Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

Cool collection of photos from the Obama campaign. I like the one especially where he does three pull-ups after his staffers did two.

In other news, I unpinned the thread in hopes that maybe we can move to start a new thread for the stretch run of the election, maybe even one for the big day itself. This thread has to die a peaceful death sometime soon.

We've been in the stretch run of the election for the past month. There's 12 days to go, let the thread live on. There's nothing wrong with mega-threads.

I never saw the point of pinning this thread anyway.

Im almost to the point where I see the Polls are tightening and McCain is making a comeback and I think..do we REALLY want the inevitable riots that will result from the Republicans stealing the election once again?

You're almost to the point where you see the polls tightening. Look, I'm not calling this election for Obama until McCain's concession speech, and vice versa, but it's going to be really, really hard to erase the domination over the electoral map that Obama is garnishing. I just don't think it's possible, but I'm not going for one second going to say that it's a win for Obama.

And I think it would be cool to have large-scale riots.

The polls are tightening? Only in Matt Drudge-land where the only poll that matters is whatever one shows the gap between Obama and McCain as the smallest.

Since 538 hasn't updated today, I'll use RCP's incomplete list:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/20...olls/index.html

There are 35 polls in there, only 5 of which show leads for McCain (and a +5 in Georgia is most definitely not a good result for him). Among the 30 polls where Obama is ahead, the only ones that could be considered either "good" or at least "not bad" for McCain are the following:

+1 National

+4 National

+4 National

+5 National

+5 Florida

And for any McCain supporters wanting to hang their hats on that IBD/TIPP poll that shows Obama at +1, Nate Silver eviscerated that poll today over at 538 by examining the poll's subcategories. Apparently McCain is beating Obama by 50 points among voters aged 19-24 :P .

John Kerry has 6 point lead in Ohio on 10/22/04

But hey, we know how THAT turned out.

CNN is only giving Obama a 7 point lead today in Ohio.

Except this election is not coming down to "who wins Ohio?". It's coming down to "Can McCain sweep 8 states, all of which Obama is leading, some by double digits?".

Well since no Republican has won an election without winning Ohio..

Being in NE Ohio, which is basically filled with "Joe the Plumber" types, I don't see how Obama can win Ohio overall without some of the ACORN registered "voters" voting for him. This area is traditionally Democrat, and while Obama appears to be leading this part of the state, it doesn't appear to be by a wide margin, and there's no way in hell Obama wins the Southern half of the state, which is largely Republican to begin with.

I have no poll for that, that's from simple observation and from talking to people who plan to vote.

I just think its funny that Kerry led Bush almost 4 years ago to the day by 6 points with 6% undecided and he lost and now Obama's got a 7 point lead on McCain with 7% undecided..gee

Marvin, that is one poll. What was the sample size? Confidence interval? Margin of error? What was the polling average for Ohio on 10/22/08 (which is what sites like Pollster, 538, & RCP are using). But something tells me you've never taken a stats class.

If presidential poll numbers were the only barometer, then Marvin's argument would have merit, but you also have to look at other stuff, such as which candidate to voters think would do a better job on the economy, favorable/unfavorable ratings, and trends over the last 6 months. 4 years ago, Bush had most of those things in his favor, and ran a more disciplined campaign than Kerry did. McCain not nearly in as a good a shape.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Nancy Pfotenhauer. Could you imagine having the job of trying to public defend the schizophrenic statements being made by McCain and Palin? Let's watch!

So she basically made the same defense of Palin's "role of the VP" nonsense that I did (after watching the video a few more times, I was pretty obviously wrong). When THAT didn't work, she tried to change the subject to Joe Biden, then tried to make it sound like Palin was just saying that Palin would be making policy recommendations to the senators of the same party.

This is too good to pass up. I guess a short temper runs in the McCain family...

Alexandria (web|news) - A 911 tape, reportedly of Sen. John McCain (web|news|bio) 's brother Joe, could prove controversial for the McCain camp since the call was not for an emergency, but rather to complain about being stuck in traffic.

The call came into Alexandria's 911 system on October 21.

Operator: 911 state your emergency

Caller: It's not an emergency, but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?

Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)

Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)

The complaint call about traffic on the Wilson Bridge forced the 911 dispatcher to call back. The voice mail on the other end, appears to belong to Joe McCain, brother of presidential candidate, John McCain.

"Hi this is Joe McCain. I can't take this message now because I'm involved in a very (inaudible) important political project. I hope on November 4th we have elected John."

"I think it's horrible. I can't believe somebody would tie up valuable resources to complain about traffic," said District resident Nancy Case.

"It seems stupid, my name can be tagged to this, why would I hose my brother, why would I do it," asked District resident Rob Case.

But that wasn't all. McCain apparently called 911 again to complain about the message the operator just left him, warning him such use of 911 is criminal.

Caller: Somebody gave me this riot act about the violation of police.

Operator: Did you just call 911 in reference to this?

Caller: Yeah.

Operator: 911 is to be used for emergencies only not just because you're sitting in traffic.

"The future president, possible president whatever, possible president, can't control what someone does, but this gentleman should be fined or something should happen to him," said tourist Suzanna Rey.

The McCain campaign has not commented on the issue, although it's said the campaign did listen to the call. ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 crews tried to reach Joe McCain, but were unable to.

So, a woman was attacked oustide of an ATM. The guy saw her McCain bumper sticker, and cut a B into her face. The B stands for Zorro H. Christ. This is her blog: http://sarahsarmy.blogspot.com/

She's reposting all that stupid Berg shit which is tin hattery at its best, and features this post as well, entitled "Obama, Evil Personified":

It is crystal clear that Obama is not who he says he is. He is in fact, a snake-oil salesman, a highly trained con man, a fraudulent, puppet candidate whose strings will be pulled by the socialists among us. What you see is not what you will get and the warriors of socialism will spill out of the belly of his Trojan Horse, once the gates to “Troy” have been breached. Should Obama prevail, abject socialism will have finally conquered America and we predict that only a bloody revolution will return her to the vision of her Founding Fathers, if ever.

This extended clip, I think, gives a lot of weight to the theory that Palin's just reciting what others have told her.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/27347418#27347418

I don't get how you can calling in a bomb threats and blowing up statues, and empty offices and bathrooms with "trying to destroy our capitol and our Pentagon."

I don't get how you can say you're going to work for all of the people, but describe all people as being "hard-working, middle class Americans".

I don't get how you can claim Bill Ayers's association with Obama is a legitimate issue, and then claim the real issue is whether or not he's been "forthcoming" about the relationship.

I don't get how you can say elitism isn't geography based, then say "but I know where they live...our nation's capitol and New York City".

I don't get how you can claim the Weathermen were trying to kill Americans and destroy America, when they warned people in advanced to get out of the places where the bombs were going to go off.

I don't get how this campaign can claim Palin's ready to be president, when she can't even sit through an interview with NBC News without insisting McCain go on with her.

How can anyone with any REAL knowledge of these things actually believe all of these contradictory ideas?

I'm aware of that, but I can't bring myself to believe she's really in the positions she's in, because for someone in her position to be so misinformed or underinformed is sickening. The VP shouldn't be a walking talking point in human form.

And for McCain?

Anyone ever seen the 2006 documentary Why We Fight? McCain was interviewed in it, and THAT John McCain is a thoughtful, intelligent man with not just knowledge of issues, but well-thought out (though I don't always agree) ideas and who can think for himself. He is SO MUCH BETTER than this albatross of a VP candidate that's been tied around his neck by his campaign advisors, it makes me sick.
