Guest Chasing Dogma Report post Posted September 25, 2005 I've kind of found a new interest that I find I'm getting more and more into - Asian cinema. Of course, I don’t actually know where to start. The Recent things I’ve seen, Pretty much intrigue me, and I’d like to see more. Two that come to mind that I've enjoyed to no end are Ringu and Batoru Rowaiaru, and now I'm looking to push the boat out and watch films on a similar wavelength to these. Do you guys have any recommendations? I'm up for anime as well, but try to keep it film. Thanks
devo 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2005 Staying with the horror theme, I'd reccomend the Japanese film Audition. Without going into details, the final thirty minutes are the creepiest, most disturbing thirty minutes I've ever seen on film.

Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2005 "The Bleep Brothers". Its not a horror film, more of a comedy/drama movie. Its about two brothers who do raunchy comedy and somehow get on network tv with most of their act being bleeped out which makes them stars. It sure kept me entertained. Vyce 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2005 Audition is EXTREMELY overrated. It's not a bad film, but there are people who will say it's one of the most disturbing films ever made. This couldn't be further from the truth. It's a little bizarre at times, but isn't that messed up at all.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2005 The OTHER Kurosawa, Kiyoshi. He's definately one of the best directors working today. Cure, Bright Future, and Doppleganger are available in the US, but I recommend you track down a copy of Kaïro, his best movie and one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Even after I read some theories on what the ending was about I still thought it was just Miike insanity. Everything up to that is pretty good, though. It's overrated if you know what you're getting into when you watch it. Tell someone it's a great little romantic comedy before they watch it, and it becomes incredible. Half the point is to watch it blindly.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2005 Since Halloween is just a month away, if anyone wants to see some fun Japanese flicks with ZOMBIES~!, might I suggest Versus and Wild Zero. Visitor Q. I didn't think I could be disturbed, like really disturbed by a movie. Then I saw Visitor Q... Yes. This is a genuinely disturbing Miike film. And if I can step back a moment, I'd recommend the original Kurosawa - Akira Kurosawa. He made some of the finest Japanese films ever. Some of the best films of any nation, actually. Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 For Kung Fu: Fist of the White Lotus! -One of the best Kung Fu movies ever even if it isn't the most original. If you've seen Kill Bill, the invincible death touch master Pai Mai is the villian here though Gordon Lui plays the hero this time. Very fun movie. As far as Ju-On goes: -Please stick to the original, direct to video version. It's easily one of the best horror movies from any country. Ju-On: The Grudge and the American Grudge are crap and should be avoided at all costs since they will do nothing but spoil the much better executed scares of the original.
