Just John 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I was thinking the difference in the series was the Astros have no offense and the Cards do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They had huge opportunities blown in the 3rd and 4th innings, that could've at least resulted in a tie at the end of regulation. If I'm not mistaken weren't the Cardinals #1 in the NL in pitching this year? I made my thoughts on the Astros known after the 18 inning affair the other day. I hope the Cardinals sweep. The only problem I saw was that Houston's lead off men kept getting on base. Sooner or later that may hurt you. I don't know if tomorrow is do or die for the Astros yet. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 The excuse being given for the Astros' loss this morning in the media here is Andy Pettitte took a line drive to the knee during batting practice yesterday that was swollen and bruised, thus causing him problems with his delivery last night. I knew there'd be one. Couldn't just be that the Cardinals have some pretty good hitters. Question: why did Garner send up Vizcaino to hit in the 9th last night? Just John 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I too question the Vizcaino move. Does he ever get hits? Why not put Bagwell up there? And I do think tonight's do or die. The Astros have to win one on the road eventually if they want to win the series, and going home in a 2-0 hole never helps. A 1-1 tie gives them road confidence and momentum going back to Houston. Plus, if Oswalt gets tagged with a loss, the Cards are taking the games out of the hands of the big 3, which everyone pretty much agrees is the main thing the Astros have going for them. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I'm ok with Vizcaino hitting in the ninth...if there are less than two outs. With less than two outs, there's a pretty good chance Biggio would have made it to the plate and he would have a decent shot at a home run. But with two outs, your chances are less because not only does Vizcaino have to get on base, but Biggio has to get the big hit as well. One plus for both these series, are the games have been pretty fast for playoff baseball. I'd except reguardless of the matchup, the same will be said for the World Series. There might be only one game like that, but with all these opportunities, they will come through eventually. Tonight they did just enough to win, but still wasted addtional scoring chances. The pitching came through in a big way, and hopefully will continue to stay at a high level. It is not the only aspect of a club, B. the Cardinals' staff is really damned good as well, and C. historically great pitching rotations do not dominate the postseason.
