Guest JMA Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Batman Begins producer Charles Roven told SCI FI Wire that the cast is signed on for a sequel, the script is in the works, new cast members are being discussed and the only delay is an OK by director Christopher Nolan. "We all hope there is going to be another one," Roven said in an interview for the upcoming Terry Gilliam film The Brothers Grimm, which he also produced. "We're waiting for Chris Nolan to declare himself. We will do it after he does that." Batman Begins star Christian Bale has signed on to reprise the role of the seething and dark Bruce Wayne/Batman, as have Michael Caine as the butler Alfred, Katie Holmes as the love interest Rachel Dawes and Gary Oldman as police detective Jim Gordon, Roven confirmed. But Roven added that it's too early to talk about new cast members. He discounted rumors that The Daily Show's Steve Carrell is up for the role of the Joker. Roven is working with Carrell on the big-screen version of the TV spy comedy series Get Smart and said it's way too early to talk about new cast members for the as-yet-untitled next Batman film. Roven said that it would be possible to proceed with another Batman movie without Nolan, but added that he would prefer Nolan to do another one. "The point is that the studio owns the franchise, and they can do without any of us," Roven said. "But it was a spectacular experience with Chris [Nolan], and he kept everyone involved and was very collaborative. So we hope it will happen again with him." Credit: Sci Fi Wire This sounds like good news to me. Oh, and Batman Begins passed the 200 million dollar mark on Thursday. As of now, it's the third highest grossing film of the year--behind Revenge of the Sith and War of the Worlds.
Hank Kingsley Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Wait, I thought the studio didn't want Katie Holmes back.
Guest JMA Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Wait, I thought the studio didn't want Katie Holmes back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apparently, they changed their minds. I actually think that Rachel Dawes (her character) will end up marrying Harvey Dent.
Ravenbomb Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 ok, I like Carell and everything, but HIM as The Joker?!
Corey_Lazarus Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Yeah. Though I wonder who else they'd have in mind...probably Owen Wilson, since he's in everything, but he'd be TOO charming as The Joker. You'd need somebody that can make you laugh, but make you feel dirty all over for laughing at all. Soooo...who? I'd say maybe give the role to Mark Hamill, since he did a great job at the voice acting, but I'm not sure he'd able to pull it off physically (the gestures, mannerisms, etc.). Maybe he could... And Bale back means that his star is back on the rise after Reign of Fire hurt it. He's just so damn good in everything he's in that it's about time he gets the recognition he deserves. Though I wasn't too fond of him portraying Bruce Wayne in a somewhat similar vein as Patrick Bateman (or maybe it's just his American accent and the suits that got me thinking Bateman).
Lil' Bitch Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Nobody will live up to Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker, IMO.
Guest JMA Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Nobody will live up to Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker, IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I always preferred Hamill's Joker, myself. That being said, I don't think he should play the part of the Joker in the sequel. I'd like to see either Tim Roth or Adrien Brody get the role.
SuperJerk Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 The Daily Show's Steve Carrell is up for the role of the Joker. I hate to typecast, but I can't see Carrell as anything other than playing a news broadcaster. Joker's a psychopath. That takes range.
cabbageboy Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I can't stand Adrien Brody, though sadly he actually looks the most like The Joker. That said, Tim Roth would be awesome. Hell, his evil bastard in Rob Roy is the greatest villain I've ever seen. He made me want to beat his ass if I ever saw him on the street.
the max Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Steve Carell is very funny, but not the deranged kind of funny that the Joker needs to be. He's more funny in a silly kind of way. Tim Roth would probably be the best fit for it.
SuperJerk Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I could see Adrien Brody or Tim Roth as the Joker, although I'd prefer Roth since I'm more familiar with his work. Crispin Glover would be good (and really looks the part), but not as good as Roth.
Sass Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Steve Carell? I take shits bigger than him. The Joker is supposed to be taller than Batman and super skinny. I like Carell but the studio could do better on a Joker choice. I hope Crispin Glover gets the role.
The Robfather Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I rather Katie return than magically disappear. I hate it when movies do that.
Ravenbomb Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I REALLY would like to see Nick Stahl cast as Joker, or maybe Brad Renfro
bobobrazil1984 Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I'll tell ya who I like as the Joker. A guy named Christopher Ecclestein. I'll post some manips others at superherohype made of this guy.
Vampiro69 Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 With Holmes maybe they will have her get killed by the Joker. By doing this you can have Harvey Dent and Batman hunting him down and Dent's split personality becoming more obvious throughtout the movie. However, that is pure spleculation on my part.
ChrisMWaters Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 JIM CAREY FOR THE JOKER! (hides from that) Anyway, I was just kidding for that. ...if Hamill could get the mannerisms down, I wouldn't mind seeing him as the Joker. Otherwise...hmm...I'll have to think on this one.
spiny norman Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 They're doing a film remake of Get Smart!? Oh dear.
ChrisMWaters Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 They're doing a film remake of Get Smart!? Oh dear. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let's just hope it's not as bad as that second Get Smart series that Fox tried to make a while back.
LivingLegendGaryColeman Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 They're doing a film remake of Get Smart!? Oh dear. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let's just hope it's not as bad as that second Get Smart series that Fox tried to make a while back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This one already has an advantage if they keep Andy Dick away
bobobrazil1984 Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I'll tell ya who I like as the Joker. A guy named Christopher Ecclestein. I'll post some manips others at superherohype made of this guy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok here's the dude I'm talking about, but I still have to see him act, i've only seen him in bits and pieces, nothing substantial. i hear he's one of those classically trained guys though. and take this pic... and add white color and a few slight makeup ticks, and ya got (Some dude at superherohype did this.): http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b199/pieeye/jkedit2.jpg
caboose Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Yeah, he was Dr. Who in the latest series. He quit after one series. Interesting choice.
Ravenbomb Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 he was in 28 Days Later opposite Cillian Murphey
Youth N Asia Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Nick Stahl sounds like a good Joker. He was great in Sin City and I think he could pull off the part if they want to go young.
Ravenbomb Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 even if they don't want to go young, they can make him look older
Guest JMA Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I'm guessing that the Scarecrow will be back in the sequel and be taken down early by Batman (like Count Dooku in Episode III).
Guest El Satanico Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I'll tell ya who I like as the Joker. A guy named Christopher Ecclestein He definately has the look I'd like Joker to have.
CBright7831 Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Wait, I thought the studio didn't want Katie Holmes back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apparently, they changed their minds. I actually think that Rachel Dawes (her character) will end up marrying Harvey Dent. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And the obvious happening... If you're going have The Joker be Batman's arch nemesis, he has to do something terrible, thus making their battle personal. And what better way to do it than fucking up the girl whom you loved?
Dangerous A Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 With Holmes maybe they will have her get killed by the Joker.
