- Bret Hart has said that he decided to do the WWE DVD to preserve his legacy. As hinted by Ultimate Warrior in previously reported news, the thinking was that if Hart didn't do it, WWE would use the DVD to trash Hart. Lawler, Hogan, Michaels and possibly others had recorded interviews that said negative things about Hart. Benoit was one of the only interviewees that didn't say one negative thing about Hart. As part of his deal, Hart has veto power over DVD content, and will also help choose matches, and make sure the emphasis isn't on Montreal and Owen's death, although they'll be addressed. Possible matches, clips and angles that are being considered (the list will be finalized soon) are:

- Bret has no further plans to work with WWE after the DVD, although a Hall of Fame induction is possible. TNA had contacted Bret and Neidhart, thinking a Hart Foundation reunion would be good for the Spike TV debut.

 

- DVD interview highlights included Vince saying he regretted what happened, but not taking full blame, talking about the time and circumstances being involved. Also, the WWE production people didn't want Hart using insider wrestling terminology or calling the company WWF due to legal reasons and to protect the business.

This isn't the ironman, is it?

 

The list sounds really good. I hope they all can make it. It has almost all of his great matches plus a lot of older unknowns to give us something new to see. The only thing missing from it being perfect is Bret vs Austin from Survivor Series 96 and Bret vs Shawn from Survivor Series 92.

I don't know about adding the WM9 Yoko match. I'd rather have his match against Nash at the 95 Survivor Series. And I'd really like the Bret/Owen SS94 match in DVD quality since my tape is wearing out.

My thoughts on these matches.

 

-- Hart vs. Tiger Mask in New Japan from 1982

I remember seeing a hart/tm match and not liking it too much.Still something rare that will be a nice change of pace from the ppv matches.

 

-- Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith at Wembley Stadium in 1992

Obvious choice.This will make the final cut.

 

-- Hart vs. Austin at Wrestlemania 1997

My favorite match.Too bad the survivor series match isn't included but you can't have everything.

 

-- Hart vs. Michaels at Wrestlemania 1996

I knew this would be on there.Good match but not one of his best.Bret,however, does think its one of his best.I don't know why.

Another no brainer.Kotr was better but more people remember this match.

This was obviously going to be on the dvd.

I don't know why they would want this on here but after the list above,it wouldn't matter if they had a match vs brooklyn brawler at this point.

 

Overall-I might sleep outside walmart or bestbuy the night before this is released.

 

A few I wish would have made it onto dvd but who cares.Much like ric flair,Bret has too many good matches to fit on a dvd.Even a 3 disc set.If these matches are confirmed it will be the best dvd they release.

They mainly put the Bret/Goldberg on there since it was his last notable match for all intents and purposes. The match that ended his career.

 

Dude, I was AT that Raw in 95 for the Hakushi match and that one rocks the friggin universe. Hakushi busts out a standing moonsault from IN the ring to the floor if I recall.

That was meant to be Hakushi's last match with the WWF, but he was so impressive that they kept him around.

Last I heard (which was reading the WON issue IP copied this from) is WWE is having a tough time getting the rights from NJPW to use a Bret/Tiger Mask match.

Bret vs. Shawn at Survivor Series 92 is a 4 1/2 star match -- that should be on there.

 

Bret vs. Nash at SS 95 should also be on there. Another 4 1/4 match.

 

What about Bret's KOTR 93 run?

 

Bret/Owen vs. Steiners is a 4 3/4 star match, whereas the Road Warriors match prettty much sucks.

 

Hart vs. Flair at Souled Out 98 was really good...

 

Hart vs. Benoit shouldn't be on the DVD, nor should the Iron Man Match against Shawn -- that's the highlight of Shawn's career, not Bret's!

 

Hart Foundation vs. Strike Force and Hart Foundation vs. Brainbusters were awesome matches.

 

All Yokozuna matches should be stricken from the DVD.

 

Of course, Hart vs. Austin at SS 96 and the preceding storyline of Austin calling the Hitman, "Shitman" should be on there.

** It's not and it shouldn't. It's good but not essential Bret stuff, IMO.

 

Bret vs. Nash at SS 95 should also be on there. Another 4 1/4 match.

 

** This is pretty essential. Rated a little high I think, but AWESOME match, with Bret stopping the year-long title reign. Needs to be there. But would Bret want a NASH match on? Possibly to show his carrying skills?

Vs. Razor is pretty damn good but forgettable and not important.

Vs. Perfect is *THE BEST* Hennig/Hart match, better than their 89 and 91 clashes anyways. SHOULD BE ON THERE.

Vs. Bigelow is better than it should've been but an overbooked mess. I'd leave it off and just show maybe the coronation.

 

Bret/Owen vs. Steiners is a 4 3/4 star match, whereas the Road Warriors match prettty much sucks.

 

***No it's not but it's really good. Your throw stars around like a crazed ninja. Neither are essential Bret. HORRIBLE cop-out ending to Steiners/Hart, but solid match.

Okay what, Yokozuna has had better matches than RVD? I guess 10 minute long rest holds and nerve holds do it for you. Yoko fucking sucked, I haven't seen a match with him that would hardly escape DUD.

 

I'm pretty sure those star ratings were just from various Keith rants.

 

I wouldn't put the Strike Force match on there since the Harts job pretty convincingly. It was pretty good though, nice ***ish type match.

Take the RVD ranting somewhere else. It's always an irrlevant debate and certaintly doesn't belong here in a dicussion about Bret Hart's potential match set up for his dvd.

 

The Yokozuna match @ WMX is hugely significant in more ways then just one.

 

First of all, It's Bret's second title win, fresh off the heels of his classic match with Owen just hours before this.

 

It was Vince McMahon's "I'm sorry" to Bret, for not believing in Bret the first time. The finish of the match is historic with the faces parading Bret around with the dramatic conclusion of Owen's look of betrayal and crushed spirit standing alone in Bret's shadow.

 

It's a match with historical value and a dramatic conclusion that was KEY to extending the brilliant brother vs brother angle.

 

Besides, the match is very short (just over 8 minutes) so it won't take time up.

 

That match has more importance and means to be on the dvd then alot of matches mentioned.

 

They can't cram every single ***1/2 star match Bret ever had, or else it would be a six disc collection.

 

Sometimes historical value is required over just another good Bret match.

As I have said,Bret has had too many good matches to fit on 1 dvd set.There are a few things that could be changed but they are minor complaints at best.This looks like an awesome dvd set that I'm sure everyone will buy.

 

I think matches vs dibiase,savage,steamboat,kid,hakushi make this more appealing.I was just hoping they would pull out a 30 minute harts/buldogs match that has never been shown.

I've never seen the cage match but my favorite between the two was before Survivor Series 93 on USA. Owen cost Bret the match which was the seed planted for his heel turn at the Rumble.

Although probably insignificant in the grand scheme of Hart's career, his match against Jean Pierre Lafeyette for the rights to his leather jacket was good stuff, as is his entire feud with Jerry Lawler, though if I had to select a match from that feud, it would be the Hart vs. Doink saga that took place at SummerSlam 93.

We are here realizing that you can't properly give Bret the true coverage he deserves because he has such a large quanity of quality to choose from.

 

With Benoit, Eddy, Foley, RVD, they basically got everything that was needed to represent their careers and in the case of Benoit and Eddy, only a handful of matches were left off that should have been there.

 

Ric Flair's DVD left so much unused that I'm begging for Volume 2.

 

I would be willing to pay an extra $30 bucks for three additional discs to Bret's career.

What they should do is have a four-to-six disk set, and then put together a Hart Foundation/Austin set on its own. That way you get many of the matches on the former set, and they can fit in more of the rarities. And on the latter, you get the matches of 1997, even more RAW stuff, and alot of the great promos and angles of the time (and perhaps a proper tribute to the fallen members of that feud). That's win-win, I would think.

Why woudl they put the wm 9 match vs yoko on there? I mean its better than the wm 10 one but Bret jobs and Hogan gets to steal his spotlight.

And his 1993 CLASSIC v. Mr. Perfect as well. I liked it better than 1991.

I've seen the match from the early 80s on a Tiger Mask DVD I bought from Japan. It wasn't that great, but not bad either.

 

The other match against a Tiger Mask must be referring to his match with TM II-Mitsuharu Misawa from 1990 TD show. I believe they would have to negotiate with NTV, who own All Japan's footage pre-split.
