll see what happens."

I can reveal to you that this DVD is not going to be

one that fans will want to see. Many talents have

appeared on this disc to talk about Warrior - Bobby

Heenan, Pat Patterson, Paul London, HHH, JR, John

Cena, Batista, Hogan, Eddie, Benoit and others - and

every single one of them has painted him a negative

light. All the comments make fun of Warrior, and talk

about what an idiot, flash in the pan, and lucky guy

he was.

There are also two bonus features on disc 2. The first

is "Ultimate Impressions" in which current WWE

superstars do their best impersonation of Warrior. It

is sad to say the least - Benoit foams at the mouth

and yells at the top of his voice...HHH messes his

hair all up and pretends to be Warrior shaking the

ropes, and Batista ties some bootlaces around his arms

and talks to his hands. More insulting, there is a

"Warrior Calamaties" montage of times when Warrior has

made mistakes - slipping over, bloopers during

interviews, botched moves, etc.

Basically, the whole thing is made to have the message

that Warrior was intense and powerful, but also a bit

of an idiot. He is painted in the same light as Doink,

Repo Man and Duke Droese, rather than as a legend next

to Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Andre. Sad - because

the majority of people who would buy this would be UW

fans from the 80s...and once they know that this is a

giant farce, they will boycott it and the DVD will

fail to sell.

Good business sense Mr McMahon!! It looks like another

desperate attempt to bury UW."

I NEED THIS DVD NOW!

WM 14 didn't use the scracth logo, maybe only on the mics, but they were still using the classic logo on the corners, entrance way, etc.

A Jake Roberts DVD? What would actually be on it?

I know people on this board love Jake's character and his interviews...but I can't honestly remember one good match in the guy's career. People talk about what a great ring technician the guy was, but all I remember are slow, plodding matches against guys like Ted Dibiase, Rick Martel, etc. Maybe they'll throw in some of his NWA stuff, since I guess he was one of those guys like JYD or Jim Duggan where they were good workers before they came to the WWF and slowed down to a snail's pace.

Oh, and I really hope the Bret Hart DVD isn't called "Screwed", since his career was a heck of a lot more than the Montreal incident.

Pat Patterson can't be on the Warrior DVD since he quit the company, so I bet that information is fake. Who risks their job at WWE (or anywhere) to report to ULTIMATE WARRIOR FANS that their hero may be getting a screwy DVD?

Didnt Pat retire on good terms with the company?

They used the scratch logo for scene transitions. Very big scratch logo too, IIRC.

I'll be getting the WM sets for 1-5, 6-10, and 11-15. I already have DVDs for 16 thru 21, and my VHS copies for all the other Manias (most of them original Coliseum Video releases, mind you) will be put in a safe as collector's items.

Frankly, I wasn't a big Jake Roberts fan so I don't see the appeal for a DVD release, let alone a 3-disc set as the price seems to suggest. No truly memorable matches come to mind so I think I'll skip this one.

The Warrior DVD I'm still on the fence. I need to see a chapter/match listing to make up my mind, and I figure it'll come soon since it's released in September.

The Bret Hart set is a must-have for sure. I don't think it'll be entirely focused on the Montreal thing, even if the title is "Screwed", which was reported way back in January IIRC. As long as it has matches like WMX, WMXIII, his first Title win, maybe his first PPV Title defense and stuff like that I'll be happy.

Fuck the Christmas list...its now a birthday list, since my B-day is on Nov. 17th.

1. Jake Roberts DVD

2. Bret Hart DVD.

The reason I don't care much about the Warrior dvd is because, well because, the matches will beasically be all the same, a lot of squshes most likely. Unless they put on some of the matches he put had with Henning, Rude, and Hogan. I Don't even know how the hell the WWE can even make it a 3 disc (its 3 right?) dvd for the Warrior. I mean did he even have that many good matches? Hell decent matches? Or are they going to cram it full of extras? I just don't see any real reason to pick up the dvd, I can't see anything to learn from it.

All I want is either on the Warrior or Jake DVDs, the entire storyline between those two that went nowhere. Hell, I'd even want the Papa Shango storyline fully covered on the Warrior one.

I have a feeling that WWE will be churning out these types of dvd's faster now.

It's a easy profit.

Nearly everyone with a long enough career will have one.

except Jericho.

I hope WWE does not flood the market with videos of wrestlers that do not deserve the ultimate collection treatment.

Joking, I know...

WWE knows Jericho's got tons of fans, but since he's not retired yet, they're not bothering. Although they gave him a VHS back around 2000, which I think was just a fluff piece/biography. They might re-release it on DVD and toss a few extras on it.

I would KILL KILL KILL for WWE to somehow acquire his interview and "match" from the Heroes of Wrestling show and include it on the DVD in some shape or form.

I'm still waiting for Kurt Angle's "It's True It's True".

Dude, that video sucked.

As for Jericho, why don't they put out a DVD for him. The guy has had a decent length career and there is a ton of freat footage from WCW in 1998 that I'd love to see on DVD.

Yeah, but since WWE never really brings up his WCW career, I wonder if they want people to remember it. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but I wonder if they worry people would remember how great and entertaining Jericho used to be, and then wonder why WWE doesn't do more with the guy now.

I'm not liking the name of the Bre Hart DVD.  If its 3 discs, it's likely to cover his whole career but the focus shouldn't be on Montreal.

Neither am I. It blows. Big Time.

For fucks sake, it should be called - Bret Hart: The Hits.

Because "Screwed" is firmly entrenched in the lexicon of Bret Hart's name.

It's true.  Remember Bret was working with Vince to set this dvd up, im assuming Bret was ok with the name.  I just hope Bret didn't get his way and they included the iron man with shawn in there.

Actually, they WERE working together on the DVD. Bret and Shane McMahon got in a fight over something about a year ago and the decision was made to remove him from the project. So, unless something has happened since then, Bret has nothing to do with this DVD.

Shane just goes to the top of my hate list. Fuck you you stinking little bastard.

If the DVD was about Bret's full career, then why would it have "Screwed" in the title?

Maybe the WWE are big fans of the Norm McDonald Dave Chappele comedy of the same name.
