All year, everyone has been complaining about the revamped Looney Toons show called "The Loonatics" with "Buzz" Bunny, and here's an update:

KWB: 'Loonatics Unleashed' Ratings

The television premiere of the brand new Kids' WB! animated television series Loonatics Unleashed took to the smalls screen last week. Although many animation fans were skeptical of how the program would initially go over with most demographics, after finding the ratings of the premiere episode on Saturday Unleashed, Kids' WB!s Saturday morning programming block, some believe it is safe to say that Loonatics Unleashed has a decent future on television. The series follows descendents of classic Looney Tunes characters in a futuristic environment as they fight crime, save the world, and deliver laughs. Loonatics Unleashed is presently the number one program for its key demographic:

Loonatics Unleashed, the highly anticipated new Looney Tunes-inspired series from Warner Bros. Animation, debuted on the #1 kids' broadcaster, Kids' WB!, on Saturday, September 17, with soaring ratings as the #1 ranked Saturday morning broadcast series in the U.S. among the key demographic of Kids 2-11 (2.7/11).

The high-action adventure series also captured the #1 broadcast spot among Girls 2-11 (2.6/10) and the #2 post in Boys 2-11 (2.9/11), Kids 6-11 (3.3/13), Boys 6-11 (4.1/16), Girls 6-11 (2.6/10), leading the network to a powerhouse launch into the 2005-2006 broadcast season.

I bet Chuck Jones and Mel Blanc spinned in their graves and took that left turn at Albuquerque.

What's with the revamping of all the classics for the modern kids? Flipping through TV the other day, I caught a snippet of a badly drawn, over-tooned, mega cliched, badly voiced, and all around shitastic cartoon that looked vaguely familiar. I stuck around for a moment, nearly dropping my remote when I realized what it is on my screen: an ANIME-esque version of Batman. Seriously...what the shit??

I've no faith whatsoever in American animation anymore.

There is a difference between being poop and the shit.

That will be in someone's sig by the month's end, mark my words.

I'm with that. I see nothing wrong with it.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Whatever you watched as a kid will seem better than it really is for the rest of your life. Truly timeless cartoons that can be enjoyed by any age group are the exception (althought there was a golden age. This surely isn't it. But the 80s weren't either)

I've taped both episodes but haven't watched them yet. That coconut fred show that's on before it ruins my brain but my son insists on watching it so I can't sit there for anymore cartoons when its over.

Would you not say that the original Looney Tunes cartoons were timeless?

The ratings for the first episode of any huge curiousity is generally going to garner high ratings. What remains to be seen is the ratings for subsequent showings.

(see also: XFL)

EDIT: I didn't see that they'd broadcasted episode 2 already. Where're the ratings for that?

I'll admit, as big a mark of 80s Transformers and GI Joe as I am, and even with how utterly shitty these newer versions are, it's hard to go back and look at the old stuff without criticising every little thing...I have all Transformers Season DVDs and I think I've watched them maybe once...

Dude, the modern Duck Dodgers is the shit.

And Loonatics is poop, after finally seeing it.

There is a difference between being poop and the shit.

I'm pretty much in the same camp.

Although DD leans more towards Simpsons humor than classic LT humor. The Samurai Jack parody was killer.

And I also suspect the ratings were high because of the percieved trainwreck factor.

I sure would. That was the real golden age. That doesn't really affect these new versions, though. Sure, maybe they suck (I haven't watched it myself), but a lot of cartoons suck. They're not hurting Looney Tunes any more than Psycho with Vince Vaughn hurt the one with Tony Perkins.

The new teenage mutant ninja turtles is what breaks my heart. What the fuck is wrong with just showing the old ones or continuing the old series with the same art/design.

Because the new series doesn't suck as opposed to the old series which did?

I'm afraid I can't get behind that statement either...

I finally saw "Loonatics" last Saturday. Basically, it's so bad, it makes "Brand Spankin' New Doug" look like gold. Yes, it's that bad.

Is it "Da Boom Crew" bad though?

Or, going by live action TV..."The Mullets" bad?

No, it's worse then those. Basically, (and I might be overreacting-but I doubt it) it may be the worst cartoon ever made. Yes, worse than the New Kids on The Block cartoon.

The new TMNT is so much better than the old version, and when I was a kid, that was my favorite show ever. I still have my figure collection around somewhere.

I like the fact that, while it retains some elements, it's not as typically cartoony as the old version. The darker tone, the art style, the story, the characterization and development, it's largely all from the superior source material of the comics, and considering it's produced under the direction of Mirage Studios, it's closer to 'true' than the original version ever was. It ain't like it's edgier (one of the criticisms of the show) for no reason.

Am I the only one who thought making the Foot Soldiers robots was a cop out? So they could kill people without moral ramifications? When I was 7, I thought that.

Quoted for agreement.

Quoted because I did the same at that age.

Agreed. The new TMNT is a rare example of a remake actually being better (much better, in fact) than the original. I loved the original as a child--as did most people in my age group--but the new version is something I can watch and appreciate now. Being a huge comic fan, I also enjoy the fact that it's closer to the original material.

I enjoyed the latest He-Man series as well. However, the new Transformers series didn't really interest me.
