I was working at HP, so I guess we had to see it coming. And here is the kicker. To get my severence, I have to keep working here until they tell me its my last day. If I leave early, I lose it. So basically, I have to keep going to work at a job that will lay me off any day within the next month for a severence.

Man...I am so gonna steal stuff.

EDIT: oh one more question...you've been canned at various points 3 years in a row now?  Damn that's a long resume...

Actually I think I missed a year. It hits every year and a half I think.

And everytime the place gets shut down. I am cursed.

Sorry to hear about the layoff man. My company did the same thing to the people that got laid off this past Spring (April 1 was their first day of being unemployed ... some April Fool's Joke, eh?) ... they gave them 3 months notice that the office was closing, but if they left before the 3 months were up they got nothing. (good day, sir. I SAID GOOD DAY SIR!)

To add cash insult to unemployment injury, the woman that trained me to do what she did came back after her commission pay for some events that she'd started and I finished ... and it was deemed that I did more than 50% of the work so I was given the commission checks.

Sorry to hear. I know how it is to get laid off. Happened to me a couple of times.

LIVING THE STEREOTYPE~!

Man, if you can find a way to get all your stuff out without them catching you then go for it. And get the computer and your bosses kidneys. I know some people who might take them off your hands.

And sorry dude, majorly sucks.

Any clue what the fuck you are going to do now?

Maybe my next HP computer will be cheaper now.

So it'll be business as normal for you?

My old lady had the same thing happen to her in regards to severence. She had to train the person that was going to do her job for about 6-9 months. I guess the best thing to do would be to look for work and if you find another job before your severence is up to leave. It sucks, but it's life. Any idea when your last day will be?

Look on the bright side, you'll get to post here more often...

This happened to me in July. I was 3 months into the job when a CEO transition happened, and she chopped the budget anywhere she could.

Ripper, you should consider relocating to Costa Rica, it is BEAUTIFUL, and it's becoming a popular spot for Americans to retire. (I know you won't, I just thought I'd add my 2 colones).

This crap always happens right when my savings get blown too. A couple of months ago, some error caused my insurance to be cancelled, and I didn't notice the extra 100 bucks on my paycheck, because seriously...it was a 100 bucks. So basically I had to go to the hospital, get a shit load of catscans and shit done and it ended up taking 13,000 dollars, which was the bulk of my savings. Yes, I know 13k is sad for savings, but in the 2nd annual Ripper got Laid off thread from a year and a half ago, I was out of work a lot longer and that killed alot of savings then (plus that paying for my Nephew to go to japan, my mother hit a deer so had to get her car fixed, and other stuff)

Hopefully I bounce back a little quicker this time. I might actually have to go the unemployment route if it takes longer than a month this time.

I don't know about that. I'd say there's a lot of people who don't even have 10% of that amount in savings.

I base this assumption on some of the sob stories I hear from coworkers and the like when "unexpected" expenses pop up and they have no money to pay for it, no matter how small the expense is...

Anyway, good luck with the job hunting Ripper.

Yeah, I'm not rich either. At the moment, I've only got about $1000 just lying around (and I'm a cheap bastard who doesn't spend anything I don't have to). The fact that Ripper had 13k stashed away at one point is very impressive, and WAY more than most people ever have (including me).

I guess I'm just blown away by the fact that so many people have $0 in the bank. There was a lady at work last week who blew out a tire and claimed she didn't have the $75 it was going to cost to get a new one. That was totally amazing to me; how hard is it to come up with $75?

I think like this:

When I was working in the mall making 8-9 bucks a hour, I paid my bills, bought shit and still had some money to fun around with. So even though I make alot more money than that now, I can still live off the income so save the extra.

Goddamn medical bills make me happy I thought like that.

There could be several factors here:

-she has bills you don't have.

-she has kids, not sure if you do or not.

-she's irresponsible with her money.

-she lives paycheck to paycheck, which many Americans do.

I make great money, but I'd be lying if I said I never had any tight times...I'd be lying if I said those tight times didn't happen more than they should...I also have a house payment, a child, two car payments and the gas that goes into those two cars to deal with...shit gets tight from time to time, that's life...there's been times where I don't have $75 TODAY but I will within the next couple of days...

Just to update on the bullshit here. I was supposed to get a raise on Aug. 1st. As of today, the raise hasn't been displayed on anyones paycheck.

If they put the backpay on the severene pay check, I really get screwed because as some of you probably know, as a proper sendoff after getting your job terminated, the good ol US government takes 40+ percent out of serverence pay checks, basically double taxing when you need your money most.

U-S-A! U-S-A!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Ripper, I have to quit both jobs I have now (one of which I haven't even started yet, and was supposed to start training for next week) so I can get one big full-time one (which I'd prolly be making about the same money from, if not then prolly a little less) just so I can have health insurance.
